First trial date set for man charged in death of infant in Dothan

Is the date May 20th?? TIA! :)
“An initial trial date of May 20 has been set for a man charged in the 2018 death of his infant son in Dothan.”

“Although Mathis was indicted in November of 2018, he did not make his first Dothan court appearance until May 10 and it remains uncertain as to when Mathis will actually go to trial. Mathis did not fill out an application for substantial hardship – the process defendants go through to receive appointed attorneys when they cannot afford one – until May 10.”

Thanks for the info Mistivon! I couldn't access the article. Also I have 8/5 as Oakes trial date - I'm going to assume they changed it now to 8/26.

These 2 - I have to look them up every week in the court site. I have them on my look-at-every-day-list. :)

Father charged in infant son's death denied new counsel

A local judge denied new counsel for a father indicted on charges of manslaughter and corpse abuse after the body of his infant son was found in a freezer in a Dothan motel.

Mathis stated in his request there was a conflict of interest with his present counsel, Raynor Clifton, and requested Clifton be removed from his case immediately. He also stated his attorney was providing ineffective assistance in his case.

Trial for mother who left infant son in motel freezer set to begin next week

A trial for Amanda Oakes, who is accused of leaving her dead infant in the freezer of a Dothan motel room, is scheduled to begin next week in Houston County Judge Todd Derrick’s courtroom.
[.....]
Due to infant’s death, the chemical endangerment charge is a Class A felony carrying a penalty of no less than 10 years and up to 99 years in prison.

Mathis’ jury trial is tentatively scheduled for November. His trial was previously set for September, but the defense attorney requested to withdraw due to the attorney-client relationship was impaired to the point the he felt he could not effectively represent his client.

I have in my notes that Mathis' trial is suppose to start on 9/23. Wonder "how" I can info on it being changed to November. The court site I go to only shows a week for court dates, no actual court files that I can see.
If anyone wants to try - they are in Houston County. TIA if you find anything! :)
