I’m honestly only going to be following 13 and their reporters for continuing news on this case. Mary O’Connell is the reporter that was at the scene and her Twitter @marywvtm13 has had good coverage.

the live twitter with the captions was what I followed and they were stellar IMO - reported the cheers, sent a reporter to check with BPD and came back with she's still missing - then concluded with the BPD spokesperson Sgt Williams.

I have been giving the media a lot of praise in this case to this point but today they get an "F" from me!

IMO the police chief REALLY needs to do a press conference and explain this whole thing and any other information/update on the POIs.

I think he needs to go back to T Brown apartments and restart the investigation.

Media source that I mentioned was stationed there and live reporting. They were waiting for confirmation from LE and then got a call from someone in LE confirming she was found. In that case, not the media's fault. IMO

It was just another child at the scene. There were many. I don't think she was ever a "missing" child or anything like that whatsoever.

I think I saw the child that maybe was mistaken for Cupcake. I honestly thought it was her myself except for the fact that she was there with an adult who was first holding her hand and then picked her up, and no fuss was being made. It was strange that they were both standing by the door when LE passed them to go inside.

Yeah, if we think this is disappointing, just imagine what her family is feeling.

This happened in the Jayme Closs case, when false reports began circulating that she had been found alive.

Amazingly, she was found alive later that same day. Let’s just hope lightning strikes twice.

I don’t think they could have anticipated that the sheriff would do something like this.

As soon as the story of her safe recovery began circulating, they put out word that it was false.

That’s why we had a couple reporters consistently and confidently shooting down that rumor.

I agree, they didn't anticipate this happening.

Going forward, hopefully, they will assign a BPD person to baby sit the press.

I did lots of PR, even with Congressional officers. I never left the press alone. Always had several employees assigned to each.. Never trust the press, was my motto.

I have a picture in my head of an LEO seeing a child of about 3 years of age inside the apartment building and saying to the child, “Are you Cupcake?” and the child replying “Yeah” because 1) it’s a toddler talking and/or 2) people sometimes call the child “cupcake” as they do “honey” or “sweetheart”.

you know what? i was thinking that as well - always wondered if there was something tactical in that until we found out otherwise. This was one giant fiasco - her poor family and we still have cupcake missing.

Yeah...it was pretty obvious which child generated the false reports but IMO they never would have had her in camera view just chillin outside if it was really her.

BREAKING: Kamille McKinney not located at Ala. apartment complex after hours-long search
After an hours-long search at a Birmingham apartment complex, police say they did not locate Kamille McKinney, Birmingham Police Sgt. Johnny Williams confirms.

Birmingham police received a tip that the missing 3-year-old girl was located at Marland Apartments in the 2700 block of Jefferson Ave. Authorities spent several hours searching apartments on Wednesday.

WBRC responded to the scene shortly after 10 a.m. Kamille’s father, paternal grandmother and great grandmother were on the scene, as were many residents who live in the area.
