Treated and released so quickly? Sure as hell does not look like a serious suicide attempt to me, more like a cry for attention. JMO.

Thanks for the article link, Colette, a fascinating read. I've lost track of this case (following Casey Anthony mostly) but was wondering if anything was new and found this thread.

Trial delayed for professor in Ala shooting spree

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) -- A trial has been delayed for a biology professor charged with killing three colleagues at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

Madison County Circuit Judge Alan Mann granted a defense motion to delay the start date of March 19 because of a dispute over whether the state would pay expenses for defense expert witnesses.

Another trial date set for September 10, 2012

There still might be another appeal headed to the Alabama Supreme Court on the issue of upfront payments for diagnostic testing of Bishop. Her attorneys are planning a defense of not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. These payments were denied already by an appeals court.

Bishop is charged with killing biology professors Maria Ragland Davis and Adriel Johnson, and Biology Department chair Gopi Podila during a shooting rampage in a faculty meeting. She also is charged with attempting to kill professors Joseph Leahy and Luis Cruz-Vera, and staff assistant Stephanie Monticciolo.

Bishop is seeking a verdict of not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect - an insanity defense - which requires her attorneys to prove she was suffering from a serious mental disease or defect at the time of the shootings and that it prevented her from understanding the nature and wrongfulness of her actions.

Madison County District Attorney Rob Broussard has said he will seek the death penalty for Bishop, a Harvard-educated mother of four.

Bishop, 47, will not be eligible for the death penalty under the terms of the agreement, sources said

Under Alabama law, a capital murder defendant who pleads guilty still must have a jury hear the evidence against them. If Bishop enters the plea, a condensed version of the case -- the facts would no longer be in dispute -- is expected to be held Sept. 24. Her trial was supposed to start Sept. 24.

Amy Bishop, 47, pleaded guilty to one count of capital murder involving two or more people and three counts of attempted murder. She had earlier pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity
Prosecutors were seeking the death penalty against the Harvard-educated Bishop and it was not immediately clear if they would drop the penalty as part of the plea deal. Sentencing will be after arguments are heard at a hearing on Sept. 24.
