I suspect that LE is now done with Sauvie Island, unless they get some really good tips or some hard evidence is found by some member of the public.
It's pretty easy to infer that they haven't found anything to date because they kept coming back. I think Staton was preparing people, in a sense, for no more searches.
For some reason, I've always felt Sauvie Island was a red herring. I have no good basis, no evidence whatsoever, just a feeling that it's one of those leads happens in many cases: seems very probable, seems very promising but is ultimately found to have no real connection to the case.
An example of such a lead would be the search for white vans during the DC sniper case. For awhile, LE was definitely focusing on white vans but it turned out to be just a red herring. The snipers never had anything to do with a white van.

I agree, Grainne. I, too, have felt the so-called *leads and/or tips* regarding SI were possibly red herrings, especially since the MCSO stated recently (after exhaustive multiple searches) they have found no evidence there - only "junk piles & deer bones".
I think one of the issues associated with a high profile case is that although the media attention indeed helps by keeping the victim in the spotlight, the downside is that it also attracts the attention of those who desire to be involved for less than noble intentions (and who may call in false tips that LE then spends time & resources checking out in the interest of leaving no stone unturned in the investigation).
Sheriff Staton alluded to this in one of his recent pressers.
What worries me, though, is the possibility that the guilty person(s) may have anonymously reported a tip regarding SI in an attempt to thwart the investigation and lead LE on a wild goose chase. JMO
I hope that hasn't happened here.
Kyron deserves to be found. Kyron and his loved ones deserves justice.
May it come soon.
This case makes me very sad.
I pray that the truth will prevail, and will be revealed.
