I don't know about anyone else on here, but I'm exhausted!! Hubby and I are going to have a toast to the new arrival. (Not that he cares, he thinks I'm nuts for getting so wrapped up in things!! :floorlaugh:)

My husband texted me the news this morning that Kate was in labor. He knows I get wrapped up in a lot of stuff, but just ignores it pretty much.

ETA: It's a girly girl thing!

Why does the media call her Kate Middleton instead of Kate Windsor?

Yes, it is!

Good night to all my friends here on WS. We did it, we lived through the birth of this beautiful child! Love you all!!

Windsor's not really a surname in the normal sense. The British Army, for example, do not record Prince Harry under that surname, he 's officially "Henry Wales".

Kate Windsor would really be every bit as inaccurate as Kate Middleton - legally, she is the Duchess of Cambridge.

How do you know he's beautiful? He could be as ugly as sin for all we know.

Joke, joke, joke, I'm sure he's lovely.....:truce:

Why not Kate Cambridge? :waitasec:

Who are the Windsors then? :waitasec:

Yipeeeee, a boy! And the 41 gun salute is what I want to see. I will be at work but do you think it will be televised?

I don't think it will be a problem to find it.
I've already seen the announcement outside the hospital replayed about 300 times. lol

If you watch here:

Or turn this on when you get home:

I think you can find it. :seeya:

Royal doctor Marcus Setchell said the baby is "Wonderful baby, beautiful baby".

No doctor is going to lie about that. He MUST be beautiful.
Lady A's baby girl is "incredibly gorgeous." So I guess she wins?

I'd love to hear someone announce their baby by saying "Man, that kid is ugly, hopefully he grows out of it!"
Because really... a lot of newborns are funny looking. :seeya:

Cambridge isn't a surname, its a title. Windsor was an adopted surname because the German sounding thing that's their real surname fell out of favour after some unfortunate events in Europe.

If I understand it right, it's not really a last name. It's like"William OF Windsor" (as in castle Windsor). It's like how all of the English names got started "John the smithy" became "John Smith", John the shoe maker became John Schumacher". This post is strictly in fun, and not based anywhere in reality. :floorlaugh:

Her name is Catherine anyway, she had it legally changed when she got married.

Sorry I misled you, the queens birthday is April 21 and Williams is June 21.

I honestly don't think she's even due yet, and that she's having a great laugh at the speculation and panic caused by the media fabricated due date.

You gave me a good laugh just now as I read this. :floorlaugh:

I did not recall a big deal being made over William being born on the queens birthday; I just took your words to mean that. Bet you if the baby had been yesterday somebody that comes up with the "predictions" would have said that was proof Charles should NOT be King as his birthday is not on the 21. And it must be an omen that William follow Queen Elizabeth and then the new prince. Well, that would be my silly thinking as I think Charles should be skipped over!

Wonder what time the hospital does their discharges? I might have to stay up late!

However its not uncommon. The Duchess of Kent goes by Katherine Kent.

Windsor is a last name. Queen Victoria married Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. So she and her children basically used Saxe-Coburg and Gotha as a surname, including the kings Edward II and George V. Then WWI happened, and the king's being a cousin of Kaiser Wilhelm and having an uber German name was embarrassing at the least. Nothing could be done about the relationship, but at least the name could be changed.

In 1917, there was a radical change, when George V specifically adopted Windsor, not only as the name of the 'House' or dynasty, but also as the surname of his family. The family name was changed as a result of anti-German feeling during the First World War, and the name Windsor was adopted after the Castle of the same name. http://www.royal.gov.uk/thecurrentroyalfamily/theroyalfamilyname/overview.aspx
Same thinking led the Battenbergs to change their last name to Mountbatten.

In fact, apparently Queen Elizabeth's children and direct descendants have the surname of Mountbatten-Windsor, in order to include her husband's surname. (Same link as above.) These royals don't really go around using their surnames much.
Like, "I'm Charles." "Charles who?" "Charles Mountbatten-Windsor." "Who???" "Oh, fine. Prince Charles, if you must know."

A friend of mine is a labor and delivery nurse. I've heard about those rants. :giggle: Then next year they're back again to have another one.

I was so bad the nurses came in asked me to be quiet. I was scaring the other patients.
