“[We] have found some interesting items and clues that we’re going to try to find out more information tomorrow with a different type of search,” Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy Tony Morris said at a press conference.

“I’m not free to say what it is at this point. Just know that it’s something that’s going to change the type of searching we’re doing.”

Update: Active Search and Rescue Operations Suspended
December 28, 2019

After five days of searching for Ms. Allyson Watterson, the search and rescue operations have been suspended. Allyson has not been located at this time. The decision to suspend that phase of the investigation was made after the search and rescue teams spent thousands of search hours covering an area of about 1,600 acres.

Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Allyson’s disappearance. If new information comes to light or new areas to search are identified, the search and rescue teams may be recalled to continue their efforts.

The public is reminded that the entire search area is private property, meaning members of the general public would be trespassing if they attempted to search on their own unless they had specific permission from each property owner.

The Sheriff’s Office wishes to thank the many people and organizations who helped with this search, including the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue, Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue, Mountain Wave Search and Rescue, North Oregon Regional Search and Rescue, Pacific Northwest Search and Rescue, volunteer searchers, Army National Guard, City of North Plains, Hillsboro School District, North Plains Elementary School, Home Depot, Subway, Krispy Kreme, and members of the community for donations of food, supplies, and time.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 503-846-2700.

Update on Search for Missing Person Allyson Watterson
December 27, 2019

The Sheriff’s Office is providing the following update to the on-going search for 20-year-old Allyson Watterson who has been missing since Sunday, December 22.

On that day, a homeowner who lives north of North Plains saw Ms. Watterson just before noon with 21-year-old Benjamin Garland. That remains the last confirmed time Ms. Watterson was seen. Early on Monday, December 23, a different homeowner in the area found Mr. Garland inside the homeowner’s truck. That evening, Mr. Garland’s father called dispatch around 5:30 p.m. to report Ms. Watterson missing, a gap of about 30 hours since she was last seen.

Deputies immediately responded to the area to begin searching for Ms. Watterson. Deputies found a truck which they soon learned was stolen. A short time later, deputies found Mr. Garland nearby and took him into custody. Mr. Garland was arrested for unrelated theft and fraud charges, unrelated warrants, and charges related to the stolen truck. He remains in custody and has also since been charged with violating his probation for prior convictions.

The initial report was that the pair were hiking in the area when Ms. Watterson went missing but investigators do not believe that to be true. Detectives are continuing to investigate where Ms. Watterson and Mr. Garland may have been from December 21 to December 23.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 503-846-2700.

Sheriff’s office suspends active search for Allyson Watterson
[…]

“If I believed she was in an area I could find her, this wouldn’t be getting suspended,” said Search and Rescue commander Tony Morris on Saturday evening. “We’ve just chased everything we had.”

Detective Mark Povolny said that even though they were suspending the immediate search of the area, members of the public should not go out and search those areas for Watterson on their own. All the areas they’ve been searching are private property, he said.

A few days into the search, deputies said they had found items that would lead them to narrow their focus to one particular area. They would not elaborate on the types of items they found.

[…]

Deputies said they are still trying to piece together what happened in the 30-hour gap between when Watterson was last seen and when she was reported missing.

[…]

On Saturday, Watterson’ mother Misty Watterson promised she would not give up.

“Allyson, I’ll never stop searching for you — never,” she said.

No evidence Allyson Watterson disappeared on hike with boyfriend: deputies - The Independent Eagle
[…]

Washington County Sheriff’s Office said there was a 30-hour delay between the time Watterson was last seen and when her boyfriend’s father, Don Garland, reported her missing to authorities.

His father told deputies that he and his son spent the day looking for Watterson to no avail.

“We’ve never been able to verify this narrative,” Deputy Brian van Kleef said in a press release.

Van Kleef said the men were reluctant to file a report because there were multiple outstanding warrants for Benjamin’s arrest. He was arrested Tuesday on charges unrelated to Watterson’s disappearance and pleaded not guilty in Washington County court.

Day 5: Dozens of trained searchers look for missing 20-year-old Allyson Watterson
Deputies had previously asked about anyone who remembered getting a knock on their door late on the night of Dec. 22, around midnight, in the search area but later identified that person and learned the tip was actually related to the last time Allyson was seen on Sunday morning.

Search suspended for missing 20-year-old woman; 5 days reveals no sign of Allyson Watterson
[…]

After being seen with Watterson on Sunday, Benjamin Garland, 21, was next spotted by another homeowner, who found him asleep in the homeowner’s vehicle early Monday morning. After Don Garland called deputies at around 5:30 p.m., police responded and found the son near a vehicle that turned out to be stolen. Benjamin Garland was arrested on multiple charges, none related to Watterson’s disappearance, and is in Washington County jail. Jail records show that he’s been charged with four counts of probation violation and five counts of failure to appear, along with new counts of possession of a stolen vehicle, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, theft, and fraudulent use of a credit card. He pleaded not guilty to the new charges in court this week, according to jail records.

Deputies in the search for missing woman concerned about 30-hour gap
“That means that there is a delay of about 30 hours from the time that we last known Allyson was seen by that homeowner on Sunday around noon until Mr. Garland’s family reported her missing on Monday evening,” Povolny said. “That delay is concerning to us and we’re trying to put together what happened in that intervening time.”

Deputies suspend active search for missing woman Allyson Watterson
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says the decision to suspend the active search Saturday evening was made after search and rescue teams spent thousands of search hours covering an area of about 1,600 acres.

Most of the area crews were searching was private property. They say they’ve exhausted every avenue to try and find Watterson and have used drones, dogs and manpower to go through the area with a fine-tooth comb.

Allyson Watterson’s parents look for answers, hold onto hope
... Allyson’s mother and father were determined and straightforward when they spoke to KOIN 6 News on Monday.

... She said Friday, Dec. 20, was the last time she saw her daughter.

The following Sunday, Allyson told her mom she was with Benjamin Garland and said she’d be home soon.

[…]

... Misty said she has talked to Garland from jail and has been in close contact with his parents, but that’s not what she wants to focus on.

[…]

She and Allyson’s father, Allan, have printed thousands of flyers and said they have been posting them in the surrounding counties, along the Oregon Coast, and even in California along Interstate-5.

[…]

Misty and Allan are pleading with anyone who knows where Allyson is to help bring her home.

“Call it in anonymously, you don’t have to say your name, they don’t have to know who you are,” said Misty.

[…]

I think LE must have evidence that leads them to believe that Allyson didn't just disappear from a 'hike'. The whole story and the late reporting sounds fishy IMO.

Keeping fingers crossed for a miracle.
