Thanks for assuring me there is still interest - & to tezi for the correction. As you can see by my numbers of posts, I'm a newbie to this & we of the over-50 crowd can get easily confused.
I have a feeling this case is like the swimming duck - calm on the surface and churning like mad just beneath it. Much more than meets the eye (but I don't refer to all the LR celebrity connections, just "the case").
Will keep (patiently?) watching & post as I find things. Prayers to all the victims.

You are doing great! I just wanted to clarify the difference between WS and a blog. I'm not too far behind you in the age category!:D LOL

I don't think it will be long before we hear more news. :silenced: I'm sure Vance will run his mouth to someone or another victim will come forward.

BTW, welcome to WS!

actually im glad Vance's trial for the Mariana rape comes first. If they get him there, its going to be harder on him in Anne's trial already being a convicted rapist and burglar.

Agree, and he needs be accountable and charged with EACH immense crime he committed on that poor girl :(

Both cases/trials/victims are of equal importance. At least hopefully since it took two crimes to actually catch Vance, the two trials will make sure he can't do it again to anyone else.

Man accused in TV anchor death appears in 2nd case
By JON GAMBRELL – Mar 19, 2009

MARIANNA, Ark. (AP) — The man accused of killing an Arkansas television anchorwoman has pleaded not guilty in a separate rape and burglary case in his hometown of Marianna.

Curtis Lavelle Vance arrived at the Lee County Courthouse Thursday wearing a bullet-resistant vest and escorted by six police officers. In a brief hearing, Circuit Judge Ann B. Hudson accepted the plea and set trial for July 27.

Little Rock police detectives say a DNA sample from the crime scene of TV anchorwoman Anne Pressley's slaying last year linked Vance to her killing and the Marianna attack.

As he arrived at the courthouse, the 28-year-old only shook his head and said "No" when asked whether he was worried about the DNA evidence

April 21, 2009 - the 1-year anniversary of the rape in Marianna.
May the victims find Peace, and may the rapist rot in jail until his place in Hades is secured forever!

Thank you for the reminder. Its important to remember her as well as Anne. And hopefully her fortitude and testimoney will help nail Vance's coffin closed once and for all

Could this be the judge assigned to the Marianna case? Can someone check the records?
Let's get the Little Rock trial done first & take no chances. (There are good & bad judges everywhere, but what I've read of the Pulaski County one has been positive.) Also, IMO, there should be a stronger case in Little Rock than in Marianna - higher profile, more resources.

I don't know if this Judge Chris Piazza could be assigned to the Marianna Case. But the trial for Anne's case isn't until September, which is too far away. Vance will most likely take a plea deal, which he don't need.

JVM: now he says he wants new legal reps because he learned about the DNA evidence on TV, that his attny didn't inform him. The judge? has ordered a mental evaluation.

Vance was in court Tuesday, the 12th. He is still saying he don't want a mental evaluation, but his attorneys say he need to get one. Also, he said that if they give him the DNA test that everybody will see that he didn't do it. But they also said on Channel 7 that the DNA from him was from hair at the scene, but he's saying it's not his.

Thanks Carla! According to the report, a mental eval was court ordered. Good to get that done and over with and move on.
Vance and lawyers: Oh cry me a river!! It probably was hard and depressing where he grew up. So what? That's life in rural ar. imo.

I had a bad life growing up. My sister and i were sexually abused and assaulted starting at 12 in our own home... My mom was an addict, etc. But I never robbed, raped and beat anyone...

Next hearing is scheduled for Tuesday June 16 in Little Rock; stay tuned for the new episode of "You Bet Your Life", the real life story of Curtis Vance. I look forward to viewing the posted links - this is a great site that stays on task. imo, of course!

Suspect in TV anchor slaying declines mental exam

By JON GAMBRELL

June 12, 2009

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — A man charged with capital murder in the rape and beating death of a television anchorwoman refused to undergo a mental examination but did so in a "rational" way, a psychiatrist says.

Lawyers for Curtis Lavelle Vance sought to have the results of the exam filed under seal in Pulaski County Circuit Court, but the psychiatrist's letters were available to the public Friday.

Stacy M. McBain, a forensic psychiatry fellow at the Arkansas State Hospital, wrote the court that Vance refused to cooperate during the May 27 examination.
