It is sad, I wonder why no more interest in Dawna's case. Anyway, thank you so much for the tweets on the trial, JLS! I'll actually be in Hot Springs next week but sounds like the trial will be over by then.

In the defense opening statements, Janske told jurors that the defense disagreed with the prosecution's portrayal of Duck's and Natzke's relationship and said the case comes down to a third person's DNA that was found on Natzke's bra.

"That to me is a major, major factor," Janske said. "We believe it's the person who actually killed Dawna."

Welp, I guess it's real. I have seen Defense counsel not put on a case in other trials, but I have no clue how this went by so fast.
This morning, the State supposedly had 40 something witnesses left and now the jury has the case? Am I high or something? Lol

This is a MURDER case...not a flipping traffic ticket. Confused.

I'm still confused. I guess we're on Jury Watch. Maybe they do it different in AR because I have never seen a murder case this short and disorganized. I hope the jury is smart.

WTH happened? Does the defense just not have a case? Whose DNA? Found when? Any follow up for exclusions? Not that I think he didn't do it - but this may leave an opening for an appeal later. Or am I missing something earth shaking??

I'm just as confused as you are. I have never seen this before...except maybe on Matlock. :giggle:

I think the defense was just throwing that DNA stuff at the wall hoping it would stick. Perhaps "ineffective assistance of counsel" appeal? But why not even TRY? I'm flabbergasted at the lack of effort from the defense. I even wondered if I fell asleep for a week and missed the trial. TWO DAYS? For a murder trial?

Thank you, JLSChook for the updates. Even the defense attorney has a lack of interest in this case!?

Oh, he'll just appeal. Probably figures why should he bust his arse now -- too much like work -- and besides, he wasn't nearly ready to go to trial. But the Judge denied his motion for a continuance. Why? He never denied any of the 7 other motions! That's not fair!! Heck, it'll take another 3-5 years for the appeals trial. New evidence! So many more DNA samples to be tested (all those animals in the forest, etc.!) , the Auto Zone employee -- something's fishy about that call -- better get a sample just in case; Duck's finally remembering who that was that they should have gotten a DNA sample from . . . not those other guys whose DNA was excluded! WRONG! Bah! How was he to know? He just got a couple of 'em mixed up. (Those brain cells are LONG gone!)
