Wasn't there a little 2 year old girl missing overnight in a corn field last summer? I believe she toddled 2 kilometres from the house, through the corn before she was found.

Great across the board local coverage, hopefully others will volunteer as all the LE are too on Thanksgiving to continue the search for little Malik Drummond. Start with a song sung by a volunteer who had the luck to once find his grandson after a six hour search.

Thank you...none of those.

It was Brooklyn's, I think, that had me hunting for this other girl.

I'm 99% sure it was a very young female...like max 4 (I'd say younger, but I think there may have been two younger siblings?)

I believe the mom left the kids home with dad to go to the store (and the assumption here was largely dad did something and/or the whole story was wonky) and I believe there were a lot of other kids and kids going in/out of the house.

I agree about that Alexandra one...followed that too. Strange.

I do just want Malik home, even if the story is...holy. But the temperatures don't help my concern level if this is all a little stinker of a kid!

Alexandra's case wasn't strange at all. Straight forward case with local LE/surrounding LE/ FBI all worked together with approved state of NM SAR. Alex kept moving. She came home all on here own. JMO.

I am really leaning toward Malik leaving the house. The rain recently started. The roads were slick. He walked into the road and a driver either didnt see him or didnt have time to stop and accidentally hit him. From there, the driver panicked and grabbed the baby noticing he was deceased and rather than call for help, he hid the baby's body. I truly hate to believe he has passed away... beyond that, I really feel awful for the father if he has 2 sons that have been killed by cars... or just 2 deceased children period.

Normally, I jump on the "the parents did it" bandwagon but for some reason, this one is not giving me that feeling. I truly hope that I am wrong with my scenario that he was hit by a car. Nothing would make me happier than someone abducting him because they want a child to love and lucky them, here is a 2 year old all by himself, but sadly, I am not getting that feeling either.

My prayer right now, if Malik is found on Thanksgiving, I hope he is alive (I hope this no matter what day he is found) but if he has to be found deceased, I hope it does not happen until Friday. It breaks my heart when an (assumed) innocent family gets horrible news on a holiday as they will never be able to enjoy that holiday again. I know that should be the furthest concern from my mind, but its one of the little things that bother me. Praying for a happy miracle!

It's still strange. She's not a toddler who got lost. It's strange because she's old enough to know better and she outwitted cops and search and rescue volunteers for days. If this is what she's doing at ten, what is she going to be doing at 20? Teaming up with the next Eric Frein?? I'm not literally suggesting she will have a criminal future, but seriously... She is not your average chilld, most could not run away from home and pull off what she did for even a couple hours, let alone a couple days, and that's why the case is STRANGE. I believe now that it's all sunk in, but it's still strange.

ETA: MOO

If so much time hadn't elapsed now, this one would be quite similar to Malik's...

http://www.oregonlive.com/news/index.ssf/2010/03/on_his_own_brookings_man_finds.html

Even at 2 days out she was hardly able to talk to the guy who found her - it was like a squeak sound by then (and they'd also been using copters, dogs, etc.)

And she was a missing 4 yr old from OR.

Her mother, Brooke, had picked her up from school that day, according to the Daily Triplicate of Crescent City, Calif., and was walking from the family car into the house when she realized her daughter wasn't with her. Zoey's parents looked for her but couldn't find the child. They called 9-1-1.

<snip>

He waited. And then he heard something.

"I heard a funny yip noise, a yelp," Crump told The Oregonian Friday morning. "It definitely didn't sound natural."

He zeroed in on the faint sound. He circled the canyon, stepping through thick layers of brambles, briars and fallen limbs. He followed game trails. He listened again for the faint cry but heard nothing.

"Zoey!" Crump called out over and over. No response.

"I was pretty discouraged. I would stop and listen," he said. "I wasn't getting any more response. I started to turn around to go back up the hill."

Hours later, and going even slower b/c it was darker (and also getting harder to hear)

And there was Zoey, right at his feet.

"She was so buried and camouflaged under the stickers and salal," he said. "I was circling around these bushes. I was very close to her and didn't realize it.

"It startled me," he said. He thought, "This can't be true."

Crump called out the words searchers had longed to hear all day: "I found her!"

<snip>

Meanwhile, Crump gingerly pulled back the thick underbrush that had buried Zoey, careful not to scratch the girl.

Finally, he was able to get his arms around her and pull her out.

"I grabbed her arm and put it around my neck, and she latched on," he said. "She was really cold and stiff. I just held her in my arms."

He carried her out, half the time crawling on his hands and knees.

All the while, he talked to Zoey.

"We are going to make it, Zoey. We are headed home to Mama."

Zoey, who was weak and hypothermal, never said a word.

When they finally reached the road, Peggy Crump wrapped the girl in a hoodie and a thick hunting coat. The couple reassured Zoey that help was on the way. A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter hovered overhead, then lowered a basket.

Old enough to know better and old enough to do better. She kept moving, moving, moving. She didn't fool the FBI nor the local LE. They KNEW better. She just ran away and stayed away biding her time and kept on the move. She returned home no worse for wear. Can't say the same for her family that was so distraught during her "escapade". jmo

Still don't know what happened to our little guy name Malik. Holding out hope for him. He's precious.

Little Malik Drummond's mom said he was scared and recoiled from loud noises. His uncle said he wasn't loud, let out something like soft whines. He's so small. How long would it have taken for this little one to go toward quiet, whatever interested him, then hunker down when tired and cold, not know where to go anymore, so cozy up to sleep somewhere, but out of range of 80 reported neighbors, some with trained dogs, and LE looking, for him late into the night hours after he went missing, the first night? If that's the path he fell on, that is. Somewhere people wouldn't see him the next morning or when he woke, if/when he ventured out again and set to again, farther the second day, third, and fourth day?

Possible Scenarios:
1) Malik wandered outside the home, and has gotten lost or trapped somewhere.
2) Malik wandered outside the home and was abducted.
3) Malik wandered outside the home and was struck by a car and the driver panicked (hit and run) and concealed the body.
4) Malik never wandered outside the home and was a victim of foul play by his family.
5) An accident occurred at home and his family panicked and covered it up by saying he went missing.
7) Malik was abducted while at home (while his stepmom was in the bath tub and his father slept)
8) Malik was abducted by someone on his bio moms side of the family as part of a custody dispute.

Am I missing any?

Investigators said Myra's mother left to go to a grocery store, and she told Myra and her sisters to go inside and wash their hands. The mother said she saw the children go in the door to the house.

Officials said Myra's father was inside taking care of a newborn baby.

That was the last time Myra was seen.

Does anyone know of any cases of wandering young children that were then abducted? I can't imagine he would be stranger abducted from the house with others there. So what are the chances he would encounter an abductor after leaving of free will?

The most reliable research available indicates that there are only 100-130 cases of stranger abductions a year in the United States. These events are most frequently committed by males (86%) who are between the ages of 20 and 39 (57%).

Again, the child was taken from an outdoor area in 54% of the cases but in 16% of the cases, the victim was abducted from his own yard or home. In the wider category of non-family abduction, NISMART found that 71% of the victims were taken from an outdoor area. In stereotypical kidnappings, less than 7% were taken from a store or mall. Stranger abduction events are usually committed for sexual purposes (49%) and in over 40% of the cases, the victim was murdered. That is in addition to the 4%, like Etan Patz in New York City, that have never been found.

The F.B.I. handled 93 cases of stranger abductions cases in 2001. That figure is actually a decrease from years past, especially during the 1980s when the average per year hovered around 200 incidents a year. Though the victim in most of these cases did not know the suspect, there was previous contact between them prior to the crime. This contact was usually a brief visual observation that took place while the suspect had a legitimate reason for being where he was. Those reasons included work related activities, such as a home delivery, a store clerk, a drive-by, in a park or sporting event. In over 85% of the cases, the child was kept within 50 miles of the abduction location and most frequently (28%), the victim was held in the home of the suspect.

http://www.crimelibrary.com/criminal_mind/psychology/child_abduction/4.html

Above are some stats showing stranger abductions of children and other related information. I realize that the odds seem very low that Malik may have been snatched out of his front yard by a stranger that was passing by at just the right moment, but it does happen. The article above addresses that exact scenario. There has to be a logical explanation of what happened to this boy, this is simply one of the possibilities that needs to be considered .

I wish this were 8, and maybe it will be. That seems like the option with the greatest chance of Malik being safe and happy. The part that doesn't make sense to me, though, is only taking one of the twins. Even if the bio twin wasn't the sister in the room (I'm not clear on that) seems like you would wait until they were together and take both, because you can't go back and pull this same stunt again later.

The scenario I can see for 7 is that a bad person got to know the family and then lured Malik out of the house that evening. Would also work for 2 if the bad person lived close. Saw the opportunity and took him.

And I know I will probably get banned but having a look on the bio-mothers fb page & she is sharing pictures of all sorts of strange things, along with hooded tops to buy etc. some1 has wrote under a particular pic regarding race of a child which says 'my mommy white, my daddy black, they created me how could you hate that' pic she shared and I quote...

'Naw hold up, I love the pic and sayn but I'm a lil confused tho. Is ur son still missing or not and if he is why are u on fb sharing pic like this like I would think finding ur child would be a lot more important juz sayin'

Bio-mum:- He is still missing its because of the race and im going through alot

Indeed you are but on fb, sharing pictures etc. Nah! Anyways if yous all have time have a look on the fb, shows the family in true drama light even admiting that they are 'dysfunctional' arguing in comments back and forth which I'm sure was meantioned as a rumour up-thread!

NOT in anyway blaming the mother just rather showing her frame of mind!

The mother (Tanya) is so worried she is sharing images of hoodies on her FB.

Seriously! I posted the same thing yesterday, about why someone on fb (I didn't name names, lol) would be sharing pictures of NY sweatshirts at a time like this!

(I guess people deal with things in different ways, though...maybe this helps her deal with this, keeping her mind occupied...what else can she do if every place has been searched? work on flyers...maybe see if the searchers need anything...)

BBM:
I had an experience when my youngest was 2 where I thought she was missing. We had our back door open. I was on the living room floor looking under a recliner that wasn't closing right to find out why. I spent a few minutes doing it and when I was done, I didn't see her. I asked my older two if they'd seen her. Did a very quick sweep of the house, then called 911. I lived near a pretty busy road and I figured it wouldn't make sense to try to search the neighborhood, not knowing where she was going.

Police were there so fast. I was so scared! Well, turns out the naughty little girl was hidden upstairs in her older brother's closet, eating his hidden candy stash!!! I had not looked in there because the door to his room was closed and I didn't think she could open it. Surprise! She had a new skill...lol. I was then so embarrassed!

But I would never search 45 min if I had no idea what direction the child had gone. With a kid that young you need as many eyes looking as possible!!

I wonder if both twins appeared to be autistic...or just Malik.

Interesting question. I don't know the answer to this.

A hit and run scenario has crossed my mind as well (posted upstream)...thinking further about this, if the driver had been drinking that might create even more panic on his/her part...

During the Q and A in yesterday's PC, I thought I heard a reporter ask something about working the case on Thanksgiving, and the response was yes, it's "Thursday" as far as he's concerned. Sorry I didn't get a chance to type that, but I'm glad you reminded me.

All this discussion about the time it took to report Malik missing reminds me (again) of Isabella Canella's case.

(Hey, what was that case where the lady abducted a baby, had planned it by even wearing a "moonbump"...?)

Any chances someone (woman) wanted a little boy?
