He is a farmer and his land is adjacent to hers. Though they have 3 years difference they are from same small area. I think maybe even same school. They knew each other. This is very small town/county.

Most likely he has seen her out there running enough to know a general pattern or to at least expect to see her a few times a week walking/running.

My theory is this was long standing infatuation coupled with what are deeply disturbing personal issues on his part. I speculate it was partly premeditated in that he was waiting for right time where she was out and he felt logistics were right to satisfy his impulse. Probably has rape fantasies and all that and figured he had the land and equipment to get away with it.

There are a couple missing blondes from the area last couple of years. There is no doubt in my mind those detectives will bring them up in the investigation.

This strikes me as being an escalation of impulsiveness rather than a first time. As a community they were all so close. Why start with your neighbor? He had to have known it would only be HOURS before it blew up into a search and that they would start right there where she lived and he farmed.

That's why I think it's not first time and is an escalation of excitement and impulsivness. A stranger no longer did it for him so he had to up the dosage. All speculation on my part of course we will see.

Yes, I couldn’t agree more! He was also acquaintances with her boyfriend who I believe also farms.. knowing that and the fact that most farmers are working long hours right now probably gave him the confidence because no one would suspect her missing until after dark. JMO

Yeah we will see. If it's his first time he went big. There's plenty of meth heads and prostitutes around that would have been 1000 times easier. Taking death penalty off table could be the only incentive to talk if there are any more victims. There are two missing blondes in the area the last couple of years. Brooke Allensworth and Priscalla Austin. Neither have been linked. But their names haven't been forgotten around these parts.

Jackson County Sheriff talks impact of Sydney Sutherland case on community and department | KLRT - FOX16.com
......
Almost every deputy knew Sydney Sutherland one way or another. Whether they watched her grow up or grew up along side her. Sheriff David Lucas said that’s not uncommon in a small community but the nature of this case is something he’s never seen before.

“As far as an abduction homicide I’ve not seen one in my 30 years,” Lucas said.

...
That’s exactly what they did. In 48 hours, Sutherland’s body was located and a suspect was put behind bars. You can tell by the mud on the patrol trucks, their job’s are still not done.
......

Sheriff Lucas said so many law enforcement agencies came from across the area to help out in this case. He says they were crucial in finding Sutherland’s body and making an arrest. He wants to thank everyone from those agencies to the volunteers that helped out.

What’s your sense? Did he just happen upon her on that desolate road? Was it near his land? Crime of opportunity or was he following her? Or hunting?

SS had a routine and I'm sure she recognized the same people driving CR 41 mid-afternoon including the UPS driver and probably QL. The County Roads are in somewhat of a maze but Hwy 18 (major) and CR 41, the road QL alleges he abducted her from, intersect. I don't know where QL lives but I don't think it would be unusual/suspicious for him to be seen on either of those two roads.

What bothers me here is why this time? Why didn't QL keep driving like he probably had hundreds of times before? He told investigators that he saw SS and passed her but then he turned his truck around. I don't know if he's done this before but I think he's been thinking, fantasizing about it. He was deliberate.
I'd also like to know if he was also at the gym on Wednesday. If he saw SS at the gym earlier then I definitely think he hunted her that afternoon.

Authorities finding SS's phone undamaged kind of throws me off because I'm not convinced he "abducted" her from the road. SS is quick, agile. I don't think SS feared him, and I think they were friendly. I think QL somehow got SS close to his truck. He may have even offered her a ride. Once inside she was trapped. Maybe QL threw the phone out the window.

I believe SS had to be incapacitated when QL drive 3 miles with her. I'm still looking over details, thinking, ....it's a long time until October's arraignment.

Yes I believe he used social engineering to get her close to or into the truck. Then once secured pulled a firearm on her and threw her cell phone out the window. But in the heat of moment didn't consider the Apple Watch. I read that they got no GPS pings from the apple watch but that was during the search and may have been a cover. No word on if they found the watch on her person or anywhere else.

Why that day? Could have been combo of his impulses and opportunity, like he knew the UPS truck had passed at it's usual time and nobody else in eyesight. Just my speculation.

Think it was partly premeditated and partly opportunistic. From his fields he would have had visibility for some distance every day to observe.

I wonder about the phone too. If he did throw it he probably assumed it would be destroyed and unusable. Interested to hear all of the exact locations - not generalities. I am actually also surprised that he didn't destroy her phone, he could have buried it anywhere or thrown it into a river. Not too smart, imo.

Throwing it means it keeps pinging in same location. Him transporting it anywhere would have given more pings. He could have turned it off and carried it with them but that opens up possibility she grabs it and turns it back on or some other mistake.

Also lends credibility to the story it was an accident and he panicked. Always possible she was savvy enough to chunk it. He wouldn't want to then have to retrieve it while also containing her in his truck.

Do you know where QL lived?
Did he farm near the searched area Hwy 18, CR 41-49?
What was located 3 miles away from CR 41 where he buried SS?
Only if you know....

You and I both i.e., exact locations. Difficult to map because it's all pastures/fields and no physical addresses! Also, I don't recall anything mentioned during probable cause testimony or MSM that QL was armed but I just see that coming up. Did I miss it?

I hope the authorities can set aside their shock and familiarity with both families in order to explore the possibility that this wasn’t a one-off.

He was answering from the stand point of right then and there. They are focused on Sydney. There are enough locals asking about the other missing blondes for it to be missed. Think they just need to catch up on current case. This is incredibly shocking to the community.

Also they are treading lightly on rumor and speculation which could taint the jury pool (if it goes to trial) and their handling of the case as the state could take it over at any time which might give impression they are incompetent.

Was reported lived in Jonesboro but actually not finding a source on that being his farmland right there. I try to stick to facts I've read, am I wrong? I will try to check later. If you know better let me know.

Nothing about him being armed. But it's Arkansas there is almost no doubt he carries a gun. So probably folks are assuming or speculating because he's way to huge to be able to catch her unless he had her cornered.

I see Arkansas is getting slammed with severe weather from Tropical Storm Laura. I can only imagine how somber the atmosphere is in that community. Hopefully everyone stays safe. I believe the funeral is set for tomorrow. It seems they are having a traditional viewing at a funeral home. I hate to be graphic but this makes me think it may be an open casket. I hope the rumors that she was burned were not true and the family can give her a proper burial.

I'll have to do a better job saving links I guess. All the stories about the search are getting buried. They were talking about how they got the pings from AT&T on the phone but nothing from the watch. It was during the search, good luck finding it.

I'm finding some of the stories of the search are straight up gone from the web. It was in one of the updates believe they were quoting sherriff

Got you. I'm finding it difficult to find some of the stories now from during search. It's all about the discovery and vigils etc.

It is possible I picked that knowledge up from a local in discussion also. I'm from the area but not close enough to Newport/Grubbs to confirm directly but could.
