Think I read he will NOT be flying commercial airline. Those reporters may have a long wait at the gate. Sorry, no link, just remember reading it.

I have never heard of transfer of prisoners by private plane. Perhaps transferred by our Canadian Armed Forces plane? Do we still have an open base in Germany.

This does not surprise me in the least. Also we will not know he is heading back to Canada until he has arrived, landed and been transported to where he will be held here in Canada until the start of his trial. I am sure there are more than a few reporters basically living at the Montreal airport just waiting and checking the arrival of any flights from Germany, Britain and France. I would think they would travel with him on a direct flight from Europe so they don't have to worry about transfering to a connecting flight if at all possible.

I don't really see the point. He'll be escorted from a police vehicle onto a plane, then escorted off the plane and into a police vehicle. It might make for a nice photo to put beside a one liner that "Eric Newman, aka Luka Magnotta has arrived in Canada." Other than that, it seems pretty much like non-news.

I can't imagine that taxpayers would pay for a private plane for this guy ... taxpayers should protest if that happens.

I'm not sure but I believe it was mentioned a LE plane or government plane. I read it in one of the many media reports. Have no idea which one, but thought I would just mention it. :waitasec:

But the photographer/reporter who gets that picture unfortunately would be paid big money for it.

I doubt that Montreal police have their own plane - one that would fly to Paris and back. As for government planes, the Prime Minister has one, but I'm pretty sure Luka Magnotta will not be a guest on that plane. That leaves military ... and why would a non-military person be allowed on a military plane?

Let them try then ... all the best to them ... chasing a plane and then a police vehicle. It won't be like Peru where the suspect is paraded in front of the media while police pose for candid shots beside the killer ... there's all that "innocent until proven guilty" stuff to overcome before those poses are available.

I believe that was mentioned in the article, Otto. :what:

There seems to be a common theme here that the internet and the general selfishness of modern life are breeding killers and psychos at an unprecedented rate. I have no idea whether or not its true, but I'd just like to post an opposing voice to balance things....

Read the whole essay by Steven Pinker here...http://www.edge.org/3rd_culture/pinker07/pinker07_index.html

i dont believe that it is breeding anything....i do believe the internet gives a platform for people to voice themselves on a greater and wider scale than if there was no internet. it also gives a certain level of power to one's voice....because online if you want, you can be and say anything and be anyone w/out it ever entering your offline life - if you so choose.

go to any comment section of any news article and read how nasty people can be....those people probably would never say the things they say to a person's face....same w/ forums...esp ones w/out rules....

it is also easier for like minded people to find each other and feed off each other, such as the proLuka FB pages that are popping up...

there have always been killers and psychos but we didnt hear from them nor hear about them as much pre-internet days....

IMO, of course :)

ETA (now that ive read more) i think the internet is a great place for good people too lol im not just focusing on the bad...ive met some amzing people online even one in particular lol...all thanks to the internet...

Wouldn't the cost be around $25,000? I suppose that if the Montreal police have that kind of money lying around and nothing better to do with it, they should spend it on a guy like Luka Magnotta. Seems to me, though, that Quebec is usually hard up for money and that without subsidies from a province in the West, they wouldn't be able to manage any budget. I bet people in the West don't agree with Montreal police spending money like that to bring a criminal to justice. There's no reason why he can't be hooked up to a catheter and whatever else is needed so that he can sit still on the plane until it lands. It's only six hours.

"Once the extradition has been approved, Magnotta will fly home on a normal commercial flight in the company of two Canadian security escorts. "

That sounds about right.

He's a garden variety murderer with nothing remarkable in his past and nothing remarkable in his future. I see no reason to give him any kind of special treatment ... other than being restricted to his seat throughout the flight ... maybe a catheter and a barf bag.

The kitten video was most likely filmed in Central America, so that is where the arrest should have happened. It was uploaded in the UK, so I suppose there could have been an arrest there too if someone in Central American had made a request. Two months after uploading the kitten video, LM moved to Montreal. They had no jurisdiction to arrest him because he had not broken any laws in Montreal ... yet.
Scotland Yard could find no proof that it was uploaded in the U.K. In fact, they said it was uploaded from somewhere in North America. That's why they said they didn't have the jurisdiction to do anything about it.

ETA: unless we're talking about a different kitten video, of course

About the planes....

I would be pretty ticked off if I was on a flight and found out Eric Newman was being transferred on that same commercial flight. I don't know how he will be transferred (canoe would be fun!), but I doubt it would be commercial. Too many 'commoners' that would be angry and go to the media about it, I reckon.

:moo:

No way they'll use a military aircraft to transport Luka home. It'll be by commercial airliner. It always is.

:floorlaugh: Trust me, we have enough protesters here right now protesting more important issues. I could see maybe 3 people doing that, and getting funny looks for it.

I read something ... about a week ago ... something in connection with the UK reporter ... that it was filmed in the Dominican Republic or Panama ... something like that, but that it was uploaded to the net in the UK. It may have been speculative rather than reporting ... don't know. I don't think it matters too much. Until it can be determined where it was filmed, charges cannot be laid for "cruelty to animals".

Why would it matter? At this time, he is considered innocent.

Borg, I've seen it done all the time. He'll be pre-boarded through a separate entrance and I doubt anyone on the aircraft (beside the pilot, who has to know) will be any the wiser.

It would be highly unusual if the process were changed just for lil' old Luka. There's a reason LE just announced that there won't be any more announcements. ;)
