Aruban authorities said Sunday that they intend to pursue criminal charges against Gary Giordano, the Gaithersburg man whose female companion disappeared on the island this month.

Aruban Solicitor General Taco Stein called Giordano a “suspect in a suspicious death.” Giordano told officials that Robyn Gardner, 35, failed to return to the beach after the pair went snorkeling Aug. 2., but officials have questioned his account. Her body has not been found.

Stein said prosecutors intend to criminally charge Giordano in connection with Gardner’s apparent death, but he did not specify the charge.

I have found about 4 Facebook profiles that look fake and are being run by GG. I bet the FBI will find evidence of this on his computer. The purpose of the profiles are to appear to be an attractive female who wants to trade pics (nudes, etc.) with other women. Actually, it may go beyond that. Give me a minute.

I met Robyn and Gary on the beach in front of the Marriott Stellaris Hotel on Sunday, July 31. They had arrived on that day. My husband and I sat and spoke with them for awhile. They asked my husband and I about activities on the island.... Was shocked to see that this had happened, since we just spoke with them last Sunday, late afternoon. I am sure it was Robyn because I commented on her tatoo, indicating that I liked it. Didn't think they went together as a couple, as he was much older. She was also sitting kind of far away from him on the beach chair. She was nice. We were actually discussing the Natalee Holloway case. I will pray for her return.

They may need to find the body soon to find out what happened.

I wonder if he is hoping the body will be found soon ... in the ocean ... to clear him, or if he is hoping that she is never found.

I don't think there is a "no body, no crime" law. There was quite a delay in getting to the truth with the disappearance of Natalie Holloway, but in this case notification that Robyn Gardner was missing, and a story about what happened was fairly immediate. Either Robyn would be a certain distance from the shore, and perhaps the tide was coming in - meaning she wouldn't drift too far, or perhaps the tide was going out and she was gone in minutes. I looked for tidal charts for Aug 2 but wasn't able to find past dated charts. I'd like to know what the tide was doing at 6 PM that day. Tidal charts would help to make more sense out of whether someone that drowned would wash back to shore. If there were searches for four days and they could not find her, then she probably didn't drown while snorkeling.

This is EXACTLY what I think happened. She's 35, not 18 - I would never take a trip with a man and not expect him to try and sleep with me. she probably thought she could lead him on and get things from him. I think he tried something, he was paying for everything there, got mad and violent when she rebuffed him.

Not blaming the victim at all, but I'm a few years younger than her and I wouldn't play these games with men anymore - maybe I would have tried it at 18 or 19 but at 35 you have to know what the deal is and I would expect her to have been around the block enough to know a guy's motives when he buys an incredibly beautiful woman a trip - no man does that just to "be nice" - there is always an angle.

Quite true. However, I will grant that she was still in an acrimonious divorce regarding alimony and financial settlement, and that could have left her a little more vulnerable or careless. Whether she was willing to play by the rules is unknown. Separate rooms says friends, one room says everyone knew the score.

One of the news link I read earlier today said they searched "their" room. As in one room. Now that's not to say there wern't two beds in the room but I understand what your saying.

They arrived July 31, he was arrested after going through customs on August 5. She disappeared on August 2 and was reported missing at 6:23 PM; last heard from at 3:00 PM, last seen at the dive shop at 4:00 PM.

Was it already mentioned here that Giordano had been arrested in 2003 for shoplifting? I found this information mentioned briefly in an article about him and then sleuthed an original article which describes the crime:

This is odd because it does not fit his profile of a rich playboy using his money to seduce young women with cruises and expensive vacations.

I do agree it doesn't fit the "rich playboy seducing women" profile, but it DOES show a willful disregard for law. This might also speak to a world of character defects.....

Another murderer with plenty of money who shoplifted unnecessarily was Robert Durst. Major mental issues there also.

Maybe these people get some kind of smug satisfaction proving they can do/have anything they want and are above the law.

Too bad Robyn didn't take his past criminal history more seriously.

Did he have six x-boxs or something? He only had three sons, so why did he need six game boxes? Was he stealing to resell the goods?

I don't think he has a criminal record or past history beyond petty theft. There does seem to be a past allegation/history that was ignored by police, even though they had video evidence, so it's hard to figure that out. Was he a bad guy that beat and raped a woman, or was he involved in consentual S&M videotaped sex (the sign is on the front door)?

Marriott and Holiday Inn were mentioned with Holloway, but Robyn Gardner disappeared at the southern tip of the Island ... Ms Holloway was reportedly looking at the sharks on the northern tip and later disappearing near the dunes just south of the lighthouse on the northern tip.

Sharing a room probably means that everyone knew the score so if there was a disagreement about what free trip meant to a 35 year old divorcee, the single room clarifies.

So actually, they stayed at The Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino in Oranjestad, and it had nothing in common with Natalie Holloway other than both women are missing and possibly drowned off Aruba?

While we have no idea the reality of the relationship between Robyn and GG, I'm thinking that they more than likely had a sexual relationship if they had been seeing each other off/on for awhile. My guess is she went to Aruba for whatever reason - maybe down and out b/c of trouble with her BF and then losing her job - then got there and wasn't having such a good time. I'm sure there is a reason that she was not dating GG more steadily but maybe the lure of the trip to Aruba got the best of her - and it wasn't until she was there that whatever repelled her reared its ugly face again. Then perhaps he saw the text she sent to her BF and went ballistic - killing her in a rage.

That's what I think happened, based upon others' reports in the media that he wanted e-mail passwords of theirs, etc. JMHO, of course.

I see posts about people reading others texts and I can't help but think that most people have smart phones and if not, have the ability to put a lock on their phone, preventing anyone from accessing the phone and contents in it. If she could access FB (I'm assuming from her phone) then she had a smart phone.

I think that most people lock their phones - especially someone in that position - where she is texting another man. I lock mine all the time and it's on auto lock. Someone could go on there and buy a whole lot of stuff and I would be screwed. It gives you 10 tries then it deletes everything in the phone. Also, I would think if she didn't lock it, she would delete the text, knowing full well that things were going downhill fast.

Unless GG was so controlling that he made her remove the lock. She doesn't strike me as someone who would say sure thing - not likely when she's texting the BF.

As for FB, GG could have easily seen that post, unless she de-friended him and made her settings private.

Exactly ... she could have posted facebook and gmail from her phone, and after posting on facebook it was pretty much open for all to read. So her comment about being able "to communicate" could have been because she thought she was posting on a facebook site that GVG couldn't see ... although we can see it so it can't be all that private.

This is just what I think may have happened:

1. RG divorces and is lonely, not used to being alone. Goes onto dating sites, starts dating, gets more tattoos, drinking, partying, and it makes her feel better from the trauma of the divorce.
2. Meets RF. They get sexual, but are not exclusive. She is dating other people, enjoying that freedom. Is not sure RF is "the one."
3. Meets GG. They get sexual, but she decides in Jan 2011 to agree to RF's demands to be exclusive, stops dating GG.
4. GG stalks and obsesses over her, keeps calling and emailing.
5. RG does not cut off all communication from GG and allows him to pursue her. Ignores roommate and friend concerns. RG wonders if GG could change, sees a rich lifestyle she has wanted since she was little.
6. She at this point is now not sure she wants to be exclusive with RF, they fight and it's not as great as she had hoped it would be, especially on these terms. She can't go back on the exclusivity point with RF as she knows he would be hurt and might end it completely. RG does have feelings for RF but she doesn't know if they are strong enough and she doesn't want to rush into another marriage, plus has alimony payments being sought from ex.
7. Agrees to meet GG for drinks from time to time, after fights with RF and feeling justified in cheating on him. She doesn't sleep with him though, she feels that would be taking it too far with the agreements she has made with RG.
8. Coming up to July now, RG and RF have a big fight on the beach and police are called by onlookers. Relationship on rocks. RG has also lost her job.
9. GG is at right place, right time, woos RG into going to Aruba with him. All expense paid, etc. RG wants to go, is pissed at RF and doesn't feel guilty about the idea. She tells GG that she will go.
10. RG lies about trip to RF and says it is with family, etc. Also tells others similar lies about reason for trip. Does tell roommate.
11. RG gets to Aruba with GG and they check in, eat, etc. In the process sees his controlling ways and his anger. Is turned off.
12. RG will not have sex with him in Aruba. GG gets very angry over this, feels like he is getting played and used to get a free trip to Aruba. "This sucks" sent by RG to RF FB at 2 a.m. RG has decided she is going to try to make it work with RF and is certain she doesn't want a relationship with GG. GG is angry and vindictive.
13. GG decides there is enough justification to rape and kill her. He feels used and wants to get even. He plots it out that night.
14. GG takes her to lunch. GG talks about their relationship some more to be sure that she really feels this way. She tells GG that she just wants to be friends. She sends message to RF saying she loves him and wants to work it out when she gets back.
15. Last seen by beach at 4 p.m.
16. GG takes her by car to the other side of island by cliff, supposedly to sight see. He arrives at around 4:30 p.m. He parks car and proceeds to rape her violently and ultimately strangles her to death.
17. GG throws body over cliff by 5:30 p.m.
18. GG puts on swimming trunks and tennis shoes, drives back to beach. Asks for cell phone of someone on beach, calls 911 and reports that she was swept out to sea while snorkeling.
19. GG refuses to give DNA because he knows there is his sperm DNA in car, and doesn't want those dots connected. Has told the police they are just friends and this will not match his story.
20. FBI will get DNA from house, match it with DNA found in car, and we should see charges for murder and rape.
