Debate erupted in court today after the lawyer representing a woman accused of murdering her elderly parents asked for a four-week delay in the case, arguing she needed more time to properly fulfil her “duty” to her client.

Raelene Polymiadis, accused of killing her parents Brenda and Lynton Anderson with insulin, was due to enter her pleas to the allegations at Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

But her lawyer, Rachael Shaw, asked Magistrate Lynette Duncan for another four weeks to go through the “incredibly large brief” from the prosecution.

Ms Duncan granted the defence a four-week adjournment.

A lawyer for a woman accused of murdering her parents with insulin has told a court there was “nothing similar” about the two deaths.

The case will now go to trial at the Supreme Court, and Marie Shaw KC, speaking for Ms Polymiadis, asked Justice Julie McIntyre to set a directions hearing in two weeks.

“We are awaiting some further disclosure from the prosecution,” she said.

Ms Shaw also stated that her client might apply for separate trials.

Her lawyers are considering applying for separate trials because they say there is nothing similar about the deaths of Brenda and Lynton.

At the moment, the trial is set for June 2026 and will run as one trial for 12-14 weeks!

There will be another pre-trial hearing in November. The defence are continuing to receive evidence from the prosecutors.

Her (home-detention-if-she-feels-like-it ... imo) bail is continued.

June 2026 sounds like a long way off! And 12-14 weeks sounds like a long trial for what appears to me to be a relatively simple, cut and dried sort of crimes. (Lucky I won't be on the jury, I know)

My guess is that because they are allowing 3-3½ months for the trial it will be a matter of that much time being available in one continuous block in the court calendar. That is a long trial.
