I'll admit I'm not always good at judging people - I tend to give the benefit of doubt in case you haven't noticed :blushing: I can't apologise though for not always rushing to accuse or judge people.

That said - I don't get any sinister vibes from his pic. He looks a bit soft if anything, but you never know, do you?

By the way, just want to say how cool it is to talk with you guys all the way over there in Australia! It reminds me of when I had penpals as a kid. :)

Way OT, but haven't things changed since the days of penpals!? I remember it was such a big deal and that you had to join a pen pal group to even find a pen pal. I know several people who formed life long friendships and have had overseas visits with their childhood penpals. Now we worry about our kids having potentially creepy internet friends ...

kind face is the first feeling i get when looking at the photo.
but, looking again i get a creepy feel off it, like an undercurrent of something?

The guy broke into someone's house and kidnapped a child and kept her for over 2 days. That doesn't constitute a "soft" person.

His pic gives me the creeps.

I wonder if the burglary charge would be regarding taking things from the tennis club? Perhaps even the break and enter charge??

And Ted Bundy was handsome, well liked and respected...

And Jeffrey Dahmer was quiet, shy and kind.

And BTK and John Wayne Gacy were well respected members of their communities for decades.

And I'm giving myself a self-imposed timeout. :blushing::seeya:

One of the articles posted earlier said he was arrested after a break in at a tennis club, and that his fingerprints matched some found on the window sill of CC's home. I figured that was the one piece of evidence that tied him to this crime.

Imagination running wild here regarding him being sorry for CC's living conditions. What if it was initially a break in, and he spotted CC on the floor - I know I was struck by the fact that the mattress on the floor shown in earlier footage was only a single sized one. I wondered how the three girls could all sleep on one small mattress - it would be ok for snuggling up watching tv, but room for all three to sleep comfortably? Maybe CC was not even on the mattress when he entered the house - I can imagine how sad a little girl sleeping on the floor would have looked amidst the disarray of the house (as we also saw in footage)

Yes this fellow is a crook, but perhaps not the sort we were dreading finding out about? Maybe he was a burglar who was touched by a pitiful scene - very misguided (and creepy) of him to take a child in any case. I know it sounds like some sappy story from a bad movie - but who knows? I wonder if this guy is estranged from his own family and in the midst of some sort of emotional breakdown/missing his own kids or something?

It will be interesting to hear what he was attempting to burn at his home - hopefully that will shed more light on what his intentions were. It sounds like he could have been getting rid of either evidence or bad memories.

bbm - We have to keep in mind though that video was at the friend's house after the family left their own. We have not seen anything in the media showing the inside of the family's home, nor do we know what shape the inside of their house is in, how clean, cluttered, etc.

I find it hard to believe though that this man doesn't know the family, climbed into a stranger's window and took CC randomly, took her to his home or wherever and showered her, washed her toy (and clothes?) and then brought her back. Why? Out of the kindness of his heart? I'm thinking we're going to learn a lot more soon. And I don't think it can be good at all. I'm not sure I even want to know the outcome of all this :scared:

What is the feeling when you see his photo? Any feedback please?

Honestly he gives me the creeps. But I don't know if that's because I know who he is and what he's done as a result of following this case. If I was shown the photo not knowing anything about this case I might have a different opinion. :dunno:

I'm just really creeped out right now. I live nowhere near Australia. I live in the states, out in the country. I rarely ever check my windows. We don't always bother to even lock our door or our vehicle. But I've checked EVERYTHING tonight I am that creeped out!!

Why did she not cry out if this person has no family ties? Unless she was still asleep I guess but this so doesn't make any sense to me......

Terror? Got to be pretty terrifying to be taken out of your home by some random man in the middle of the night. Maybe he threatened her. Poor little girl must have been so scared and confused.

To be honest, it sounds like he has mental health problems to me. I can actually believe that he watched the family and saw a toddler being treated badly (possibly living in a house of drug users), then thought he could solve that problem. We all know it's not true - but to someone who is functioning in an alternative way mentally, it's feasible. He obviously hasn't got a grasp on reality either way.

I still think there is a lot more to the story. But if there's not, I'm laughing so hard at the family and friends who dobbed themselves in as drunks and drug users. The public had no need to know about the drug debt, the threat 9 weeks ago, the bar brawl, the previous convictions etc. They really shot themselves in the feet.

Snr Const Sperling said fingerprints found at the scene of the alleged abduction matched prints taken from Kane in Maryborough, where he has been accused of committing a break-in at a tennis club at 1.30am yesterday.

When interviewed, Snr Const Sperling said Kane stated "I had to get out of Childers because of the heat".

"The defendant's vehicle was full of his property," she said.

The prosecutor said Kane allegedly went on to make further admissions, including "I took Chloe and brought her back" and that he "felt sorry for the conditions she was living in".

"During investigations at the defendant's address, police have located remains of a fire with remnants of some items in it," she said.

"There is a concern if the defendant is released he will attempt to destroy that evidence."

It sounds like a nutty reason, but it might just be what he did think .. maybe he is short of a few screws and thought he was actually helping her? Might explain the washed toy and the fact she appeared to have been well taken care of?

he was not known to the family but, says he took the sleeping child because he felt sorry for the way she was living, a court has heard.

how did he know where she slept and also the way she was living? Has he been watching the house?

Small town like Childers? Everyone would know everything about everyone else, even if they don't socialise much .. if someone sneezes in the main street it's all over town by lunchtime, and by then it's an earthquake .. well that's what it's like in <insert my small town> anyway :)

:floorlaugh: totally fruity.

Police think Kane acted alone and had no known links to the family, Inspector Bruce McNab says.

"Everything at this stage is indicating he acted alone, but the investigation is still ongoing," he said.

"We still have some lines of inquiry to follow out but at this stage we're not looking for a second offender.

"He was not known to the family and there's obviously a reason why he selected the family, but I don't really want to go into much more than that."

Kane used his court appearance to deny the charges.

During the hearing, Kane said he had been "tricked" by police.

Ms Sperling said Kane had been arrested in Maryborough, while on his way to New South Wales

There's been an arrest? Ive been gone all day.
Just wow.....no affiliation with the family?

Was Chloe sexually assaulted?

There's more to the story, I'm sure of it.

Extra detectives arrivied yesterday, even though police had his fingerprints and they matched the windowsill? They knew it as of 1.30am the day before, according to news reports. Why would they call 30 or 40 extra detectives if they had that evidence and he was acting alone?

He seems to have no links to any other place except the Childers area and close surrounds, yet police were investigating up to Hervey Bay and down to Tweed Heads?

The mother of the abducted child suggested there would be another arrest, yet:

He had no links to the family, yet they took the DNA of 20 friends and family members AFTER they had his fingerprint?

He had no links to the family, yet he knew where to go through the house to find a sleeping child - and managed to take her without waking her up (or her sisters, who she was right next to)?

Police told the court Mr Kane had admitted to taking the sleeping child on April 10 because he felt sorry for the way she was living

It's not adding up.
