WHEN police intercepted Ian Robert Armstrong's phone calls, it wasn't drug deals they were expecting to hear about. The 29-year-old was being monitored in April last year as a person of interest in an investigation into the disappearance of Robert Martinez and Chantal Barnett.

While police are yet to discover the location of the missing pair since they were last seen in February last year, they discovered Armstrong had been trafficking methylamphetamine and cannabis.

Armstrong pleaded guilty in the Rockhampton Supreme Court on Thursday to drug trafficking.

"Armstrong made little money as he was selling the drugs to support his own drug habit.

…. the father-of-five made 68 deals during the period he was monitored in April.

…. 47 of those deals were for methylamphetamine.

Justice McMeekin said Armstrong needed to stay out of jail for the sake of his children, four of whom are under the age of 13.
"It should be your job to look after (your children), not the community's," he said."

"The items that are being forensically tested and examined," he said.

"We have some of the top scientists in the state working on these matters from our police scientific unit.

"We are confident that with advances in technology, time is no barrier."

He said members of the community had provided information to the police investigating the case.

"Without the input from the community, and in this particular case the individuals concerned, this particular find may never have eventuated and we thank them for that," he said.

"Whilst time now has passed, we are confident that with forensic testing, we will achieve results."

Qld bones linked to double murder probe

HUMAN bones found on a central Queensland property could belong to a local couple missing for a year and a half.

POLICE say a farmer found the bones on a property near Rockhampton on Wednesday afternoon.
Forensic officers are investigating who the bones belong to, but they're believed to be from one person.

Detective Inspector Darrin Shadlow says the remains were located near other items, which were found during an investigation into the deaths of Chantal Barnett and Robert Martinez.

The local pair was last seen alive in March 2013 and despite numerous searches and public appeals they are still missing.

Det Insp Shadlow says police aren't jumping to conclusions but both families have been told about the bones.

"Obviously it's a little bit of shock. I suppose when they do get told that remains are found people hold out that glimmer of hope in relation to it," he told reporters.
