I think the pub you are referring to , close to Steve's, was the Broadway Tavern , in the Broadway shopping Centre

I tend to suspect it was lost first, then butt covering. Could it be because someone might have jumped out and identified MM as "Oh I know that guy. It looks like Mark Dixie!"

Police convicted Mark Dixie for exposing himself in Bunbury under his alias of Shane Turner. When his fingerprints came back to a match for having a conviction in Sydney, we deported him in April 99. He was never charged with raping and stabbing a Thai university student in WA and when he got back to London, murdered Sally Ann Bowman.

The UK Police were highly critical of WApol so perhaps they were reluctant to risk Dixie coming back into picture and making them look silly again.

I don't believe the full story is out yet and what about the 13 people were they all making up the sightings or was their description wrong. I would imagine they rang in because the description fitted what they saw or what they thought they saw. The delay in releasing that CCTV is criminal was it a tactical decision to hold it back or was it lost and found when they went over the evidence in a review.

Yes, I got the same message earlier this afternoon. Seems to have cleared up now.

Thinking back to the 1980s the Raffles in Applecross was by far the best of hotels. There were lots of hotels around the area but many were very quiet, catering for older men at the bars. I'm compiling a list of hotels and will post shortly.

The Raffles had a duel personality, venue for top bands I went to see Dell Shannon and Sherbet and the centre of underworld crime boss Abe Saffron's empire. Take note of the two paragraphs that start

With police and politicians in his pocket

as it says he provided whatever these people wanted, then they were in his power to be used when he needed a favour. And of course the most compromised were those he filmed with underage boys and girls. His son wrote a book about him and as the main players die off he releases an updated version with more information. Juliet Wills does something similar with her book Dirty Girl about Shirley Finn and the WA brothel industry.

Pic 5 was a tough one to look at thats for sure Spooks. RIPJR .
And the old pubs.. Wow, havent times changed!! Had many a good night seeing heaps of great bands at some of them. Even learnt to drive after a few too many in the carpark of the Floreat at about 15/16. Oh my!!
Pubs for clarity - Highway Hotel aka Coronados now Claremont Medical Centre. Silver Slipper aka Broadway Tavern & Minskys in Nedlands. The Brewery Alehouse aka Broadway Tavern. I dont think any of those would have been a place he'd go, in fact, I think most of the pubs could be scratched off the list. It might be useful info if we knew what he was into ie..followed the bands, went to the hot spot on the best night, played the pool comps or whether he didnt go inside at all. That may filter the pack, but I doubt it & to check out every pub/club??
Some of those were purely places you went to see a band that was in town & the only reason we would go from north to south of the river, never to socialise. I get the feeling he'd have socialised around the scene he grew up mainly too ie Gosnells pubs & Im pretty sure there was a nightclub there as well, Ive never been out that way though. If he was into the Eagles from the get go, Fridays aka Toyko Joes aka Red Sea in Subi was the haunt for heaps of the players along with Gobbles in the earlier years, they attracted the girls too. I cant see that helping but Id say he probably scoped Subi at various times.
We know he came across Claremont & it makes no difference how; work, passing through, following from Cott, speedway, whatever - he saw its potential as a secluded spot that girls felt safe & were often alone. He probably trawled one end of Perth to the other when he was in SK mode just looking. He probably looked every time he was out on the road too. While I can see why someone would go to Cottesloe repeatedly, who hasnt been to a Sunday Sess there plus you can hover around outside and be able to blend in. Same with Scarborough. Otherwise, he's going to a place that has the most opportunity. If he went to others on the list Id suggest it was a particular place on a particular night when it was the hotspot - but I doubt it. Hes probably seen a band or two at the Shents.. Or not..who knows. And no matter how hard I try, i just cant imagine anyone from Huntingdale/Kewdale traipsing across the other side of town to hit CBV ro socialise. That place was a dive & it stunk. We went because there was nowhere else to go close to home & you'd only stay because your shoes were stuck stuck to the floor! It was so gross. So I cant see the point of chasing up all the pubs in a 10km+ radius unless your narrowing it down to really particular times and places for a reason. Ie someone was attacked!! .
Did he cruze Broadway to Steves to UWA and find an opportunity to assault a student at some point ?...maybe.
Did he sit outside the Swanbourne Hotel or train station at some point waiting to attack? ...maybe.
We know those things have already happened. We know when they happened. We know a few details about how they happened.
So.. Was it him? Did he do it? Who knows!
Do you think he scoped out the Wembley or the Mosman Park Hotels or cruised past the Shents or the Albion or the Floreat regularly because they're nice easy places where your highly likely to find someone alone in the right location to abduct.. No way.. Ok,maybe, but highly unlikely!! You dont stalk a pub, you stalk an area, we know where he chose to stalk that side of town & theres been plenty of plausible reasons offered as to why. He may have found an opportunity elsewhere at one time or another & taken it, but will anyone be able to narrow it down from every pub in the area - not a chance. Why not every pub in Perth if the goal is to look for things we dont already know occurred that he may have done? Probably worth looking at Mandurah too if thats the case. Go for it by all means, but I cant get the point.

Police are examining other cold cases that might be linked to CSK. So to create our own list of cold cases, we'd need to hone in on similarities, and or areas the accused might've been prowling.
There's might be a lot of these that are only reported to Police, and not the media though, and maybe some that were never reported at all, until now.

Hello everyone! After lurking here since the arrest of BE I finally decided to sign up. I would just like to say I’m overawed by the detail and links and theories provided by the users here! It’s made the time fly by at work reading through them all LOL.
The reason this case is fascinating to me, I moved from the UK to work as a sports coach at Christ Church Grammar school in 2006, I had never heard about this case before I got there, but even 10 years after the events, it was very widely talked about it in the area and Western Suburbs in general. These suburbs I found to be very clique, especially in the private school circuit, so everyone knew someone who knew the victims parents etc. I lived in Claremont and Mosman Park between 2006-2013 and was fascinated by the case, I remember vividly when Crime Investigation Australia released the notorious MM tapes. Living in Mosman Park, I was also struck by the slightly odd vibes there, generally a very nice area but came across some very strange people. Interesting to me the link with Mosman Park and some events in the 90s, Pamela Lawrence and SS trying to take a taxi there etc.
Anyhow I since moved to NZ where I live now, and could not believe when I heard of the arrest!! It made the news here actually.
sorry for such a long intro post! Haha but I have a couple of questions. Am I right in saying that Claremont from the time of the murders in 96 and 97 did not change in layout at all up until 2009 ish with the building of the Claremont Quarter? The other thought I had out of curiosity, was it known if any of the three girls in Claremont had mobile phones on them? And how common was it in 1996 for people of that age to have a mobile phone?
Thanks for your time!

Welcome. Although I had an Motorola CDMA flip phone back in 94, not many people had mobile phones until Nokia brought out the 5110 & 6110 in 1997 and Telstra started giving away phones on their 2G digital network mobile plans.
Coverage was crap though. You'd just have to drive out to Wellard or Ellington and you'd have no coverage back in those days.

Hi Pete and ESH! Yes my first mobile was a Nokia 5110 in 1999. Was just curious if either of SS, CG, JR did. Given that SS used a phone box I’m thinking no. But CG being a young professional at a law firm, maybe.

Most of the incidents below occurred in June. Included within the timeline are other known criminal perpetrators. Also, James Tilbury who was convicted of Killing Vanessa Devlin (June 1988) lived in Bentley. Did BRE work in Ewing St, Bentley from about 1986 to the early 1990s?

Hi NickyScarfo and welcome !

IIRC back in the late 90's, the only people that had mobile phones were people that worked on the the road or were gadget type tech-heads. The latter being the sort of person that always had to have to latest gizmo or gadget.

IMO, Since early model mobiles were only wireless telephones, and not the mini-computers/cameras they are today, people bought them only if they needed to be in contact with others while out on the road.

I'm guessing CG didn't own at mobile phone at time of her abduction since she just returned from a long overseas holiday. And I doubt that Aussie mobiles could be used overseas back then, but I'm no Telco/communications expert.

JR worked in childcare so I doubt she 'needed' a mobile phone, so she probably didn't own one.

IIRC, I think by about 2000-2002 mobiles were more common, with Nokia holding market majority.

Thanks spooks, obviously if they did have mobiles the police would of taken all details they could from them, I was just interested in case the accused had taken them or discarded them at some point, either at the time or after the events.

JC - NO shoes, bag, or other personal items found at beach.

Fiat found upside down so obviously was rolled over by waves if Fiat was driven into the water.

The former owners of the Claremont and Club Bayview saying that by the end of their ownership in 2014 business had only recovered to 70% of what it was pre Claremont murders.

Logic would assume that Claremont area suffered business losses.

However remember the "Reclaim the night" protest march would suggest locals were fighting against the stigma and fear caused by the CSK crimes.

The Continental Hotel rebranded to The Red Rock Hotel which probably was a marketing ploy to convince punters and public that Claremont was safe again. Rebranding occurred IIRC around 2000 but I'm not [emoji817] certain???
