What info do you mean?

People questioned why 12 years to release MM footage. I want to know why 12 years to release the car info? I would have thought maybe after 2 years, throw that out there and see if they get anything - at the very least see if those drivers come forward.

that's exactly what i mean.

12 years for MM and the information about the two cars. Everyone seems to think MM is a red herring, but no one is saying the info about the cars is a red herring also?

Yet it took 12 years for info about both to come to light. If the car sightings are legitimate then pretty stupid to withhold that information.

In regards to name suppression in SA.

Central to the Australian legal system is the principle that justice must be seen to bedone.1 The standard position is that legal proceedings are open, information is notconcealed from those present at the proceedings, and the media can report what hasoccurred in open proceedings. Open justice is a basic aspect of what it means for alegal tribunal to operate. And yet, in some circumstances unrestricted reporting couldfrustrate the administration of justice.

Another model is provided by South Australia. There, courts can make suppressionorders under s 69A of the Evidence Act 1929. (This outline concerns s 69A as itexisted during September 2006; expected reforms are considered below.) It does notuse a test of necessity, but requires satisfaction that an order ‘should be made’ on oneof two grounds: preventing prejudice to ‘the proper administration of justice’ orpreventing ‘undue hardship’ to children, alleged victims of crime, or witnesses (whoare not parties) in civil or criminal matters.51 In addition, courts must recognise as‘considerations of substantial weight’ the ‘public interest in publication of informationrelated to court proceedings, and the consequential right of the news media to publishsuch information’.52 Courts can only make an order against publication ‘if satisfiedthat the prejudice to the proper administration of justice, or the undue hardship.

So I'm guessing the name suppression was granted due to the overwhelming media coverage this story received. It is not uncommon at all for this to happen here in SA so I wouldn't read into it too much, the guy had been linked to a murder in Tasmania if I recall correctly, however I don't think he is our CSK.

Who can remember which shops were on Stirling Highway between Langsford Street and Loch Street in 1995?

Golden Dragon chinese restaurant at approx 235.
There was a radiology centre at 237. Dr Peter Jackson maybe?
Swimming pool shop has always been there
There was place that sold boats on cnr Goldsworthy Rd next to the chemist

If we speculate why the doco was made there are two options;

1. The police decided they need a public appeal and approached CIA
2. CIA were filming their new season and approached police because they felt CSK would be a good episode

It could be a bit from 1 and a bit from 2 but my money is on Option 2. Police had a look and thought they may as well use to have a crack at getting a break in the case.

Whichever way it happened they seemed very structured, specific and strategic about the content. They led the campaign with the MM footage. Marketing 101. Created a huge buzz that captured the public's attention and ensured they would get large amounts of people watching the MM footage and the CIA doco.

Then they offered up other new information;

1. CG was seen talking to the occupants of a light coloured vehicle
2. Some witnesses saw a vehicle approaching SS shortly before she disappeared (I am yet to find an earlier reference to this. If anyone can, please post)

And they offered up two new suspects;

1. MAP
2. KSP

Then there's speculation in some quarters that they were parading one of their POI's to try and get some bites.

because IMO there was no car.

Frankie,

How busy was it in the immediate vicinity of the bus stop? Were people entering or exiting Hungry Jacks , trying to catch cabs from your side of the Highway, or walking past you?

If the MM footage is legit (as in they don't know who he is) then I half get it. Macro claimed that getting that footage out early in the piece would have created tunnel vision, and I agree. If people thought MM was the CSK then many would subconsciously rule people out who don't fit the description and potentially miss cues. But 12 years? Even if they were always confident that MM was not important, they might have had a shot after 3 or 4 years. Unfortunately Caporn is a one-eyed sort of guy evidence wise and had a track record of not bringing anything to light that may put doubt in the minds of jurors down the track.

But the cars. Again, I agree that it's important not to induce tunnel vision in the public, but 12 years is way too long to sit on that information. I don't understand why after a number of reviews it wasn't suggested to release that information at some stage?

Then there's the issue with the fibres. Lost. Found. Lost. Found. Just doesn't seem a plausible set of events.

It seems logical that there should be an inquest but Macro are somehow able to convince this not to go ahead. Is their argument that they have an ongoing operation based on a truck load of lies and to have an inquest would expose the lies and effectively end the operation?

They say they didn't want tunnel vision yet the entire macro task force went after LW for how long?

In Channel 7`s news late this afternoon the Turners (and Police) are seeking more info re Kerry Turners murder where she was left near Canning Dam in 1991. They are still looking for a possible blue Datsun which they recon Kerry was seen getting into. Looks like a 260Z from memory. Who know how accurate the 2 witnesses were. The article will appear on Ch7 again at 6pm if you did not see it.

The length of time was justified IMO. The tunnel vision they had, not so much. My impression is that when Stanbury took over he chased down all those avenues which should have been done in parallel with the LW investigation. There were 8 or 9 reviews and not one of them said Macro incorrectly targeted LW. I also know police culture is to never admit fault and believe the reviews would have erred on the side of favourable (quite possibly heavily), but it seems evident that every single review believed LW was justified POI #1.

Here is an article from the Post, We know the Claremont killer, dated 2001/09/01.

I think someone just brought this up a few pages back.
Anyone have any idea why Jennifer Wilby has never come on the radar?

Anyone know anything about her?

edit: a guy called Dennis Bell was convicted of her murder. He may have been a boyfriend. Carry on.

Hi all, back from our trip and have caught up on all the latest good sleuthing work you've all been doing. I saw this article and thought it quite apt as several posters have been talking about CSK having to be home before daylight for his girl friend, partner, spouse. These women were all married to vicious serial killers and yet seemed to have no clue about what was going on. Like I said previously, you can be working/living with a monster and not know about their double life!

Sutton maybe go to the Ch 7, 9 & 10 websites in Perth & maybe you can view footage there. Might have to wait till the morning, I really don`t know.
