An investigation is underway after the bodies of two boys were found in a Faulconbridge home. A crime scene has been established at a home in Faulconbridge after two children were found deceased a short time ago.

Sorry if thread has already been started, I did look & couldn't see one.

The bodies of two boys aged nine and 11 have been found in a Blue Mountains home and their mother has been arrested and taken to hospital under police guard.

Officers were called to the home in Faulconbridge about 12:40pm today after concern was raised about the welfare of the mother and her two sons.

NSW Police said the children's bodies were found inside the house by their father who contacted emergency services.

He is assisting police with the investigation.

The 42-year-old woman sustained a number of injuries.

Police sources told the ABC the boys had been stabbed and the woman had self-inflicted stab wounds.

The children, aged 9 and 11, were discovered by a family member at the home on Chapman Parade in Faulconbridge just before 12:40pm on Tuesday suffering reported stab wounds.

Their 42-year-old mother was airlifted to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition after a Toll ambulance helicopter landed at nearby Springwood High School. She will be treated for self-inflicted cuts to her wrists.

Retired homicide detective Steve Ticehurst, who lives around the corner from the family, said they had been well-liked members of the close-knit community.

'They seemed like a really happy family, they have been living here for years, and you would just never pick something like this would happen, he told Daily Mail Australia.

I wonder if it wasn’t a mental health problem…..

“Superintendent John Nelson said the woman was known to police.

"What I can say about the mother is that she is known to us, but only for minor matters," he said.”

And poor dad, hope he has lots of support.
Senior Executive at Woolworths, will no doubt be well supported.

I’m not sure on the family situation here, article mentioned he didn’t live at the residence. Unknown if this was even the family home, and unknown if the parents had even been together at the time either.

I assume the female contacted the male to come to the property.

Bit weird this one, and incredibly sad.

New theory about Blue Mountains mum after two boys found dead

“A mother is under police guard in hospital after her two sons were found dead by their father in the Blue Mountains.

Police are investigating whether the mother of two boys found dead inside a Blue Mountains home had suffered a psychotic episode, it has been reported.

Trish Smith, 42, was arrested at the scene with a number of self-inflicted injuries and taken to Westmead Hospital.”

Would be interesting to know the kind of ward she is on.....

My heart goes out to Acting Superintendent John Nelson, of the Blue Mountains Area Command. I just worked out where I knew his name from. He was in charge of the search for dearest Charlise Mutten in the Blue Mountains in January, 2022. I am sure I saw him in court the day that Charlise’s killer was sentenced. I congratulated all of the Police as I was leaving the court, and I meant it from the bottom of my heart.

My goodness, I can’t imagine what this Superintendent has seen in his work, and now he is in charge of this double murder……. Again involving defenseless, gorgeous, little children.

Community grieving after boys found dead at Blue Mountains home

Nine-year-old Ben and his older brother Russell, aged 11, were found dead by their father at a home in Faulconbridge yesterday afternoon.

Police arrived and arrested their 42-year-old mother, Trish Smith, before she was taken to hospital with injuries they said could be self-inflicted.

While police are still trying to piece together a motiviation, the local community is grieving the loss of the brothers.

Ben had recently won an award in computer studies, while Russell had represented the school in track and field.”

Blue Mountains brothers found stabbed in bed, as police probe if pair were drugged

Police are now investigating whether two young brothers killed in their Blue Mountains home were drugged, as new details about the tragedy are revealed.

Paraphrased:

Nick contacted police after he had not had contact from his estranged wife for an “unusual” amount of time

The boys were found in their beds with multiple stab wounds, unsure if this occurred on the day they were found or the night before.

Trish who lost her job during the pandemic, started her urban farming business FarmSmith, in the family’s front yard.

She shared on her blog, the backstory of the business in 2021 & she sung the praises of a mental health toolkit she “regularly” used after receiving it at a NSW DPI Young Farmer Business Conference in 2020.

She planned to create a checklist for for herself and future employees “to maintain good mental health”.

Quotes from Trish's blog

“Psychological skills are great when things are going well, and essential during a crisis,”

“I feel really grateful that I have access to education and support to understand my mental health better, and it’s been empowering in the chaos that has been the last year, to be able to stop, bring awareness to my experience and then take steps to ensure I look after myself.

“I’m only just starting in my first growing season. My plan is to focus on what is within my control. Observe, monitor and plan. Make decisions based on my context and values. Use risk management across all aspects of the business to increase resilience. And most importantly, look after myself.”

If the children were drugged, that doesn’t seem to me to be like a psychotic episode? That seems like it was planned. IMO

Understanding my mental health

Psychological skills are great when things are going well, and essential during a crisis. I feel really grateful that I have access to education and support to understand my mental health better, and it’s been empowering in the chaos that has been the last year, to be able to stop, bring awareness to my experience and then take steps to ensure I look after myself.

Who would have thought that starting a farming business in COVID-19 times after an extended period of drought and the black summer bushfires has actually given me a newfound sense of purpose, focus, hope and wellbeing?

It has been a very difficult time for so many of us; lots of intense emotions, uncertainty and trauma. For me, it has also been empowering to realise that I have, with patience, persistence and lots of practice, developed skills that help me to recognise when my flight, fight or freeze response has been activated. This is a natural human response; it is my mind and body’s way of protecting me from a real or perceived threat.

I have been inspired by Viktor Frankl’s book ‘Man’s Search for Meaning’, especially this quote:

“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom”.

To me this means that even though a situation is stressful and really difficult, with mindfulness, I can make decisions from a place of calm. It is within my power to choose this response.
