There have been reports Ms Ristevski's phone pinged on towers on the Calder Highway and at Gisborne on the day she went missing, and data also suggested it had been turned off for two hours, however Inspector Dennis did not say if the search was related.http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/p...oolern-vale-and-gisborne-20161218-gtdv2b.html

This has changed. Previously it was Borce's phone that was said to have been switched off for two hours. And the language is cautious: "reports", "data . . . suggested".

Noticed in that video that recent roadside brushcutting has taken place. ...... wonder if something was found. .... leading them back there again.

Bugga!! I can't view the video as I'm not in Australia.. :gaah:

I find it interesting that Karen's "brother in-law" was spotted at the abandoned restaurant near the location of where they're searching! Very interesting indeed!

Pure speculation, but I think of Borce is responsible he hasn't included his brother. Probably Sarah only knows, from not being stupid about what little we know regarding the car trip and phones.

It is a lot cooler today, better conditions for searching I imagine, even with some rain,

Still find it hard to believe.... if most peoples POI is responsible alone .....why that area? That area would suggest the possibility of two peoples involvement.... would almost even implicate the second person theory..

Plenty of other secluded places between there and Avondale Heights ......even out the back of the airport where a main POI used to have a warehouse in an industrial estate..

hopefully something will come of this new search...

I dunno, that area makes sense to me, especially for a solo operation. You want to drive as far away as possible but you want to minimise the time you are missing without an alibi or can be discovered with a body in your car. On those roads you can see cars coming from a long way off. There is a lot less traffic than nearby the airport. The place where Warrant Brands was is really trafficked, that area is really busy now during the day, the new roads around the airport have lots of through traffic.

But around where they are searching you've driven about 35 minutes but it is still somewhat familiar - most people I know around here have connections with people in or around Sunbury, as a lot of people move there for cheaper housing after growing up around this way or travel in for school or work, and we know his son is in Digger's Rest. The only thing that doesn't make sense to me is why you wouldn't go into the Lerderberg State park, except for the fact I have lived here all my life and I've never been into there myself or been told by anyone they've gone there. If we drive up that way to do something we go to Gisborne, Macedon or Woodend.

Anyway the psychology of it is interesting, you are from around here and find it odd whereas I find it almost too obvious a place and so should have been avoided! Especially since it was so well publicised where Jill Meagher was left.

As far as I can tell the news article on news.com.au has two new peices of info. How do I attach a pic ?

I firmly believe it was soil samples taken from the car(s) that were sent to the US and it lead them to the areas they are searching because they matched the soil to the Jill M case. Also they mentioned that the police believe she met with foul play and her body was then hidden there. I haven't seen anything in MSM about somebody seeing BR's brother at the abandoned restaurant . Link please ?

I horse ride in the area on a regular basis. There are so many disused mines and gully's - you wouldn't really know what was out there. Its pretty tough terrain in some parts of the Lerderberg . There was a murdered young teen found in one of the old mines earlier in the year.
I am certain the police have more info then stating to have this kind of operation under way.
I hope she is found soon and can be laid to rest
When I ride - I often wonder if she is out there.

Thanks Morrisa. From that same video footage at the link you posted:

An abandoned restaurant near the site currently being searched has been searched by police in recent months, and one local has even claimed that she saw Boris Ristevski's brother at that abandoned restaurant.

I can't view the video (link below) as I'm not in Australia, but according to Makara's post (quoted above), it was mentioned in the video. Hope that helps!

Yesterday morning, a small army of different squads headed up the Calder Freeway to an area between Toolern Vale and Diggers Rest.

It is an area where bodies have been dumped in the past. Jill Meagher was found there in 2012. Earlier this year, murdered teen Cayleb Hough was found in a disused mineshaft not far away in Lerderderg State Park

Ms Ristevski’s mobile phone, as well as her husband Borce’s phone, were detected by transmitter towers in the area on the day she went missing. Mr Ristevski was interviewed by police, but has always denied any involvement.

Police are very confident they are looking in the right place to solve the mystery of Karen Ristevski.

Why would Australian soil samples be sent to the US? We have excellent forensic soil analysis specialists right here in Australia. It was mentioned in MSM a while back that the CCTV footage of Karen's car was going to be sent to the US for further examination. Conversation and links to this are in one of the previous threads.

BBM: I must have missed this. Would you post a link please?

The quote about "meeting with foul play" is in this Herald Sun infographic.
