Having read the full verdict now, I have the utmost respect for the Judge in this case.

I'm really looking forward to reading a book I purchased recently titled "One Piece Of The Puzzle" written by one of our Aussie journalists Justine Ford who is doing some invaluable work on unsolved murder cases as well as missing person cases. In the book she details some of the unsolved murders & describes how police cracked other cases..."through police work, forensic science, and help from the public".

The outstanding foreward in the book is written by Detective Superintendent Michael Willing, Homicide Squad Commander, NSW Police. He "commends this most insightful & valuable book"

Earlier tonight I had a read of Justine's facebook page & came across this extremely moving poem. I straight away thought of Lisa's mum's comments from yesterday when she said “I think what bothered me was that we're not allowed as the family of Lisa … to give Lisa a face and a voice to say 'this is who we are talking about'.”

The poem....

For me no gavel hammers,
the scales were never weighed
My crime was that of a victim,
my life was the price i paid.
And when my life was taken,
why weren't my rights read out?
And the statement, "overuled"
when they pronounced me dead.

I'll never hear my rights,
or take the witness stand.
No attorney will defend me,
my fate was in the killers hand.
Now the courtrooms crowded,
as the defendant pleads his case,
with just the glimmer of a tear,
cold eyes on a straight face.

But oh!, if i could take the stand,
if they could witness my last breath,
could they live with the terror,
that i went through in death?.
If they could hear my pleading cries
and see the hatred in that face,
at last,we'd know, the scales had
'BEEN BALANCED" in this case.

If i could tell the jury,
exactly how it was,
the fear, the pain, that i went through,
struck down without a cause.
Did the jury carefully weigh it all
as they listened to the plea?.
There were NO emotions showing now,
just the hopes of going free.

The final verdict now is in,
as the defendant stands in tears,
if only i had done as well........
given 10 to 20 years.

What a powerful message is in this poem...

A year and three days after Simon Gittany was charged with the murder of his fiancee, he posted a video on YouTube in an attempt to show the world how much they had loved each other.

The blurry iPhone video records Lisa Cecilia Harnum's 30th, and last, birthday party. The tall, willowy Canadian stands, a little awkwardly, as Gittany delivers a birthday speech to his family and friends. It culminates in a surprise marriage proposal.

"Cecilia, baby," Gittany says, kneeling and presenting her with a ring. The young woman covers her face with her hands, nods and then smothers him in a tearful embrace.

Even by the standards of YouTube, the video was a fairly transparent piece of public relations. Gittany provided his own written commentary, including a caption reading: "Tears of pure emotion run down her face as she becomes unable to control how she feels to be asked to marry Simon her night and shinning armour (sic) as she would often describe him".

Just before proposing, Gittany tells his audience he had "lost my faith in women" in part because he "couldn't find a woman that was going to serve me".

I guess another powerful message on DV is conveyed in this song from Babyface and Stevie Wonder ... Sadly, it never became much of a hit ...

This sad and chilling murder lingers in the minds of social media members and MSM are still reporting on it. Many are agast at the culture of moral corruption surrounding the convicted murderer.

SIMON GITTANY'S MOMENT OF TRUTH: THE COLD-BLOODED KILLER OF LISA HARNUM EXPECTED TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER
by AMY DALE,Crime Reporter, THE DAILY TELEGRAPH, NOVEMBER 30, 2013.

Even when Gittany was taken into custody at the conclusion of the evidence in the trial, with only the closing address and verdict to come, he took the revocation of his freedom with ease. His look was that of a man who believed he would be behind bars for less time than most people travel overseas - that within weeks, he would be returned to his accustomed lifestyle.

Ms Louise, strikingly similar in appearance to Ms Harnum, cut a glamorous figure ... and the bamboozled remarks of those who couldn't understand how a woman could hear such chilling allegations of her boyfriend's domestic violence yet continue to adore him.

Justice McCallum said "no explanation" had been offered "for what the accused did for an income".How he supported his flashy lifestyle of expensive suits and a plush city apartment was never explained, but the details may emerge in the sentencing process. The sentencing hearing is on February 5 and it is not clear yet, if on that day, when submissions will be made as to what jail term Gittany should receive, some questions not broached at this trial will be answered.

Sentencing is the next hurdle in delivering Justice. It is likely some Gittany's associates could already be incarcerated; let's hope that some of his 'high end customers' are not in positions to influence leniency in his sentencing. [In my honest opinion only].

Marly, thank you for sharing the poem. Poetry is my 'thing' and it really spoke to me, and lifted me up to see a poem on a thread, too.

I'd love to read that book, too - there's not a lot of really good Aussie crime books, and a fewer that deal with cold cases. Will be keeping my eye out for that!

Thank you so much Marley for sharing this poem. These words deliver a deeply powerful message.
The author unknown sounds very much like Lisa Harnum.

I love this picture ... our boys and girls in blue taking care of a lovely lady who finally has justice for the cruel death of her beloved daughter.
The show of strength against anyone who may want to take misplaced emotions out on Joan is formidable.

(ETA: What's with the matching outfits ... do detectives have standard-issue suits/ties for court appearances? I guess maybe they do, as being in court would be a regular thing for them.)

Hi Ausgirl - The other week member BreakingNews mentioned a book called PERFECT STRANGER by Kay Schubach, which tells of her experience getting involved in what turned out to be an abusive and dangerous relationship with Simon Lowe, who has been described as being a narcissist. Kay was interviewed only the other day (On Nine's Morning show) because of the similarities in the Simon Gittany case. It all happened in the eastern suburbs of Sydney and I read an article which suggested he is mates with Gordon Wood. What a coincidence. The book is available on Ebay and as an e-book.

Google Kay Schubach Youtube and you will find the interview. :seeya:

Sorry - Kay was interviewed the other day (on some program), but the Nine Morning show interview was in 2012. Just in case there is some confusion. In fact, she has been interviewed a number of times (at least 3 that I know of). She will be easy to find.

Like Lisa Harnum, these women were also murdered. Here is another:http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/...xe-murders-of-rebecca-wild-and-jasintaleigh-f

James Stoneham and Ms Donato had a turbulent relationship before she ended it in December 2011. "The perpetrator (Stoneham) has researched and systematically planned the slaying of my innocent and defenceless young daughter, with military precision and without any compassion," Mr Donato sad ...
Justice Croucher considered the killing of Ms Donato was a particularly serious and sinister example of murder...Adriana's father, Guiseppe (Joe), had previously urged the judge to send a clear message that violence against women would not be tolerated.

Detectives of various squads will often have their own code of dress for particular occasions, including court appearances, funerals etc. It is a sign of unity between the men and women who have worked together on a case. Sometimes it is simply a tie clip or lapel badge they wear but the message of unity it conveys is very strong.

In One Moment Killer Simon Gittany Revealed the Jealous Man Lurking Behind the Smile
Paul Bibby November 30, 2013

"... after the storm of publicity unleashed by Gittany's murder conviction this week has cleared, after the wails of his relatives ceased echoing through the halls of the Supreme Court and, after the printed revelations of his violence as a youth have yellowed in the sun, what remains is a crime of domestic violence by a man who believed that women were placed on the earth to serve him...".

At the end of the following video Lisa Cecilia Harnum is dancing and having a good time.

Yes SouthAussie, a great pic! - I notice the same tie is being worn by the man behind Josh Rathmell in this pic too.

"IT was during his routine walk to work that Joshua Rathmell looked up and became the crucial witness in the crime that stopped Sydney.

So important was his evidence that every precaution was taken to ensure the 31-year-old felt safe.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal Mr Rathmell was escorted into court by three police officers - one beside him and the others in front and behind - as he made the short walk from a car parked outside into the court. He was the only witness for whom such protection was given."

Simon Gittany's girlfriend Rachelle Louise in negotiations for television interview

Justice Lucy McCallum had barely delivered her guilty verdict against Simon Gittany on Wednesday before an all-out media stampede ensued for access to the woman who has been by the convicted killer's side throughout the trial: his aspiring actress/bikini model girlfriend, who calls herself Rachelle Louise.

By Thursday night figures upwards of $100,000 were being bandied about as chatter zeroed in on which television network had secured the exclusive interview with Louise, who appeared to solicit media attention throughout the trial, kissing Gittany on the way to court as if on cue for the waiting media pack.

Well we knew it would happen. Money for an appeal ?????

Just saw your post about RL Sleepinoz!

Reading on in the article it says if she doesn't do a deal by tomorrow she probably won't get one - end of Ratings season. Lets all hope that she holds out for more money and misses the deadline. :scared:
