Spyware's role in domestic violence

***********, the product that received such rave reviews online, was used by convicted murderer Simon Gittany to read his girlfriend Lisa Harnum's text messages, one of several forms of control and surveillance he subjected her to.
The product's website encourages potential buyers to ''get the answers you deserve''.
When Gittany learned of Ms Harnum's plan to escape the abusive relationship in July 2011, he threw her off the balcony of their 15th-floor balcony.

And the answer he deserved was jail - a lot of it.
Surveillance in the wrong hands, with the wrong intention - bringing about the wrong outcome.

Has Rachelle Louise reared her head at all?
My thoughts are that she used the money from Sunday Night to pay back her Dad and she's hiding from the Gittany's. I tend to think that she did the SN interviews just to get money back for her Dad but maybe had already stopped believing SG, but as long as he was out she played the game and up till she could recover that money.

OR maybe she's just so busy getting her law degree and. Working on his appeal that she doesn't have time to make the social pages ;) hahaha

Nope... cant find anything on her - which is good.
Looks like RL and Shapelle's front page PR campaigns went down the drain within 24hrs - along with their new careers.

On Tricia's True Crime Radio Show this week her special guest was James Fallon.

While Dr.Fallon was researching the brains of psychopaths and trying to find out why some kill and others don't he discovered that he had the brain of a psychopath.

Interesting listening to the discussion on the ways of the Psychopathic mind..
The first person that popped into my head was Simon Gittany and his upbringing - his type of manipulation and his denial.

I honestly think there's a lot of factors that cause people to become 'violent' psychopaths, as opposed to non-violent ones (and they do exist!).

My 15 yo daughter walks 2 mins to the corner shop pretty regularly. Nine times out of 10, she comes home with a story about how some man or other yelled '*advertiser censored*' to her from a passing car, or made lewd faces at her near the shop.

In every single case, the men have been of certain cultural/ethnic backgrounds. Yesterday (dressed in jeans and a sweater), she had TWO men offend her badly within 1 min of each other, one of them was driving a taxi. One scared her.

We had a long discussion about how some cultures really do not value women highly, and for others it's about not valuing women from other cultures at all. Then you have to add the factor that some men would just be a-holes, no matter where they're from. I suggested she start taking number plates down, as I'm calling the cops, every time now.

Lotta guys around here are going to get a shock, when they're charged with harassing an underage girl.

This country NEEDS a serious, well-planned and -sustained- campaign to let ALL men know that violence and harassment of women is just NOT ON.

Anyway.

I thought OMG where in the world does this happen? I am shocked this is in Australia!
Now I think I get it.....I realise my daughter lives in Bondi and the local men are all respectful to each other and the local women but she said the 'out of towners' come in at night and weekends to fight and actually throw things out car windows at the joggers and peaceful dog walkers, male and female of any age. Could this be what's happening where you are?

Thank you FigTree for this link. Interesting how Dr Fallon touched on a well known fact that mothers of psychopaths 'failed in the original empathy' for their child when they covered up for their behaviours, made excuses for them etc, so the child never got a 'reality check' on their behaviours, never learned 'empathy', never learned to take responsibility, but instead learned to manipulate the mother to cover up for them, etc. In the mother-child relationship, they had the 'power' to use mother to mediate the outside world for their own gain. So they grew up able to manipulate those with 'authority', felt no guilt, felt no remorse, and denied responsibility. The only qualifier I would add to this is that it is not just mothers, but fathers, and/or major care givers who 'failed in the original empathy' for that child, failed to teach the child something was wrong, or hurt others, etc and may have even encouraged anti-social behaviours by projection or as an extension of their own 'cognitive/emotional grievance baggage' applied to the vulnerable child. IMO we learned from MSM that some aspects possibly 'fit' with the Simon Gittany constellation of factors. IMO it is the interaction between 'nature' and 'nurture' not just the brain, genetics etc. [We know now that socialisation influences the development of neurological pathways in the brain].

Letting the Police know of harassment on the street is effective. I think if more Police are informed and given rego numbers, even at the time if nothing is done, eventually they will notice a pattern of offender vehicles and have a better picture to assess whats happening out there on the streets.

I worked Night Street Outreach for many years (90's) and was a Liason Officer Educator (for 2 years) in some pretty scary places - Kings Cross, Cabramatta, Bankstown, Woolongong, Newcastle - where harassment was common for the homeless and women - so was rape, assault and sometimes abduction and even death - it was rare to hear of the terrible things that happened back then in msm until the same offenders started doing it to the general public.

This type of harassment doesn't stop, it gets louder, more offensive and can be violent. The offender becomes more brazen - because they know there are little to NO consequences and their tactics of intimidation scares people - they are like wolves in a pack. What they are doing has usually been going on for sometime - they start by preying on those who don't have the means and the resources to report it without fear of retribution from the offender - or fear themselves of the Police, so it doesn't get reported . But, noticing the Rego numbers and car ID among street people is a common occurrence, and street wise safety.
This type of harassment by some offending men (and gangs) does not stop - it gets worse - until an innocent person is hurt - seriously hurt.

Mantra: Take notice - Take Numbers - Take Action and Report it.

It just might save one girl from being hurt, and catch those offenders who think nobody is watching them.

Kudos for you and your daughter for discussing it - its really important, and posting it here too.

Agreed.
Things could have changed under the right circumstances if the denial by many had been confronted by a few.
When I listened to the that part regarding parents my thoughts went back to the parade of placards - it was an affront to any rehabilitation for any of them - and just reinforced SG's sense of righteousness.
So the circle just keeps turning ...

:seeya:

Maybe from the Placards we can work out just what RL was going on about ...and possibly what the SG Appeal will be about...

BBM. Agree: "...the parade of placards - was an affront to any rehabilitation for any of them - and just reinforced SG's sense of righteousness. So the circle just keeps turning...."

IMO it demonstrated a 'self-reinforcing' culture which perpetuates anti-social attitudes which was not missed by Justice McCallum - fortunately.

Jealousy, a sense of entitlement and insecurity is what drives people to commit murder MAY 07, 2014 12:02PM

"A STRONG sense of jealousy, a sense of entitlement and insecurity — these are the attributes found in people who kill. And it’s usually someone you know...It’s not necessarily cold comfort but it’s reality,’’ said Criminologist Professor Paul Mazerolle. Prof Mazerolle recently led a conference at Queensland’s Griffith University where criminologists from Australia and around the world delved into the reasons why people commit murder.

"The 2011 murder of Lisa Harnum by her partner Simon Gittany, where she was thrown over an apartment balcony and fell 15 floors to her death, was a tragic example. “Take that situation, the angry outburst, the insecure attachment … I think the pictures in the elevator were quite telling.”...

I can't find a thread for Robert Xie Trial - Lin Family Murders 2009 (5 members of one family). I would have thought there was one, if anyone can find one let me know - TIA

The girlfriend of convicted murderer Simon Gittany has turned up to observe day 1 of murder trial of Robert Xie. #EyewitnessNews #xietrial

Hmmm... I wonder what that's about.
Part of her legal studies?
Or just being a nosey parker.

Just my opinion...
MSN Nine News 8th May 2014
Justice Johnson said Mark Tedeschi QC will open the crown case on Friday morning.
I don't put anything past this woman...
I think she's watching how the Crown works - Mark Tedeschi in particular
Stalking... and fishing ...
I wonder if she will be spotted again during this trial.
She's up to no good me thinks - for her part in SG's Appeal.
