I pretty much crossed off my list of cases the murder of Jennifer Fairgate (Fergate) in the Oslo Plaza Hotel in June 1995 despite its probable Belgium/Luxembourg connections. But after listening to MC mention Mafia style gangs her execution style murder does make you wonder.
I haven't crossed anything off my list as far as RB is concerned. Nothing would surprise me now!

Probably an old summary for many here but new for me, I’ve been having a look through Trove and it’s a coincidence that whoever placed the ad below is similar in age to what AH would have been in 1972. After delving a lot into Trove I’ve noticed that with many personal ads placed over the years (looking for a companion and mainly in Le Courrier Australien), there are ads where the poster is aged around the same as AH would have been. It is no wonder that criminals LOVE the country down under.

If you look at the NSW legislation of 3 name changes and then the QLD legislation, it is very easy to see how he got away with the name changes over the decades!

Here is the legislation in Queensland - and given that AH seems to have property/ properties/ AND friends who own real estate agencies in QLD, it is easy to see just how he gets away with all the aliases over the years!

The Aust Government should hang its head in shame. Every Department in Government should be made accountable for their appalling procedures that are suppose to protect people from predators like AH.

Appalling! Shame on Australian government! Well researched Misshy

Totally agree with all you say Mishy

Identity theft and fraud is so much harder nowadays but the whole point is that off the back of a stolen wallet or someone's stolen mail, one could begin to scaffold the pieces of an identity that would be sufficient for different purposes and then those items can add up to creating greater documents and before you know it you've got an entirely false persona, most especially if some are doctored such as say a birth certificate.

AUSTRALIA - THE LAND OF FREEDOM FOR CRIMINALS
Because a fraudster is going to think ‘oh dear I’m not allowed to apply as I’m a fraudster’!

Having to give a reason for the name change. I would love to see all of these. ‘Should I wish to poison someone keeping the same surname is a tad inconvenient and against my human rights’

What about the countries he visited that didn’t realise just how easy it is to hoodwink Government Agencies in Australia. Allowing him to change his name so often made it impossible for overseas agencies to track him. Not that some of them come out smelling of roses.

If Sally achieves nothing else I do hope there will a Public Enquiry in Australia looking at just how easy it is for a known criminal to carry out decades of serious crime (including across the World) and be assisted in that endeavour by making it so easy to ‘officially’ change identity numerous times. There doesn’t appear to have been a single red flag.

Exactly, not even within Border Control/ ASIO/ Federal police when their written documents going back and forth to each other over the years went absolutely nowhere. The same thing happened in the IK case. The NSW banking system and NSW and QLD Police force. Paper pushers not doing their job and a system riddled with holes. It's a criminals paradise here.
Didn't he infer at the inquest that Australia and Italy were dumbasses - laughing at the legislation of the very country that kept his game alive for decades.

I recall whenever he was asked why all the name changes at the Inquest, his default answer was 'because it is legal to do so...' as if by some logic distortion this means that because a person has the lawful right to change their name they *should*.

But also, it wasn't always lawful for him to do so was it if he was providing other false documents to scaffold a fake identity?

He was referring to Australians and their knowledge, or lack of it, of European coins.

I have a feeling that in general he thought that being from Europe he was a cut above Australians.

To use an old expression he had "tickets on himself"

Definition of 'have tickets on oneself'

have tickets on oneself in British English
or have got tickets on oneself
Australian informal
to be conceited

LOL I know this saying as I used to share with Oz and Kiwi housemates but here in the UK it's not a saying, it's a good one tho!

Listening at his appearance at the 1st inquest I had the feeling his opinion of Australians was almost on a par with his opinion of his female victims.

Wouldn’t it be interesting to see all of the official forms he has filled out over the decades, especially his response to the reason why he wants his name changed each time. An open and shut case for a perjury, I think.

It is astonishing the amount of information the authorities had on him back in the early 80’s but yet he still managed to carry on going in and out of the country at will and changing his name multiple times!

Appalling. The Australian Government needs to completely overhaul every system they have in place.
And then heavily compensate every victim related to this case, because it was their own policies that allowed this to go on for as long as it has.
