Makara, you are on a role tonight! I must have totally missed the owners of the Oaks Hotel.

I'm still looking for that bloody link! :banghead: I know I read it somewhere!

I've just found this link http://www.gourmantic.com/2013/08/09/the-oaks-neutral-bay/ stating who the owner of the Oaks Hotel is. Third generation owner apparently. Scroll down to the bottom of the page. I can't post anything from that site due to their copyright stipulations.

the night i was almost killed id been home for 2 days after living in a refuge for 3 months i decided i wasnt going to let this person continue to rule my life my child had to go and live with my parents so she was safe i went home and sat and waited on the second day i went into the police station i told the policewoman you need to change my avo hes coming for me at midday she chuckled typed up a statement saying what do you think hes going to do i said come to my home smash my windows climb in and kill me she typed it up then handed me the paperwork and said take this to the court on monday i said huni i wont be alive on monday threw the documents on her desk and left sure enough that night at 930pm he came smashed my windows and climbed in and tried to kill me i was lucky the police came quickly i was lucky so many turned up unfotunately morgan wasnt so lucky deep down you just know he should never have let this person in the door

MSM reported that the Oaks Hotel is owned by JO's family, or her mother Paula Duncan's side of the family. Wasn't it JO who said that she felt the killer was a woman?

So are the Duncan's and the Thomas' related?

your sort of all missing the point havent you ever bonked someone realised it was a big mistake and then tried to get rid of them well those people are not normal ive been stalked almost killed been put in the hospital under a general anethestic to have facial bones recontructed so what else do i have to say to explain it

You are right sundaymorning123 ... Morgan should never have been attacked and killed like that. And yes, I agree that someone was probably stalking him because he slept with them and didn't want a long-term relationship with them, and they wanted more. We do need to be careful who we sleep with - I guess it is just hard to tell a crackpot sometimes when they come in a pretty package.

It is very sad, absolutely tragic in fact :(

Neutral Bay hotel The Oaks undergoes a $4m revamp to attract younger, savvier crowd

Owner and third generation publican Andrew Thomas.....
The pub is owned and run by the Thomas family, who purchased it 40 years ago

Thanks Strangeworld. I hate the Daily Telegraph site and their stupid pay wall! :banghead: I have no idea if JO's family is connected to the Thomas family in any way. Leave it with me.

About 2 weeks ago I posted that JO would most likely have known MH for so long because her mother's family either owned or managed that hotel. I think they managed it. Don't know if they still do but they certainly did back when Paula and Carmen Duncan were in their heyday as actresses here. My aunt taught Carmen when she was a boarder at a Catholic girl's school in Strathfield and Moss Vale.

Oh thank you LB! I've been sitting here for hours trying to find where I'd read that info. I'd deduced that Paula's family were more probably the managers of the pub and not the owners.

You've saved my sanity! Thank you.

Was looking on there last night, and thought the same thing as you .. no posts when Morgan was killed. No 'condolences to our good mate & patron's family upon his untimely loss'. Nothing?!

Maybe he wasn't their good mate? And from a business point of view, would you want any MORE publicity about him having his last beer at your establishment before being murdered? I expect that's why their FB was quiet for a while, MSM were doing a spectacular job of publicising the place.:twocents:

This prompted me to start googling stuff related to DNA profiling, and in particular what happens when there is a mixture of DNA in one sample - since it's highly likely that if Morgan's killer bled at the scene, her blood might be mixed with his.

I have a long way to go yet to fully understanding the process, but my initial reading suggests that where there is a mixture, you can definitely eliminate a suspect, but you cannot conclusively include a suspect based on the mixed sample. And even then, it seems this only possible if you have a clean sample from your suspects.

I'm reading info dated from 2011 at this stage, not sure yet if there have been any further advances since then.

Another thing I remember from watching true crime docos is that when there is a sample of the offender's DNA from the crime scene but it is too small to be able to do a DNA profile with, they need to increase the size of the sample using a technique called PCR, where they "amplify" the size of a sample by making it replicate in a test-tube. The docos I watched were a few years old, but I remember they said that the process is very time consuming - I can't remember, but I think it ran into weeks to obtain a sample big enough to get a good reliable DNA profile, and it's a very error prone process as contamination can occur and multiply a 'dirty' sample. This info may be outdated now, I'm trying to find more up to date information that may say how long it actually takes these days.

So maybe more reasons for the time it's taking...?

Does anyone out there know much in this area who might be able to share some knowledge with us?

Thank you for the Intersting information regarding running lab DNA tests...

Of particular interest to me was that replicating minute amounts of DNA by "growing" it in test tubes is necessary when the gathered sample is too small to make a viable profile...

JMO...

figtree raised this question some time ago im very keen to know the answer does anyone know if morgan was involved with a female who may have been engaged say around 4 mths ago maybe to another man or was morgan engaged to anyone around 4 mths ago???

Interesting question, Sundaymorning?

could you expand on this?

TIA...:seeya:

A rather strange post from the Oaks Hotel on 24 September, especially in view of what had recently happened to Morgan Huxley, one of their regulars. The two replies are equally insensitive IMO.

I only see something about Hump Day...

Could you paraphrase the comments?

TIA...:seeya:

ETA... September 24th wasn't Wednesday/Hump Day... September 24th was a Tuesday... Hmmm?

ETA 2... Sticky Date Pudding... Hmmmm?

It's there, in the left hand column. References to the psycho movie.

:grouphug: Sundaymorning...

maybe morgan wasnt able to get up and call for help because maybe the person that did this didnt leave his room straight away maybe they stayed a while in the room while he was dying maybe if he tried to get up they tried to stop him just a thought it seems like they didnt want him alive maybe if he tried to get up they kept stabbing to stop him 28 times is alot of times maybe they were afraid if he survived he could id them i think thats the reason anyone else think that could be a possibility

Yes, I guess there are a few ways of looking at it. I would probably have put something respectful on the FB page as Morgan was a long-time regular (5 years) and the media were mentioning The Oaks a lot - but maybe they just decided to lay low and wait for the furor to die down and the funeral to be over before they resumed normal posting.

Odd that they put up the 'psycho' post, and not a condolence note (at the time) though? Unless they thought the 'psycho' post would somehow fly under the radar.
