Melburnians race to coast, including Phillip Island to escape restrictions

A mass exodus of Melburnians have raced out of the city and fled to Victoria's coast in a last-minute scramble to escape stage three lockdown restrictions before midnight.
Video obtained by 9News shows an onslaught of traffic piling on to regional highways, including the Bass Highway near Phillip Island, as Melburnians attempt to dodge the COVID-19 stay-at-home restrictions
Phillip Island local Amelia Trappet described the number of holidaymakers and traffic as "terrifying", fearing the virus could spread through the regional community.
"It's like Christmas holidays, it's extremely concerning,"

Fears of a new coronavirus contagion are growing in Western Australia after new cases in NSW and the ACT were linked to Victoria's ongoing outbreak.
In the past week, 50 interstate flights have touched down in Perth, 17 of them from Melbourne.
The Australian Medical Association said the risk of a second wave in Western Australia was "inevitable" if potential spreaders came to the state during the open Phase Four restrictions.

be good to ask him the same question today be interesting to hear his reply.
but for context i have quoted the entire statement pertaining to this question from over a week ago out of your link above.
QUESTION:

Of the cases that have come out of Victoria over the past week, do you have an indication if any of those cases were linked to the protest? Whether they were [indistinct] the protest, or whether people who went to the protest tested positive? And do you know how people— you're finding out whether people were at the protest, whether they're asked if they, after they were— after they test positive, when they're being tested, what's the— is there a protocol around that?

PROFESSOR PAUL KELLY:

So, there is no evidence that there was— has been any spread from the Black Lives Matter protest. That doesn't preclude the important message: this is not a time to be having mass protests, particularly in Melbourne. The risk of— the fact that we haven't found any more cases from those protests doesn't prove that the protests are safe. And just to be clear, it's not just protests, it's any mass gathering. And so there are very clear and strong restrictions on mass gatherings that are part of this process that's being worked through for those hotspots.

I have linked a report from the week before. june 21.

Sky News can reveal that the number of COVID-19 cases linked to the Melbourne’s Black Lives matter protests a fortnight ago have risen to five.
“We already knew that three protesters have tested positive to the virus but now we understand two cases identified today were linked to one of the protesters at the rally,” Mr Clennell said. “There have been reports one protester at the rallies worked at a H&M store for two days while ill.”

all comes down to the week ahead developing . following the numbers its not hard to do the math.

moo its hard to believe that mass crowds of protesters weeks ago have absolutely nothing to do with the now surging covid cases.
defies logic.

imo

One of the protestors was found to be a false positive (I’ll try to find a link for that later- othwise I’ll delete). I would think that if the current outbreaks were linked to the protests the media would be alllll over it. I haven’t seen anything. Sky News isn’t particularly authoritative and posts inflammatory false news regularly.

Of the total 3,098 cases, 2,723 are from metropolitan Melbourne, while 270 are from regional Victoria. There are now 159 cases linked with public housing towers in Flemington and North Melbourne which since Saturday have been under a strict police-enforced lockdown with residents unable to leave the building even for work, groceries or exercise.

Late on Thursday afternoon the premier Daniel Andrews announced all of the towers except Alfred Street in North Melbourne would move to the same restrictions as the rest Metropolitan Melbourne from midnight, meaning they would be allowed out to access essential services and for work, study, exercise and childcare. However, anyone with the virus will be required to isolate inside their home regardless. All residents of the nine towers subject to the Saturday lockdown have now been offered tests.
Two towers that were under lockdown, on Pampas Street and Melrose Street in North Melbourne, recorded no cases. Andrews said the Alfred Street tower would remain under the strict police-enforced lockdown because “that has very substantial numbers of cases, and potentially close contacts right throughout that tower”.

hope your right woolly.
the relevance of protesting has been marred by the irresponsibility and/or ignorance of desperate people in desperate times.
in these unknown waters it simply has to play a part in the upturn though.

your right about false news.
however word out of a politicians mouth doesn't hold much truth for me either.

we just wading through the weeds having to join the dots for ourselves.o_O

First public hearing into Vic's hotel quarantine bungle to be held on July 20

The first public hearing into Victoria's hotel quarantine system will be held on July 20.

The inquiry will investigate multiple breaches of the state's hotel quarantine system in two hotels.

However the inquiry has been criticised, with Liberal MP Andrew Wallace saying it will unlikely uncover anything of substance because it does not have the power to compel testimony.

“There’s no powers of compulsion… someone who’s called to give evidence could simply argue they don’t want to answer questions on the grounds they may incriminate themselves,” he told Sky News.

The crucial mistakes that left millions of Melburnians in a second lockdown

On June 1 restrictions were eased in Victoria. Exactly two weeks later, daily infection numbers climbed back into the double digits, and continued to grow.

But while it seems the virus was able to spread quickly among and between families, that doesn't appear to be where the first match was struck.

The spark that started a blaze
The first case of a security guard working in a quarantine hotel being infected was reported on May 27, at a similar time to the first family outbreaks being identified.

From there, infections spiralled to the point where at least 60 cases have now been linked to clusters at two hotels in Melbourne.

NSW Police said Snr Cst Murray would continue to care for Ted for at least another 18 months until he was old enough to return to his natural habitat.
And it appears Snr Cst Murray’s colleagues are more than happy to have Ted around.

selfish fools and you wonder why!

Four men caught stowing away on a freight train out of Victoria bound for Perth.
South Australian police were called when the four men were seen by the driver when the train stopped at Adelaide Freight Terminal at Regency Park yesterday morning.
There are road checkpoints at all border thoroughfares into South Australia, as well as police patrolling airports and other transport terminals.
Train stowaways avoid serious penalty for border breach

Wow, this is horrid.
Who would have thought, after a couple of cases in a pub, and now this.:(:(:(

Health authorities are warning the risk of coronavirus transmission is much higher in New South Wales than in Victoria.

The reproduction rate sits at 1 in Victoria but in NSW it has reached 1.4.

COVID-19 cases have been rising across the state after 15 new infections were recorded overnight with five remaining under investigation.
A cluster at a South West Sydney pub has risen to 45 while cases have been linked to a gym, a Thai restaurant and church.
