Good thinking Fig!

But if you took out a lace to use for something else why would you then discard it? Or maybe he simply lost it?

I find this shoelace quite mysterious!

I also find it astonishing that it was found. A black shoelace doesn't exactly catch the eye I would think. A water bottle, yes, but a black string? Did it say in the video where it was found?

I think (from marlywings post above) it was found near Blue Lake.
I wonder if it was meant as a pointer to the direction he was travelling? Maybe it got moved somehow and wasnt obvious?

Blue Lake, Kosciuszko National Park, NSW
Main Range Walk to Blue Lake and Charlottes Pass

The thing is - why would Prabhs water bottle (and shoelace) be discarded/lost at such an early point on the walk. He was headed in a round trip further onto Mt Kosciuszko and then back to Charlottes Pass.

Was the sighting (of what one person saw as foot/shoeprints) on the Main Range Track before or after Blue Lake?

It is 1hr 19 minutes from Charlottes Pass to Blue Lake (walking).

.

well we can assume it is his water bottle seeing he had a connection to cairns and scuba diving. Can't imagine there would be two people out there at the same time with such a connection. It is strange that they were found so early into the walk.

Wonder if Prabh realized he'd lost his water bottle after visiting Blue Lake and went back to look for it and got lost? - went off the track - or thought he dropped somewhere he didn't.
Still havent figured out the shoe lace - unless he had it tied to his water bottle on his belt and the lace was found with/near the bottle. It may not have been from his new shoes at all.

Superintendant Rod Smith, from the Monaro Local Area Command, says crews have been scouring the Kosciuszko National Park since Christmas.
“We've had our police and search crews on the ground up there over the last week and that will continue,” he said.
“Hopefully all those snow drifts will disappear before it gets cold again, which will enable us to really complete the entire area.
“But at this stage it's just day by day just covering those areas.”

Still snow around :(
Hope the next few weeks see's the sun out a bit more.
Glad to hear the Police and search crew are out while they have this window of snow thaw.
Lets hope they find something.

.

Great news the search is still ongoing!! Some reports indicate there's not a lot of snow still around so hopefully with the warmer temps & sunny days expected next week it will make it easier.

The track to Mt Kosciuszko is now clear of snow but there are a couple of patches close to the track

Thanks marlywings.
There are some live cams here for Threadbo - there are a few more but they are currently offline, so cant see anything.

New article about the search and the family asking for help ...

The Canberra Times Australia - 14th Jan 2014. Read Full Article...
Family reach out for help to find Prabh Srawn
The family of missing Canadian bushwalker Prabhdeep Srawn have reached out to the public to help fund their ongoing search efforts, in the hope of finding their son and brother.
-----
The search for Mr Srawn is scheduled to begin again in February or March, privately funded by the Srawn family who have already spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on the hunt.
-----
Ms Srawn said the family was waiting to hear back from emergency services, who had said the search could possibly begin again in three or four weeks.
-----
Meanwhile, she said Mr Colwell would be returning with a team of 20 to 30 people later in summer to continue the search and some of the volunteers were becoming emotionally invested in the search.
-----
Ms Srawn said this had been the hardest time of their lives for the family.

Family of missing Indo-Canadian man appeals for funds

New searches commencing in 3-4 weeks is good news.
Also, good to hear that the Canadian Team is coming back and bringing others with them as well - 10 more sets of specialist eyes on the ground will make a difference, and I think the second attempt would make their search more effective now some of the crew have become familiar with the terrain.

It was 28 degrees Celcius (82 degrees Fahrenheit) today - hope that the last of the snow has gone.

It is Australia Day long weekend coming up - hoping there are a few more hikers in the Snowy Mountains that can keep there eyes out for anything to do with Prabh. Hope there are still Posters around in the area too.

Keeping the family and the searchers in my thoughts.

There is always hope!
Today I was in a coffee shop reading the newspaper and came across an article which lifted my hopes for Prabh and his family.
I don't have a url address at the moment but will get one on the thread later.
Missing man survived for 32 days on wild Fruit and mussels.
Stephen Currie had been missing in the Queensland outback. He had become disoriented in the bushland scrub and wandered off from his caravan.

Here is the article I saw - regarding Stephen Currie returning after 32 days (sorry - ran out of time to be able to edit the post above and add link)

Brisbane Times - Read More:
‘‘It is a definite story of survival.
‘‘We’ve seen a few of these in the last few years and I guess to a lot of police who are involved in these searches we always try to maintain that the person will be found. In this case it was proved correct again, eventually.’’

Hope for Prabh.

Thanks for all the info FigTree!
Yes, there is always hope and I am hoping Prabhdeep is reunited with his family soon!

:bump: for Prahb

It would be nice to see some more Main Stream Media out there to remind people that Prabh is still missing and people have not given up on finding him.

Was just logging in after a very long hiatus from the forums to see how or if things had progressed over the summer months for Prabhdeep's family. Dissapointing to see a non result still at thus stage - hopefully soon. Until then, I was going to bump the thread and keep in the front of people's minds, but it appears the dedication of others in this thread has stayed on the case - good stuff :)

I just got back from climbing Everest btw - had planned to do the last few of my training hikes in the lead up out in this area, but time ran short with Christmas etc clashing with my departure for Nepal/Climb Start schedule date. What I can say from the experience though is, weather changes very rapidly up there and coupled with the steep terrain and lack of shelter, it can be a fine line for the unprepared. Not relevant to this case but worth mentioning - Altitude and a increasing lack of O2 as the air thins around 10,000+ is a real game changer. Had some very interesting experiences over there that made me very thankful for my Military Aviation background and knowledge of hypoxia etc. Others weren't so fortunate.

Welcome back to the forum and thanks for sharing your experiences and expertise!

I hope there is a lot of info for hikers to be on the look out.

Its getting on into late Summer now - I wonder if we will hear news soon about further searches resuming from the Australian and/or Canadian teams. Its been incredibly dry this Summer, and very hot in most parts of Australia - I hope people are still on the look out.

.

:bump: for Prabhdeep.

Mandeep, if you are still on here, how are the searches going?
When is the team from Canada expected to arrive in Australia again for their second search?
Are searches still happening?
Is there any further news?

Thank-you so much.

My thoughts are with the family and friends of Prabhdeep Srawn on their quest to find their loved one.

Police say the remaining snow drifts in the New South Wales Kosciuszko National Park have now melted, leaving them a small window of time to search for a missing Canadian hiker.
-----
“We have that set in plan for this month and we will have that completed by the end of March, depending of course on we're still in the hands of the weather and also what other competing interests happen with our resources such as our dogs and helicopter.”

-----

Thanks for the link mikkismom - I have been waiting to see some news on any of the new searches.
March brings the search into its 10th month since Prabh disappeared - and I really hope that the last areas that the Police are looking at find some answers.
This mystery needs a conclusion.
Wishing the searchers lots of luck.

Prayers for the family and friends of Prabh.
Bring him home.
:please:
