Australia - Russell Hill & Carol Clay Murdered While Camping - Wonnangatta Valley, 2020 #8

A few of my personal observations from the case.
1. Victoria Police were pretty woeful in their investigations, surveillance and interview techniques. Allowing Lynn the opportunity to go back to the bodies and destroy them when he was a suspect is very poor policing in my view.
2. Lynn has been found guilty of one murder and now all of a sudden there is talk of re-opening an investigation into the death of his first wife. Why has it taken until now to potentially re-open an investigation into the death of his first wife? What has Victoria Police been waiting for?
3. It is now blatantly obvious to all that 60 minutes etc is used by police to assist in finding killers etc. Not good going forward.
Not every aspect of the investigation was perfect but woeful?
Lynn committed his crimes out in the wilderness, there were no living witnesses, offender & victims weren’t really known to each other, evidence was destroyed and Lynn had a head start, making it a very complex crime to solve.
At the end of the day Lynn will be put away for a very long time and the Hill and Clay families have answers, the cops did a pretty damn good job IMO.

Police methodology becomes public knowledge from time to time especially in high profile cases and I doubt the 60 Minutes sting will be a huge deal in crime fighting land. The “Mr Big Sting” used in the Daniel Morcombe case was well publicised in the media, books were written about it and true crime documentaries made. This sting has been used successfully since, despite the widespread coverage. Other methods used by police such as phone intercepts, listening devices in homes etc are out in the public domain yet people are caught out by these tools all the time.

Do you have a link to the whirlpool forum @TootsieFootsie? I can’t seem to find it.

I'm not sure, but you might need to register to read the forum.

There is a section called In the News. I'm not sure if it's still the same but before this section appeared you had to have made 20 posts. It might be different now.
I did a whole bunch of "oh yes I agree" posts, didn't take long to get to 20 :)

The thread there is called "disappearance of missing campers

Viagra can cause an enlarged penis. And is painful.
She said she did not know the specifics of his condition, he was taken to hospital was a “very enlarged penis”.
“It wouldn’t go down, and that was part of the depression, actually,” Mrs Hill said.

Perhaps RH had used Viagra when he was taken to the hospital but hadn't disclosed it to his wife?

It doesn't appear her rank has changed, in fact she may have gone up a rank as she was listed as a Detective Leading Senior Constable in one of the articles yesterday. I did notice she was described as "formerly of the missing persons squad" however she may have moved to a different area of interest. She's worked in a few different units including SOCIT (Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team).
Nah it did

Does anyone know if the tailgate opens up or down on the 1997 Nissan Patrol?
I've searched but still don't know.

It’s now 400 posts and 6 months membership, or 200 posts and 1 year membership!

With respect to all, I'm over the continued Viagra conversation, (imho) in the scheme of things it's somewhat disrespectful to focus on this element, especially in the context of the despicable murder & demolition of two innocent campers - Carol Clay & Russell Hill by the now convicted murderer.
In the words of Robyn Hill, “I hope he has a lovely time in jail.” & I'd add - a long, long time.

I've been camping many times, when I think about the sheer terror & horror of what Carol Clay & Russell Hill endured I'm shaken to the core.

My thoughts remain with the Clay & Hill families. I wish them strength, no matter what actions the now convicted murderer takes in the future.

MOO

Geez, it sounds as if the jury was not going to be allowed to make a decision based on what happened. If the Crown hadn't taken Croucher's pre-trial decisions to appeal. (No wonder Croucher seemed so grumpy.)

Eg:
one death happening right after the other
the remains being destroyed

One thing is for sure, for those people who have said that Russell had 'hunting experience' .... "Neither Mr Hill nor Mrs Clay were licensed or known to have any experience or interest in firearms".

Understand and respect your thoughts MIG, I’m sure I could speak on behalf of the majority of posters and that would be first and foremost of their sincere consideration of Carol and Russell’s tragic demise. Elements have to be explored.

Maybe it just means they captured the audio part of the 60 minute story, plus GL and his wife talking.

If an LD had been installed in the house, it would capture everything until the device had been removed. It could have been there for months. LE were hoping they'd watch the show and that it might generate interesting conversation, but they couldn't know that they would watch it. He never told his wife that it was his car, but she said it looked just like his and laughed. Maybe they thought it might cause a fight. IDK.

No what I meant was that LE didn't need vision to know they watched the programme, because their listening device picked up the audio from the TV show and them talking about it.

I was telling myself that maybe recording vision wasn't always needed. It was enough to hear the reaction to the show.
