Mum found dead in garage after ‘assault’

‘A MOTHER-of-three found dead inside her garage on Victoria’s Phillip Island suffered “assault injuries”, with detectives investigating whether someone tampered with the crime scene.

Samantha Fraser, 38, was dead inside her garage on Seagrove Way in Cowes on Monday [23 July 2018] when police visited to check on her after she failed to pick up her two daughters and son from school.’

‘A post-mortem found “she had suffered assault injuries”, Mr Sheahan said.

A 42-year-old man from Paynesville, in the state’s Gippsland region, who knew Ms Fraser has been interviewed and released without charge.’

‘Detectives are looking at whether there was any interference with the crime scene, and have already spoken with a number of people.

Ms Fraser had dropped her children at primary school, had coffee with friends but failed to attend an appointment at midday, Mr Sheahan said.’

‘Anyone with information on her movements between 11am and 3.30pm on Monday, or with dashcam or CCTV footage from around the street, have been urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Detectives want to speak to anyone who may have been seen entering the Seagrove Way property the day she died.’

It is right to feel horrified by this death toll. It must stop

Another day, another slew of stories about women who have been killed. We know these women probably died terrifying deaths. We know in the three cases where charges have been laid, the accused men had been their husbands or partners...

Yes and on any news site comments sections are big cries from men (and some women) about women's domestic violence to men, but the bodies of men are not piling up. No men are being abducted and kept as their private sex slave. No children are being raped and murdered by women. But they keep up with the 'hidden' women are violent too, claim.

Ex-husband's DNA all over Samantha Fraser crime scene, court told

Police found the DNA of Samantha Fraser’s ex-husband on her body and objects at the scene of her death, a court has heard.

Investigators also spoke to an associate of Adrian Basham who said he failed to show up for a pre-arranged motorcycle ride in Phillip Island on Monday, July 23, the morning of Ms Fraser's death.
...
Mr Basham, who was arrested on Thursday morning, was fighting a police application to give a DNA sample as part of the murder probe, as well as trying to get a suppression order on the charges he faces and his identity.

Police also told the court a motorcycle similar to the one owned by Mr Basham was seen in the Cowes area early on the morning of Ms Fraser's death. The same motorcycle was seen leaving Cowes and returning to nearby San Remo after midday.

A phone used by Mr Basham, but registered in a false name, was detected in the Cowes area on the same day, police said, and Mr Basham had accommodation at San Remo the night before.

It seems the aptly named Mr Basham is quite the coward, when it comes to him.

I hate how articles are behind paywalls, I'd really like to read this.

it's extremely frustrating that many refuse to see what's in front of their noses and instead deflect to 'it happens to men too' or 'Not all men', some have a total lack of empathy towards the women and children whose lives are taken. Men may also be dying but not at the hands of women and there's a big difference between suicide and murder.

Great article.
Will add the following, from it:

Judge Hinchey found approximately one-third of family violence homicides involved previously known family violence, including Rowley’s murder, yet there was no review of her case.

We know Samantha was frightened, and how many others, where partners are going to trial,
have experienced this.:(

Another few women who died as a result of family violence in Victoria are mentioned in this article:

Joy Rowley's murder leads coroner to call for widespread review of family violence-related deaths - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

From this article:
Mulhall was not charged over a serious assault in February 2011 when he'd choked Ms Rowley and threatened her with a knife after she had asked him to leave her house.

"I remember waking up as I was being choked," Ms Rowley told police after Mulhall attacked her.

"I remember Jimmy was yelling at me 'I'm going to kill you, you , you're dead'.

He was not charged, over this!:(:(
These women live in fear, and in this case, 'too late', when charged.

There is a strong correlation between strangulation in incidents of domestic violence and future homicide:

‘Strangulation is one of the most common and most lethal forms of domestic violence, and has been described as the ‘ultimate form of power and control’. It is an act that is highly predictive of future homicide: one study has found that the odds of future homicide were increased by 800% for victims previously strangled by their partners.’

Police should know this.

...lawyers successfuly had serious charges against Mr Basham - some involving Ms Fraser - suppressed on the grounds he feared for his life.

Yep
Let's keep protecting these cowards. So much time, energy and resources spent protecting MURDERERS! What about protecting these women BEFORE they're MURDERED!
