When contacted yesterday, Det Insp Jubelin said he was unable to comment on persons of interest in the case.

He also refused to be drawn on any possible link between GAPA and the alleged paedophile ring.

A source within the strike force, however, said "what gets uncovered in this kind of investigation is the type of thing you saw yesterday with Bickford".

"When a child goes missing, things flush out from deep down," the source said.

What exactly is the type of thing we saw yesterday?
What is the breach?

I'm wondering the same Soso. What was the breach?
Wish something would be flushed out about poor William.

Given both AJ and PB pleaded guilty then it seems the incidents did indeed occur.

Both AJ and PB pleaded guilty to touching their young victims on their genital areas. More serious charges, including child rape, were dropped against Jones.

How long does it take to investigate this type of crime ... days, weeks, months even years in some cases I guess.

How deep do investigators dig?
Very deep if a 3 year old child is missing in the area.

Police would certainly have been aware of both of these blokes and the alleged charges before FACS and detectives began investigating BS about his treatment of children in early December 2014. IMO.

The mother who wants her child back said she was informed by FACs in December it was investigating Mr Spedding but would not tell her why.
The same month Port Macquarie detectives tried to contact her, she said, adding that she was horrified when she saw news reports of police searching the Speddings’ home.

I am just a little dismayed at the gall of PB questioning police strategy given he has been named as a POI.

I am interested to know what his alibi was between 10am and 11am on the day William disappeared.
I don't recall having seen that.
Yes, where was PB that morning?

Tyrrell POI back before court
EXCLUSIVE: The Saturday Telegraph can reveal Paul John Bickford — the former president of grandparent support group GAPA (Grandparents As Parents Again) — allegedly breached court orders imposed on him over child sex offences.

William Tyrrell POI Paul Bickford to front local court over 'breach of reporting conditions' for child sex offences
January 19, 2016

A CONVICTED paedophile questioned by detectives investigating the William Tyrrell disappearance on the state’s mid north coast will front court again later this month after allegedly breaching his reporting conditions.

It can be revealed Paul John Bickford — the former president of grandparent support group GAPA (Grandparents As Parents Again) — allegedly breached court orders imposed on him over child sex offences around the same time he was photographed by The Daily Telegraph visiting his wife’s home in Port Macquarie in September.

Bickford pleaded guilty to indecently assaulting an 11-year-old girl who suffers from Asperger’s syndrome during a drive to the shops to buy her lollies.

Nan and pop pain over carer allowance threat

Port Macquarie-based Grandparents as Parents Again (GAPA) president Paul Bickford and his wife Sandra have full-time custody, under a Family Law Court order, of their nine-year-old grandson.

The couple has raised the child since he was 18 months old.

“It will be really hard for us financially if we lose the payment,” Mr Bickford said.

“We’d have to move homes, and we wouldn’t be able to afford the extra costs associated with raising him.”

Mr Bickford said most children who are being raised by their grandparents have special needs, which places extra burdens on household budgets.

“The money we receive [from the payment] goes in doctor’s bills and out of school activities that our grandson participates in,” the retired taxi driver said. “We wouldn’t be able to afford the things he needs if we lose the money.”

Thanks Pizza, so the breach sounds like a reporting issue ( 'breach of reporting conditions').....is that checking into a Police Station at set intervals? He didn't turn up perhaps.

His grandson needs to be removed from the household I'm sorry but no child should be living with a convicted sex offender whether they are a relative or not. Most likely he associates with other individuals who are offenders too and his grandson should not be exposed to them.

The grandmother should get access to the grandson without the grandfather present. It will likely be distressing for the grandson but the authorities need to step in and take action.

IIRC there was an article a few months ago stating he was not allowed near a 14 year old boy that lives in his home. I think its one of the pay walled articles.

But you're absolutely right. Especially if grandma is supporting grandpa in all of this. She probably is around a lot of the same birds of a feather.

Is she in denial of his conviction or just turning her head?

http://www.portnews.com.au/story/3676395/person-of-interest-very-sorry-for-william-tyrrells-family/

On Wednesday he (Bickford) fronted the media on the steps and defended his support for the Tyrrell family.

"I feel very sorry for the family, I really do," he said.

"Why can't I feel compassion for a child?"

He said he was an "acquaintance" of*fellow person of interest Tony Jones, but denied they were friends and said he "wouldn't have any idea" what Jones was doing on the day of William Tyrrell's disappearance.*

My quoted article says:

He said he was an "acquaintance" of fellow person of interest Tony Jones, but DENIED they were friends

Earlier article states differently:

Both men — who are CLOSE friends — were arrested and charged in the time following the disappearance of William.

“He’s a bloody fool (for pleading guilty),” his wife Sandra said.
“He didn’t want to go to jail … he’s innocent.
“We’ve had a very emotional weekend. We have been interviewed by the detectives from Sydney before, they questioned everyone in our group.”

Mrs Bickford said homicide detectives had interviewed she and her husband extensively over their knowledge, if any, of William.
Mrs Bickford claimed last week that her husband was banned from living with her and the child residing at the same address. A teenage boy was also seen visiting the house yesterday while Bickford was inside.
The family of Bickford’s victim described him as “the lowest of the low” and said they wanted him exposed as a convicted paedophile.
Tony Jones — also a former member of GAPA — is in jail awaiting sentencing next week over indecently assaulting a different 11-year-old girl.

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/ne...n/news-story/99d6a1d7df33b3f9e7abd83d804d6130

It is unclear if Bickford’s alleged breach relates to a visit to his wife’s home on September 7 last year, when The Daily Telegraph observed him leave the house in a white sedan at roughly 9.15am and return roughly 15 minutes later after a visit to the shops.
A child was also seen visiting the home while Bickford was inside.

“It has wrecked my life big time,” Bickford’s wife Sandra said yesterday. “I’ve been married to the man 47 years.”
Another GAPA member, Anthony Jones, is behind bars and awaiting a September 14 sentencing for indecently assaulting a different 11-year-old child.

He admitted he had been interviewed twice by police about William, who would now be four years old.....

Bickford said his most recent interview with Strike Force Rosann investigators occurred just four months ago.
“The first one went for just over an hour and the second one probably went for about 15 minutes,” he said.
“They just asked me where I was, what I was doing ... the normal things you would probably ask.”

He also was at the forefront of opening a GAPA branch in Wauchope and another branch is in the pipeline for Taree early next year.
Mr Bickford, a former taxi operator in Sydney who moved to Port Macquarie in 2001, said he was inspired by his grandchildren to get involved in GAPA which was initially a Uniting Care Burnside initiative.

“My wife and I found out by accident that there was this group and the next minute I was president,” Mr Bickford said.
“Most of the children have some kind of problems mainly because of what’s happened to them in their past. Not only is it looking after the grandchildren, you’ve got to balance looking after your own children

Ahha! And there's the connection to the girl he admitted to molesting:

Mr Bickford said most children who are being raised by their grandparents have special needs.

Didn't she have special needs / Asperger’s syndrome?

Of course PB says he is only an "acquaintance" of AJ and he doesn't know what AJ was doing. Probably this is, what each "club member" would say of every single other member.

Hmm. Wonder if there's any connection. And there's Western Sydney again!

IMO, he is knowing many many people and maybe people out of some sort of "milieu" and drunken pub visitors and pub owners and during the day "reputable" night owls who want to experience something and, and, and ... His connections maybe manifold.
