Thanks for this article, good to refresh my memory. I haven't been on this thread for a while but browsing through it seems like BS has been in court a few times, is it to do with William or the older case with the girls?

Off topic but does anyone know if the road name sign on the street corner ever got corrected (still showing as Beneroon with an e on streetview but it's an old image). Unconnected and unimportant in the grand scheme of things but it bugged me!

BS' recent appearances in court have been to do with him suing the media for defamation. He's just partially won an application to extend a deadline he missed because he was being prosecuted in relation to the girls. The matter will continue next year--I forget the date, possibly March?

Edit--defamation in connection with coverage of William's case.

This inquest is going to get very interesting with Gail Furness representing the foster parents. Furness worked as counsel assisting the commissioner in the child abuse royal commission for 5 years. She is also working the Folburg inquiry. She will go at persons of interest like no other. She is brilliant! I certainly would not feel comfie under her gaze!

The spelling has been corrected to Benaroon.

I'm really curious as to why so few people were summoned to this Directions Hearing. I was under the impression that there were many POIs.

Are they just starting from the beginning, the day William disappeared... then summoning more people as the inquest progresses?

William Tyrell: Police Following “Active Leads” Ahead O... | ten daily

The foster parents of William Tyrell sat in the front row of the NSW Coroner’s Court as lawyers mapped out an inquest into the little boy’s disappearance on the NSW mid-north coast more than four years ago.
William’s foster parents will be represented at the inquest by barrister Gail Furness SC
The Department of Family and Community Services will also have legal representation, as William was in the department’s care when he vanished
But perhaps the most unusual appearance announced before Deputy State Coroner Harriet Grahame was via speakerphone from Kendall.

Paul Savage, who lives across the road from William’s foster grandmother and who reportedly helped in the initial search, couldn’t make it to court himself and told the court he was still sorting out his lawyer.

The final list of witnesses to give evidence, and the issues to be considered by the inquest, is due in February.

A week-long hearing is then expected to take place in March

coming up on channel nine morning news....william tyrrells inquest,
the directions hearing is currently underway this morning

I heard to the effect of 'it's not reasonable to conclude William is deceased'; 'police still following active leads'; ...

His foster parents were at the directions hearing - one nightmare on top of the other it must be for all .

that's an interesting sentence..
Paul Savage, who lived across the road from the Benaroon Drive property from which William went missing, attended the court via conference call and told Deputy State Coroner Grahame that he was "still sorting out" his legal representation.

Certainly struck me too TGY. .. why does he need legal representation ? Why was he even called to this hearing ? Did he perhaps divulge something that's never been made public I wonder ?

Bill is there too, with his gun who delivers all the warnings 'we've sued the media before, be careful what you say ' type attitude!
I can't help but wonder if the previous defamation actions were in prep for this - to ensure no media influence ... just my weird mind going places ... (I also wonder who foots the bill for all this legal accompaniment - I'll be *%}} if it's Legal Aid)

And for that matter why were these people required at this hearing & not others ?
IMO, there's lots if strategy being played out still - Police still investigating active leads; Persons of interest may be forced to testify - IMO there's lots we don't know about, and I'm sensing that some one's or ones' world is soon to be blown apart ...

thanks for that, I just read it, I already do not like where this inquest is going......... do you think the FP's are paying for this barrister or the NSW government? Is the FP's position in this inquiry extaordinary to anyone else or is it just me?
What do you think their position is? Why would it be extraordinary? Do you think they shouldn’t be there?

Their beautiful little son was abducted. They will never heal. IMO

I wonder if all the neighbours who were home at the time will be summoned to attend? And will they all need legal representation?

The look on Jubes' face is concerning. I'm not sure what to make of it.

He may have been officially requested by Counsel Assisting the Deputy Coroner to undertake further actions. DCI Jubelin's team investigation is also under the spotlight.

Very stressful times for all concerned.

Are you talking about BC ? Would you consider a 30 plus year old a youth ? None of us know of his decline besides what NC has said. He may just be a bad guy regardless of what’s happened to his son.

Let us not hone in on bio father like this. After all he too is a victim of this horrendous issue. No matter his past and recent actions no one should cast judgement or assume anything. He is a very troubled young man that is for sure and I hope he is able to seek the compassionate assistance to move forward.

I doubt it will be the last. It appears he’s he’s up there with Spedding.

Washing machine repairman Bill Spedding, who was previously named as a person of interest in the case but was never charged and has always denied any wrongdoing, was among several parties legally represented today.

Outside the court his barrister Peter Obrien told journalists "just be very careful how you report this, yes he has been summonsed to attend so of course he is being represented".

Paul Savage, a man who lived across the road from where William vanished, has also been called to give evidence. He addressed the court via telephone today and is understood to be seeking legal advice.

Police still chasing ‘active leads’ in William Tyrrell case

The issue regarding witnesses seeking legal advice and supported by legal counsel is a totally normal process in inquests. In this case certain witnesses may be required to speak openly about neighbours actions before and after sweet William's disappearance. What a witness might have to say openly may be quite insightful and could cause legal issues such as defamation. Legal reps are there to negotiate on their clients' behalf and at times witness testimony can be conducted in a closed non public environment.

Anyone a subscriber to the Daily Telegraph?

Paraphrasing ....

Lawyers for a man who was named as a POI, William Spedding, gathered beside William's parents.
Mr Craddock (counsel for coroner) asked William's parents how they were, they were sitting next to Jubes. (It does not say they were summoned.)
The inquest seeks to discover if William is still alive.
The investigation is still happening, active leads are being pursued.
Jubes says still plenty of policework to be done.
Paul Savage dialled in briefly, he will give evidence next year. (It does not say he was summoned.)
Spedding has received a summons to appear during the week-long inquest inquiry in March (before it restarts in August).
FACS has been ordered to provide a statement about William's removal by child protection workers, and their internal investigation. (The one we heard about to do with Spedding?)
