The first witness is Senior Constable Daniel Dring, who has been involved various ground searches around the Kendall area in the past year. One of those recently was near the property where child sex offender Frank Abbott lived at the time William disappeared.

I reported earlier this year on
@10NewsFirst
that one of those searches related to a report from a neighbour who claimed to have heard a scream the day after William vanished.

Counsel Assisting Gerard Craddock is questioning him about the search of the sawmill last year, which is on the property where Abbott lived in a caravan. The court heard they “occasionally” found bones, but none were human.

The court heard police searched another block of land in February this year, which had recently been cleared by private developers. There were over 60 large woodpiles on the land, which they searched with dogs and probes. But they did not move any of the piles.

The court heard a police dog indicated on a red singlet found during one of the searches. It was seized for forensic examination.

They also found what looked like a “piece of foam or rubber consistent with the sole of a child’s shoe or sandal”.

Person of interest Frank Abbott is watching the proceedings via video link from jail, where he’s serving time for child sex offences. The hearing has been paused briefly for him to have a toilet break.

The court is being shown an image of a tree within the search area from June this year which had electrical tape wrapped around it that “had been there for some time”. The court heard the ground underneath was “lumpy” and had “loose earth” which “looked out of place”.

Police brought in a cadaver dog and used probes to thoroughly search the ground underneath. Counsel assisting has moved on without mentioning whether anything was found there.

Jubelin might be in the court champing at the bit.
Hope so.
But adds “there’s no evidence that he could tell you that you don’t have otherwise”.

Let Jubes say if there is no evidence he could add. What are they frightened of? Justice for William or is it easier to cover up injustice?
That's what it's starting to look like, tgy.

William Tyrrell: Frank Abbott mentioned ‘smell of death’ in bush near toddler’s disappearance
A convicted paedophile made a disturbing comment while driving past bushland close to where toddler William Tyrrell disappeared, an inquest has heard.

Convicted paedophile Frank Abbott pointed to an area of land near where toddler William Tyrrell disappeared and said it had a “smell of death” as he went past in a car, a court has heard.

The man driving, Geoff Owen, said he “shrugged it off” at the time as nothing was unusual when it came to Abbott.

‘Smell of death’: Disturbing comment near where William Tyrrell disappeared

Geoff Owen was scheduled to repair damage to the deck at the Benaroon Drive home on a day around the time William disappeared.

On Tuesday Mr Owen told Lidcombe Coroner’s Court that Abbott lived in a caravan he owned and wasn’t using, which he offered up after hearing Abbott needed accommodation.

He sometimes gave Abbott lifts, he said, and on one occasion he pointed to an area north of Kendall and said he’d encountered a bad smell.

“Did he say that he could smell death?” asked counsel assisting Gerard Craddock.

“Those were the words he used,” Mr Owen replied.
