There are 10's of thousands of cases plead out every year in Maricopa County. That being said, most people cop a plea, unless they REALLY didn't do something, or are a complete sociopath *insert name of most despised Az murderer here CMJA cough*.
Gov Brewer announced that Az isn't in the hole anymore and there is a surplus of funds (thanks to cuts in Education and Health :facepalm
so if Montgomery is bound and determined to retry Chrisman, his office will pursue it. How will this be compounded by Mehran's retiring? I don't see the Judge holding his feet to the fire like another Judge who won't let certain defense attorneys quit their client.....so this could drag on for years.
Maybe cases like these should be reason to review specifics of the Law, that of "speedy trials", etc. How much of the trial system has been turned around to the advantage of the guilty and a burden on the Legal System and the Tax Payers that pay for it?
Just because a person is found "Not Guilty" doesn't mean they won't forever have a target on their back. Will Chrisman (if not found guilty or retried) relocate to Idaho? Land of the disenfranchised ex cops? I know his face, many others in Arizona know his face. If we pass by him on the street, will we mutter some indecency as we pass him? Will someone play out some "street justice"? PD fired him because THEY thought his actions were wrong. How much corruption can the average citizen, with a chip on his shoulder take, before they take the Law into their own hands?
Maybe the days of Arizona being a "Law and Order State" are coming to an end, the influx of people from around the Nation settling here and bringing their own ideas of right and wrong into our state. I'm getting tired of the victim being trashed in the court room.
Yep, there I go rambling again........I don't have a clue as to what the jury has come up with. I no longer trust their integrity..........
