I also won't be surprised if it turns out they were meth users. I don't think doing it has become a new norm like drinking or smoking pot, but it's out there and readily available. As much as it's spreading certainly some users don't fit the meth-user stereotype.

I'm most familiar with West Virginia which isn't a super populated state and doesn't share a border with Mexico, yet authorities seized 533 meth labs in 2014 (compared to 288 in 2012). It's like an infestation.

I know. Their poor kids. My parents used to tell me that nothing good happens after midnight. I can't really imagine that they would go to this guy's house late at night for, er, wholesome reasons.

One of the latest media reports stated the following:

"Investigators believe Michael Careccia and Valenzuela used drugs together earlier in the day, including methamphetamine... Michael Careccia had made several calls to Valenzuela on the evening of June 21."

Speculation ONLY, but the way this is worded makes me wonder if perhaps drug use during the day wasn't an uncommon thing for Mike, since he wasn't working, and perhaps he had lingering pain from his past injury that made him susceptible to the "escape" that drugs can provide. Again, speculation ONLY. I am not trying to cast a bad light here - only trying to understand why someone who seemed to have a decent life would even dabble.

Drugs have always scared the daylights out of me personally, but I can't tell you how many people I've known who have been casual drug users. These are people who work in professional fields, executive positions, even. Pills, coke, meth - you name it. You'd never think it of them, until something bad happened (and it usually did), and then everyone was shocked. The drug epidemic is so sad, and as cliche as it sounds, drugs definitely ruin lives.

RIP Mike and Tina

It doesn't matter what they did.
They did not deserve to die.
We all have free choice. A victim is not responsible for their demise
Everyone has freedom of choice,....to use, to drink, to sell yourself
But no one has the freedom to end another persons life. Ever.

MOO!

Oh, I agree with you 100%!! They absolutely didn't deserve this horrible ending.

It makes sense to me. Pilots make good money, and AZ has a low cost of living. They shouldn't have been living with relatives and struggling to afford a trailer. A drug habit would certainly explain that.

If you look through the threads on WS, so many cases ended tragically. A majority of them you find drugs coming into play. Some of them children became the victims. Its so sad. :(

Just trying to catch up. What a day. I was wondering who introducted who to drugs. Mike or Tina but reading along they were doing meth socially for two years so when they married they each knew the others addiction.

They were a beautiful couple. Seems like things just kept going downhill for them.

I will say they were loved. Family knowing their weakness but still providing makes me know that about them.

Sounds like they just got involved with evil. A tool of the trade. Sigh.

Based on what? Their photos?
Pretty much, that and pouring over their FB and that of friends. It's all I had to go on. I'm guilty as charged.

Just goes to show that you can't judge a book by its cover.

Based on family and inside circle's photos.

Turns out that's not an accurate way to know what's going on (really going on) in people's lives. For instance, most people who use drugs are not showing their drug use in photos for their friends and families to see. Most of that drug use is done behind doors of one type or another. And most people who commit crimes of one form or another are not showing pictures of themselves committing crimes and publishing them on social media.

Most young adults and teens don't realize or care if what they do are seen. The millennials don't think like most of us that are 35 and older, they're mentality is that they're invincible.
