PHOENIX (TCD) -- A 37-year-old man was taken into custody on murder and other charges several weeks after a recent high school graduate from Nebraska was found dead and dismembered in a burn pile in a remote area.

On July 5, detectives from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Apprehension Tactical Enforcement Unit arrested Anthonie Ruinard on suspicion of killing 18-year-old Parker League and using his debit card to make transactions. According to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, League and Ruinard were seen June 11 leaving a gas station and getting into a black Dodge Challenger. That was reportedly the last time League was seen alive.

League’s family reported him missing to the Tempe Police Department on June 15. Three days earlier, officials found a body in a bonfire pit that was later positively identified as League’s, KPNX-TV reports. He was reportedly supposed to fly home to Nebraska from Arizona the day officials located his remains.

Ruinard is being held on a $2 million bond. Officials have stated that Ruinard is expected to be charged with first-degree murder at his initial court appearance.

On the surface, it appeared Ruinard was a businessman running different companies and enterprises, but we’ve uncovered a history of violent crime and a bizarre path of problems left in his wake.

He’s no stranger to criminal activity. His criminal history includes an armed robbery, theft, a bomb threat to a school, and leaving his dog in the backyard to die, adding an animal cruelty charge to his rap sheet. But all that happened between 2003 and 2007, so the challenge is piecing together what he did after that. It appears he has a slew of LLCs and recently owned a popular restaurant in Tucson, Pastiche.

Now, former employees have shared that things weren’t as they seemed there. “I worked there in, like, January, and there were people who still hadn’t gotten paid from Thanksgiving or November, said Alberto Oceguera, who was a server at the restaurant for several months. He said many were upset because they said Ruinard was withholding money and not giving them tips, yet always showing up to the restaurant in nice cars. “It’s kind of hard to believe that a guy that has that type of money and shows that off wouldn’t pay you,” Oceguera said. That restaurant closed in February after a mysterious fire, and the cause is still unknown.

He’s still charged with his murder. Dismissed due to Grand Jury Indictment means that the jury decided there is enough evidence that exists to charge him with a crime. Next court date is for 9/7

I feel the manner of death and dismemberment with the placements of his head and hands indicate he was possibly bound by feet and/or possible it had greater meaning. Maybe a lack of disrespect or if one of them tried to steal or rip off the other. It just seems pretty vicious and personal. There’s a whole lot of evidence and careless coverup if you want to call it that for a seasoned murder. This guy appears to not give a crap about covering his tracks. The comment about selling cards is a red herring or excuse imo. What are your thoughts on cartel involvement.

Nonetheless, my heart has been heavy wondering if he was still alive when the dismemberment started as the pool of blood in the trunk was fairly small per articles. Prayers to this young man’s family. My friend actually totaled her car on the way to the funeral. Luckily everyone was unharmed.

Nearly a year after the murder, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office indicted a man for the killing and dismemberment of an 18-year-old man found dead deep in the desert in an area known as “The Pit.”

The grand jury ended up indicting Ruinard for murder and moving a human body.

Authorities say they were tipped off by transactions made with League’s bank card after his remains were found. The sheriff’s office submitted its case to prosecutors in October.

“Experienced homicide prosecutors in my office combed through nearly 4,000 pages of material submitted in this homicide case. After five months of careful review, we were able to secure this indictment,” Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said in a statement. “This is the next step in bringing justice to Parker League and his family.”

Ruinard’s trial for the two charges has been set for July 17, court records show.

Ruinard has also been indicted for six other charges, for which a trial has been set for May 8, according to court records:

  • Two counts of narcotic drug possession for sale
  • One count of narcotic drug manufacture
  • Two counts of misconduct involving weapons
  • One count of credit card theft or fraudulently obtaining a credit card
