PHOENIX – Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords spoke for the first time since she was shot in the forehead, her spokesman said Wednesday, yet another significant milestone in her recovery from a traumatic brain injury.
Giffords first spoke within the past few days and is speaking "more and more," spokesman C.J. Karamargin said Wednesday. He didn't know what her first words were, but said that at breakfast one morning she asked for toast.
"She's working very hard and it's paying off," he told The Associated Press. "We're elated at this. We always knew Gabby is a fighter and that she's not going to let this thing win. And you know, every day is proof of that." more at link: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_congresswoman_shot

Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords has recovered enough from a bullet to the brain to ask for toast with breakfast.

Few details are available, but Pia Carusone, Giffords' chief of staff, confirmed that the congresswoman made the verbal request on Monday when hospital workers at TIRR Memorial Hermann brought her a meal.

"Yes, that's accurate," Carusone said in an e-mail.

Judge won't release records, photo in Tucson shooting

TUCSON, AZ - A judge said Friday the U.S Marshals Service must decide if another mug shot can be released of the suspect in the Arizona shootings that killed six people and wounded U.S. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and a dozen others.

U.S. District Judge Larry A. Burns also said in San Diego that he will keep search warrant records in the case sealed at least until another expected indictment is filed March 9 with addition charges.

Amazing! I wish there was more they could do to punish this guy for not responding other than the loss of his job!!!:banghead::banghead::banghead: So he doesn't respond because it's not his politics!!! How did this guy ever get to be a first responder???

"Randy Loughner was always reclusive. But since his son's alleged shooting rampage last month, the father has shut himself behind what one neighbor calls "an elaborate cage."

In recent weeks, Loughner has built a substantial wooden enclosure, more than 6 feet high, obscuring his front door and windows. The four horizontal windows on the garage door have been papered over, the diamond-shaped openings atop the block wall to his back yard closed off with little plywood plugs. Even the white mailbox out front has been replaced by a heavy black steel one with a locked drawer...."

I saw on the news this boxed in house. It was a fence and it didn't look too bad. Many people have their front yards fenced in certain areas out here. I didn't see the back yard but the short clip of the front wasn't a boxed in front door or elaborite cage. If I can find it recorded I'll post it.

I remember when the FBI went to the parents house with warrants. They mentioned then the father had boxed in the front door and the parents wouldn't open the door. It took 5 minutes and they were let in the news said later that night.

My feelings are they are his parents, most likely hurting pretty bad and I'm sure they have a lot of regret. If the media camped outside my house with news cams, I'd move or something. Remember what the Anthony's had? I saw on the news all the news trucks and reporters out front of the Loughner's house. No telling what people are doing/saying to them or knocking on their door for an interview. That's JMO on that.
 
Though the dad sounded pretty paranoid and reclusive prior to the shooting and his son's arrest. It seems like the parents were very isolated and had no friends. Very mentally unhealthy family dynamics going on in that house that's for sure. Also JL wasn't allowed to bring anyone in the house IIRC. I think one of the neighbors commented how dad got really angry if anyone stood too close to his fence while on their own property (not normal!) and fighting with one of the neighbors about trash left by previous owner or tenant. I am sure the media has made whatever mental issues dad has a lot worse but clearly he was having problems way before the media and strangers started showing up at his house. JMO.

Here's a link to those photos. There are 67 but only the first few are of the home. I agree it looks to be similar to many other homes in desert communities. It's the father's demeanor and mental health that worries me the most:

The photo shows Jared Loughner in front of a block cinder wall, wearing a mustard colored jail uniform with a white T-shirt underneath. His hair is slightly grown out and he has a cut on his right forehead...."

Giffords making more progress, singing ‘American Pie’

HOUSTON — Gabrielle Giffords has been singing "American Pie," eating chicken soup and "is making the kind of progress that all of us would anticipate" after being shot in the head in January, according to a rabbi who has been visiting the congresswoman regularly.

Rabbi David Lyon, of Congregation Beth Israel in southwest Houston, has been visiting Giffords about three times a week as she recovers in the TIRR Memorial Hermann hospital,
