Heather Mack (front R), who is accused of premeditated murder of her mother, walks with her co-accused and boyfriend Tommy Schaefer (L) of the US to a vehicle at Kerobokan prison in Denpasar on Indonesia's resort island of Bali on February 2, 2015.

I can't help myself - but Bali - "Put 'em in a Coffin...squad"

More pics at this link. And a clearer pic that shows that the ring is gone. Maybe she is going to quit pretending now? Their social mores should not affect the facts of the crime anyway.

And maybe she has decided to disassociate herself from the 'brutal murderer' of her mother ... and look a bit remorseful and sad.

I'd say things are not all roses between her and Tommy. Tommy is going to die for participating in her ********. What a fool.

I am pissed off at the fact there are idiot Australians over there helping her but I am also not surprised that there are free loading hippies taking payments to deliver food to her. Let the ***** eat rice and ****** vegetables.

Here's a 90-second video with some clips from the courtroom as well as the holding cells. It includes the top judge delivering his ruling as well as a close-up of Heather being hand-cuffed:

I like those bracelets, HM so talented with jewelry design she can bedazzle those and have sparkly wrists and colorful lips. Jmo

ciao

Glad to see the trial will proceed. That moving video did look like the two of them aren't as lovey dovey as before. And both engagement strings missing now. Maybe they were stolen? Hahahaha

Where's Tommy's lunch? How come HM is eating and he's got nothin'? ;)

So sad about the Bali 9 guys.

Can't help but notice how hot and irritated she looks in the pics and video. I guess it's no picnic being 7 months pregnant in a perpetual sauna. And this is supposed to be their coolest month. In another month she might be downright hostile. :giggle:

Corriere della Sera, one of Italy’s leading newspapers, has a story on the judges' ruling. It doesn’t contain any info we don’t already know.

However, the photo gallery accompanying the article is interesting. It’s made up of two dozen pictures, going back to the arrest of the pair, but most are very recent. What’s odd is that several of the photos have pixilated out the handcuffs. This seems to have been done for all photos with handcuffs except one. Why? Are handcuffs considered potentially damaging to folks not yet found guilty in a court of law? Did they just forget to alter the single photo?

I share this curiosity with you.

There is an interesting paper here, about the presumption of innocence. How a defendant should not appear on the stand in handcuffs, how they should or should not appear in the media, etc. I would imagine that it has something to do with that.

"It is consecrated as a constitutional right, notably in Italy, Spain and France. A large number of rulings from the European Court in Strasbourg protect this right as fundamental, which prohibits pre-trial pronouncement of guilt, limits pre-trial detention, determines the burden of proof and allows the defendant to refuse self-incrimination.

A presumption deals with appearance, id est with the perception of something or someone – here the accused – before more careful examination has been made. This is clearly revealed by all decisions of the European Court about the way the defendant is portrayed in the Media."

Defense Objections Rejected by Judges -- The Jakarta Post

At last, someone publishes something other than the Associated Press report by Firdia Lisnawati of the judges’ ruling on the defense demurral, which is now scattered far and wide across the internet.

The article in the Jakarta Post by Ni Komang Erviani (who has written several pieces on this case over the months) reports a few new scraps of information, including a slightly different translation of what the presiding judge ruled and names of two prosecutors.

From the article:

“The indictment has been arranged carefully and fulfilled the material and judiciary requirements; the objection from the lawyer is rejected,” presiding judge Made Suweda said …

[In a previous session] prosecutors Eddy Artha Wijaya and Ni Luh Oka Ariani assured that the indictment and the charges were very clear.

… the trial will continue on Wednesday, Feb. 4, to hear witness statements.

… the two Americans could face the death penalty as they have been charged with premeditated murder under Article 340 of the Criminal Code.

Pleased to hear the trials will go on with these two facing very serious charges. What they both did to Sheila was absolutely horrifying.

Thanks to all of you for the news updates.

:cow: Need some cows here. :cow:

No class Tommy Escort! Having a friend giving the bird on your page is really not appealing. What kind of woman is attracted to that? Yeah, you're a dreamer alright. Sounds so harmless to be a dreamer, but your dream was to use someone's stolen credit card to live it up in a fancy hotel and you dreamt to kill someone's mother so you could live the rich life. I'm telling you, in case you haven't realized it yet, your dreams were greedy and dangerous.

MOO

I love the selfie of him standing in his bathroom.

Hey Ladies! Feast your eyes, this is me in my terlet room. Rawr.

I finally finished all the threads, whew! There are so many great posters here, I'm impressed. It started out with me rubbing my grubby mitts together in anticipation of them living out the rest of their hellish existence in an awful Indonesian prison, but color me shocked at the turn this has taken!

I'm still hoping that if they get off in Bali they'll be tried in the U.S. If that's a real option I actually prefer they get off, I can't stand the level of comfort they have now. They need to go to real prison and should at the very least not be allowed to see each other. Smdh.

If she gets that inheritance can it buy her an Indonesian citizenship if she does get off? If she knows going back to the US will land her butt back in jail, she'll do what she can to stay Indonesia I would think. But that could never happen, though. Right? Please?

Indonesia has no extradition treaty with the US, correct?

I think it would be very hard to get citizenship in a lot of countries if there was an arrest warrant issued from the country of residence prior to the application.
HM may use her child in some way though to clear her way to stay in Indonesia for as long as possible if the sentence is marked in years, as when the baby is born it will share dual citizenship - but that may also depend on if the baby is adopted out or not.
I'm hoping that there is an arrest warrant already printed up and in the hands of someone in Indonesia - waiting for the results of this case, just in case.

If HM is found guilty on any level - will she owe the money back to the trust/estate that she has access to now?
Im not sure if we discussed this prior - I really should remember.

BBM: I do not think this is true - I know the Daily Mail published this info at one point, but I did a whole bunch of reading up on this earlier in the threads and it does not seem to be the case. And it actually is not the case in most countries. Just because a person is born in a country does not mean they get citizenship to that country. The baby's citizenship actually follows the parents' citizenship(s).

An Indonesian citizen is:

- one who before the enactment of this law was already an Indonesian citizen
- a child from a legal marriage whose parents are Indonesian citizens
- a child from a legal marriage whose father is an Indonesian citizen and mother is a foreign citizen
- a child from a legal marriage whose mother is an Indonesian citizen and father is a foreign citizen
- a child from a legal marriage whose mother is an Indonesian citizen and father is stateless or whose nationality law does not give citizenship to offspring
- a child from a legal marriage born within 300 days after the father's death and the father was an Indonesian citizen at the time of death
- a child from an illegal marriage whose mother is an Indonesian citizen
- a child from an illegal marriage whose mother is a foreign citizen but the father is an Indonesian citizen and recognizes the child as his child before the child turns 18 or is married
- a child born in Indonesian territory whose parent's citizenship status is unknown
- a newly born child found in Indonesian territory as long as the father and mother are unknown
- a child born in Indonesian territory if the parents are stateless or cannot be found
- a child born outside of Indonesian territory whose parents are Indonesian citizens and, because of the law where the child was born, the child was granted another citizenship
- a child from whose father or mother was already granted Indonesian citizenship but died before taking an oath of allegiance
