Anti-virus software magnate goes public in Guatemala, where he has hired a lawyer in bid for asylum there

McAfee has been on the run since the shooting of fellow American Gregory Viant Faull in Belize

McAfee claims he 'has body double in Mexico with North Korean passport'

After weeks on the run, anti-virus software founder John McAfee has gone public in Guatemala, where he plans to ask for asylum because he fears persecution in Belize.

McAfee made two public appearances on Tuesday in Guatemala City, where he fielded questions from reporters and proclaimed his innocence in the November murder of a neighbor.

Now apparently in Guatemala. Or so he says. "Apparently." No, really. "Really."

John McAfee confirms he is in Guatemala after all, and is planning a press conference tomorrow ()

Obviously John has to throw out a lot of misinformation on the blog so you cant hold that against him, he is using the blog to his advantage as he knows those looking for him are reading it very closely. So you cant take anything from that and use it against him as being inconsistent or a liar since he is doing it on purpose.

John has now retained the services of Telésforo Guerra, former Attorney General for the country of Guatemala, he is John's girlfriends uncle and the most powerful and prominent attorney in the country and perhaps all of Central America, he is very much the big time and should be able to handle this for John in short order and bring this to a quick end.

John is innocent of murder, he has not went in for questioning because he believes, and rightfully so, that certain powerful and very influential people want to see him dead. He has agreed to meet with the PM of Belize at a neutral site agreed upon by both sides and answer any questions but he will not do so on their terms. If you read what has happened to Mr Mcafee since April of this year and leading up to the murder of his neighbor, you will clearly understand that none of this is fueled by guilt or paranoia, Mr Mcafee has been stalked, threatened, his homes raided and his money and assets froze and stolen. During the raides of his home and lab they found no drugs, nothing illegal, he has done nothing wrong other than speak out against rampant corruption in the country he adopted and came to call home and love. Since he went public with his complaints of corruption at the highest levels of Belizian government his life has been a living hell and he is now on the run fearing that he could soon be killed.

Hopefully this will all be sorted out soon and Mr Mcafee can get on with his life and no longer have to fear for it.

Whoismcafee.com is his side of the story and it is quite an interesting and well written read.

A comment/question on his blog this morning, with Mr Mcafee's answer, I thought this was important and if he were lying it would be rather easy to find out, and besides that his houses have all been raided and no drugs of any sort were found.

Mr Mcafee, can you assure everyone who is reading this that you are not using any mind altering substances legal or otherwise, nicotine or caffine notwithstanding. I personally do not care either way and I dont think it is anyone’s business what you do, but I have been defending you with vigor since this started, here and many other places, against vultures who insist you and Sam are on drugs and out of your minds. So I would really like to have it on record straight from your mouth that you are not on drugs and you are in fact sober and have been for a number of years now…so we can put this to bed once and for all and people will focus on the REAL ISSUES here instead of the red herrings and other silly distractions.
BTW congrats on your future marriage, Sam is a keeper and I am thrilled you and her are seemingly in good hands now and safe and hope this will now resolve itself in short order.
Namaste my friend!

I am not using any mind altering substances. I have not used any mind altering substances since 1983. I do not even drink. I am aggresively opposed to drugs and alcohol. I do drink coffee, and recently took up smoking.

Come Thursday, deportation may be the latest twist to the saga of software mogul John McAfee.

McAfee , who was on the run for weeks to evade questioning in his neighbor's death, was detained in Guatemala on Wednesday after entering the country illegally, officials there said.

He may be sent back to Belize on Thursday so officials there can question him, said Francisco Cuevas, a spokesman for Guatemala's president.

I am in jail in Guatemala. Vastly superior to Belize jails. I asked for a computer and one magically appeared. The coffee is also excellent.

Only time will tell what will happen. No one has a crystal ball. However, I would be truly shocked if I did not conduct the press conference tomorrow as I had originally planned.

Stay tuned.

I believe, by the way, that blogging from a jail cell might be a groundbreaking activity. Let’s see if it catches on.

This guy seems to be pretty full of himself. Thinks he's above the law and no remorse for the victim.

Here is the only article I could find on the london financial times website regarding John McAfee. It is from yesterday, so somewhat outdated I suppose. Not sure if it could be considered the most honest article written by one of the best as it doesn't really state much as "fact" per se. It's more of a "he said, she said" article.

t's still a mystery where John McAfee will eventually land, but his life story is destined for the small screen.

Currently in custody in Guatemala and fighting deportation efforts that could return him to Belize to face questions about a murder, the antivirus-software pioneer has signed a deal that gives the rights to his life story to a Montreal-based TV producer.

TV production company Impact Future Media said today it has secured the exclusive intellectual property rights to the former fugitive's story, a project tentatively titled "Running in the Background: The True Story of John McAfee."

McAfee says he wants to return to the United States and "settle down to whatever normal life" he can. "I simply would like to live comfortably day by day, fish, swim, enjoy my declining years," he said.

McAfee added he was in good health and denied any involvement in the death under investigation in Belize.

"Let me be clear: I had absolutely nothing to do with the murder,'' McAfee said.

He was wearing eyeglasses and spoke into a computer camera. He appeared alone against a backdrop of a bare white wall and ceiling.

Guatemalan judge orders release of John McAfee

A lawyer for John McAfee said a judge had ordered the software company founder released from a Guatemalan detention centre where he has been fighting being returned to Belize.

He has said that he wants to return to the United States with his 20-year-old Belizean girlfriend. Mr Guerra agreed that that would be his best option.

"For me, it's best that McAfee go to the United States, that's definitely the country where he will be safest," Mr Guerra said. "In Guatemala, he runs the risk that anything could happen to him."

Hmmm...Where's Paximus?

I am here =)

John has been released from immigration detention, a judge ruled he was detained illegally, he will soon be returning to the US, he was released 2 hours ago, he went to the US Consulate and they told him it would take 3 weeks for his girlfriend Sam to get a visa to travel to the US with him because of a backlog. So he now doesnt know what to do, he doesnt want to leave her behind but he also needs to get the hell out of there, as of now he is considering both of them flying to the UK today because Sam as a Belizian National is allowed to travel to the UK with no visa for up to 6 months, they will then work on her US Visa and return to the states, but this is not for sure, he is as we speak right now weighing all possibilities.

Several US attorneys have already announced this morning that they are awaiting eagerly for him to return to the states because of some civil lawsuits he has been involved in over the years, many of which are shakedowns IMO, he will be shookdown for his money here as much as he was in Belize, sadly.

John may be full of himself or whatever else some of you have to say about him but John is a good guy, you dont know him so you really shouldnt try and paint him in to the bad guy here, John has a heart of gold and has helped untold many over the years who needed help.

His lifestyle isnt perfect or accepted by everyone but none of that makes him a murderer, he was extorted by powerful people in Belize and then set up for murder, OF THIS I HAVE NO DOUBT and I am not a blind follower of ANYONE, my post history will show that, John is a good, decent man, like all of us he does have his flaws.

"Complying with migration law, Mr. John McAfee is to be deported to his country of origin," said Fernando Lucero, a spokesman for Guatemala's immigration office.
Officials said they expected the deportation to begin right away, although McAfee was still at an immigration shelter where he has been held.
Two police patrol cars arrived at the shelter, but it was not immediately clear to what location he will be deported in the United States.

It doesn't appear as if he will have a choice in the country of deportation (US vs UK). I think the UK would have a problem with him turning up on their doorstep. He has a pending lawsuit in the US and is wanted for questioning for a murder in Belize.

Yea that is the problem he is having. I was just told by a mutual friend of ours that he is about to board a plane for Miami, so he may have had to leave Sam behind, he was really conflicted about doing so and I suggested to him that he either go to the UK with her or fly her to the UK put her in a safe place and he return to the US and then get her here asap. I think that is what they are doing.

He cant just leave her there as the best way to get to John, or anyone for that matter, is to go after someone they love, she is a powerful bargaining chip right now and cannot be left in South America anywhere unprotected and without heavy security.

He is a UK citizen by birth though so he can go there and not much they can say about it. And all Belize nationals are allowed to travel freely in the UK without a visa for up to 6 months so Sam can go there with no problem.

The lawsuits in the US against John are all frivolous, they are shakedowns but still expensive to defend against.

John is also going to have to deal with a civil suit that I am certain the family of the murdered man in Belize will file against him, again costing him a fortune to defend. Sad really, he didnt do anything.

One other issue I am trying to make John understand is that if Belize files the murder charge against him, they have not yet, but if they now decided to, the US may be obligted to extradite him per extradition agreement with Belize.

I have told John he should probably go to Thailand, he can have his jungle and beaches and live in a relatively safe place but I dont know if they have any extradition with Belize or not, that is being researched now by my people.

Once John is deported to the states all he has to do is touch down on US soil then he can leave again and go anywhere he wants.

This story is only beginning.

I hope to be meeting with John and advising within the next few weeks when he is settled, we have a lot of catching up to do, its been years and years since I have seen John.

In the end I will never nor can I tell John to break any laws or go on the run as a fugitive which he is not at this time. He may have to face this one way or another if Belize does decide to file charges BUT I HOPE IF THEY DO THAT THE US WILL BE CERTAIN THAT THE EVIDENCE IS LEGIT before they extradite him if it comes to that.

Flight carrying McAfee arrives in Miami
MIAMI (AP) -- Anti-virus software founder John McAfee has arrived in Miami after being deported from Guatemala.
Miami International Airport spokesman Greg Chin said the American Airlines commercial jet carrying McAfee landed shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday. There was no immediate sign of McAfee or information as to where he was headed.
Chin said McAfee would be escorted by federal authorities after he cleared customs and would not appear in public parts of the terminal.
Frank Medina was a passenger on the plane. He said McAfee was taken off the plane before everyone else.
McAfee was expelled from Guatemala earlier Wednesday. He had sneaked into the country from Belize, where authorities want to question him in the homicide of a neighbor.
