Insurer must defend Bill Cosby defamation suits, court says

A federal appeals court says an insurance company must pick up Bill Cosby's tab to fight defamation lawsuits brought by women who accused him of sexual misconduct.

Cosby was convicted in April on three counts of aggravated indecent assault. The 80-year-old comedian is due to be sentenced in September and faces the prospect of spending the rest of his life in prison.

Cosby is scheduled for sentencing Sept. 24.

PHILADELPHIA — Bill Cosby has ousted the high-powered defense team whose aggressive tactics failed to sway jurors from convicting him of sexual assault in April.

Cosby's spokesman Andrew Wyatt said Thursday that Tom Mesereau and the rest of the retrial team have been replaced by a Philadelphia-area defense attorney with experience handling sex crimes cases...

Maybe the legal team hasn't yet been compensated, and Cosby thinks he won't have to pay them if they're fired.

Who’s insurance company are they referring to here? I’m not sure what this means.

Because of being well known, BC May have had an insurance policy just for crimes like he is charged with. Much like concert pianist insure their hands, models insure their specialty like hands, face, feet...just a stab in the dark....any lawyers out there who can chime in?

AIG must defend Bill Cosby against defamation lawsuits

A federal judge said Bill Cosby’s homeowner’s insurance company must defend him against three civil defamation lawsuits in Massachusetts brought by several women who accused the once-beloved entertainer of sexual abuse.

Homeowner policies typically cover personal injuries, such as when a person falls down on an insured’s property, while “excess” policies such as Cosby’s carry enhanced protections.

I think that AIG may fight this court Order to overturn it as Cosby was found guilty.

Just my opinion.

To Defray Legal Costs in Defamation Suits, Bill Cosby Turns to His Insurance

"Though it may seem novel, Mr. Cosby’s policy is a lot like those held by millions of affluent homeowners and other wealthy people who bolster their insurance coverage so that they are protected if they are ever sued."

"The pitcher Roger Clemens, O. J. Simpson and Bill Clinton have all used so-called personal injury coverage, typically tied into their homeowner’s policy, to battle lawsuits."

“Claflin University Board of Trustees voted to revoke the honorary doctoral degree it conferred to William (Bill) Cosby in 1999 during its summer meeting on June 22, 2018. The Board’s decision followed Mr. Cosby’s conviction of sexual assault. According to the Board, Mr. Cosby's conduct was inconsistent with University values.”

"The decision comes after university officials told The State newspaper in early May that they had "no policy to rescind honorary degrees."

I hope that the judge has, or will freeze his assets so he can't start squirreling them away in offshore accounts, if he hasn't done so already. All of his assets should be divided amongst his victims for reparation. Money can never heal the grievous damage he has done, but relieving him of his wealth as punishment, in addition to incarceration, is a good start. This man was so loved by America; what a disgrace.

Bill Cosby´s lawyers want judge to quit ahead of... | Daily Mail Online

A defence motion on Tuesday accused Pennsylvania Judge Steven O’Neill of having a longtime grudge against a key witness in a 2016 pre-trial hearing.

The witness, ex-prosecutor Bruce Castor, said he declined the case in 2005 and promised Cosby that he could never be prosecuted over the 2004 encounter with a woman at his home.

Mr O’Neill found no evidence of a binding agreement and sent the case to trial.
