This is the Bosma murder trial discussion thread.

Please post your comments here, and at all times, keep in mind Websleuths TOS, so affectionately referred to as The Rules.

There will be ZERO TOLERANCE for snarky or disrespectful posts and/or subtle digs at other members. Mods will not be pm'ing you, you will find your post has disappeared, or that you can no longer post.

There is to be NO name calling or name variations, not even of the accused.

There is to be no BICKERING between members. A difference of opinion is NOT a TOS violation. Some will think one or both of the accused are guilty, some will think one or both are not guilty, and some will be on the fence. All of that is okay and should NOT BE ATTACKED. If you disagree, that's fine, move past the post. If a post is offensive, alert it and let the Mods review it. If you respond to the post, both the offensive post AND yours will be removed and may result in other consequences.

If you have any questions, PM a Mod and we will be happy to assist you. The main Mods/Admin for this trial will be Bessie, Coldpizza, and sillybilly.

Reminders for reference as we have respectful discussion in each of the daily trial discussion threads:

Abuse of the WS Alert feature can have consequences including timeout or worse. Such abuse includes, but is not limited to:

• Overuse of the alert system

• Repeatedly alerting on the same poster

• Demanding a specific outcome

• Alerting on the same post more than once

Once you have alerted on a post, please move on without discussing it, and don't question the decisions of our Administrators, Moderators or Owners, and don't expect personalized responses with explanations about a particular decision.

Note: Only testimony that is published through MSM reporting (articles and tweets) is allowed. Keep discussion focused on testimony as it becomes public knowledge and remember to link up to MSM reporting of same.

Any testimony that might remain under Publication Ban, and any courtroom discussion that takes place when the jury is not present, is strictly off-limits.

The principle of “innocent until proven guilty” is for the court room … it is not required that Websleuths members adhere to that principle. Members are allowed to discuss, speculate, theorize, and judge according to opinions they develop from following the specifics of the case.

Hi all - I will transcribe Adam Carter's live blog today. I don't have Twitter so that's the easiest one for me to follow. :) If I have to stop for any reason I'll let you know in this thread.

I'm back in court this morning for the Tim Bosma trial. Follow along for updates.

The jury was in and out lots yesterday, as legal arguments dominated most of the day. We'll soon see if today runs a little smoother in open court.
by Adam Carter 9:57 AM

Justice Goodman is in the room now. Just waiting on the jury.

He was at a police briefing early that morning about the Bosma investigation.
by Adam Carter 10:10 AM

He was asked to follow up with a representative from Kijiji, one of the places Bosma was selling his truck. Stoltz was also asked to look for video.
by Adam Carter 10:13 AM

One place he checked was Super Sucker Inc. in Ancaster. There was video, but the owner told him that the video's time clock was three hours behind.
by Adam Carter 10:15 AM

The camera in question was on a motion detector, so it isn't on if the motion detector isn't tripped.
by Adam Carter 10:16 AM

"I noted that at 6:20 p.m. there was a black pickup truck that went northbound past the building." The corrected time would be 9:20 p.m. "It was followed closely by a second vehicle," Stoltz says.
by Adam Carter 10:17 AM

Stoltz got a copy of that video from the business on a USB stick.

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 3m3 minutes ago
Pulled up video for 6 pm to 6:49 pm.

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 1m1 minute ago

Millard's lawyer Ravin Pillay now cross examining.
by Adam Carter 10:19 AM

Pillay asking about the officer's notes and how often he has referred to them. "You understand you have a professional obligation to maintain notes of your duties?" Pillay asks. "Yes," Stoltz responds.
by Adam Carter 10:21 AM

Pillay asks if the notes need to be recorded as quickly as possible in a timely manner. The officer says yes.

Cross by Ravin Pillay, representing Dellen Millard. Suggests he's relying heavily on his notes: time, who was at briefing, etc...#Bosma

Susan ClairmontVerified account ‏@susanclairmont 1m1 minute ago
Pillay asking if Stoltz knows he's required to keep detailed, accurate, complete notes in a timely manner. Stoltz says yes. #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 59s60 seconds ago
Pillay: "Your notes shouldn't be influenced by subsequent events?" Stoltz: "Right." #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 17s17 seconds ago
Received training in proper note taking.

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 3m3 minutes ago
Notes can play a role in decisions made during investigation? Yes. And in prosecution? Yes. #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 2m2 minutes ago
Can use notes to prepare search warrants, make a judicial application. #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 2m2 minutes ago
Notes disclosed to defence before trial. "Your notes are critical to your credibility when you testify."

RP back on the inept LE and their poor note taking skills again? :waitasec:

MOO

"Sometimes, an event occurs and then we look back to it a few months later, and we know a lot more information, and that information can colour our recollection, yes?" Pillay says. Stoltz again says yes.
by Adam Carter 10:23 AM

"You understand that inaccurate notes -- inadvertently -- could affect testimony in court?" Pillay asks. "It could," Stoltz responds.
by Adam Carter 10:24 AM

"You understand that your notebook can be very important in supporting the prosecution of a matter, correct?" Pillay asks. "Yes," Stoltz responds.
by Adam Carter 10:26 AM

Pillay is asking a lot of questions on Stoltz's notebook. He's really hammering home the importance of accurate notes here.
by Adam Carter 10:27 AM

"You obviously understand that if a matter goes to trial, your notes will go to the defence?" Pillay asks. "Yes," Stoltz responds.
by Adam Carter 10:28 AM
