Thanks Sophie!

"NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams has been suspended for six months without pay following his false claims about an experience he had during the Iraq war, NBC News president Deborah Turness announced Tuesday night."

"We have decided today to suspend Brian Williams as Managing Editor and Anchor of NBC Nightly News for six months. The suspension will be without pay and is effective immediately," Turness wrote in a memo to staff. "We let Brian know of our decision earlier today. Lester Holt will continue to substitute Anchor the NBC Nightly News."

Disgraced NBC News anchor Brian Williams made a bizarre bid to quit the serious world of mainstream journalism to try his hand at late-night comedy by replacing Jay Leno as host of “The *Tonight Show.”

Before Leno stepped down last year, Williams lobbied NBC execs for the legendary funnyman’s job, according to New York magazine.

He ain't coming back in 6 months...

I doubt that BW will be back on NBC in his (former) anchor position. Six months is a long time, and a lot can and will change in that time. I hope NBC permanently assigns the weeknight evening news to Lester Holt.

Thought you guys might get a kick out of this.....

Brian Williams tried and failed to secure a promise that he would definitely return to the Nightly News in six months, claim NBC insiders

Williams failed to receive any assurance from bosses that he will be able to walk back into his old job when his six month suspension is done

Anchor has so far failed to comment but may now attempt to negotiate a settlement deal to leave NBC rather than wait til August

Williams had favored a short suspension that would allow him to maintain his position as managing editor
'That was never going to happen,' said a senior NBC official

Brian Williams' False 2003 Iraq Helicopter Claim Draws Scrutiny To Other War Exploits

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/02/12/brian-williams-seal-team-6_n_6663570.html?utm_hp_ref=media

NEW YORK -- In the wake of “NBC Nightly News” anchor Brian Williams' suspension for lying about being on a helicopter that took fire in Iraq in 2003, questions are emerging over another of his Iraq exploits. Among other things, these questions involve war memorabilia the anchor claims to have received as gifts, including a Navy SEAL's knife and a piece of the helicopter from the raid that killed Osama bin Laden.

Starting in 2011, Williams began talking about a 2003 experience with SEAL Team 6, the elite team that killed bin Laden inside Pakistan on May 1, 2011. But at least one SEAL and comments from the U.S. Special Operations Command cast doubt on that tale.

Trouble mounts for Brian Williams: NBC reportedly looking into his expense accounts

But, Sherman reports, Williams could face problems on other fronts. NBC’s Richard Esposito will continue the network’s fact-checking inquiry into Williams during his suspension, and according to one source, that probe now includes Williams’ expense accounts.

What a flippin mess! BW must be sweating blood!

I keep wondering how he got a pass thru the years with nobody questioning any of this stuff.....or did his production team raise questions/report exaggerations and were ignored? Now his whole career is being scrutinized with a magnifying glass!

One concern relates to Williams telling a 2008 forum at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library that he, not Brokaw, was in Berlin on Nov. 9, 1989, the date commonly regarded as the “the night the wall came down.”

Brokaw was known as the only American anchorman to report live during the historic moment.

An NBC News source confirmed to CNNMoney that “Brian arrived the day after the wall came down.”

A Williams story about meeting Pope John Paul II has also been told by the embattled anchor in various incarnations since the papal visit to Catholic University when Williams was an undergrad.
