Brian Williams' future hangs on "morality clause" in contract

"Sources say that a “public morals” clause that appears in NBC News employees’ paperwork includes the verbiage:

‘“If artist commits any act or becomes involved in any situation, or occurrence, which brings artist into public disrepute, contempt, scandal or ridicule, or which justifiably shocks, insults or offends a significant portion of the community, or if publicity is given to any such conduct . . . company shall have the right to terminate.”’

"Reports have said NBC execs seriously considered firing Williams before settling on the suspension.
NBC declined to comment, and Barnett didn’t get back to us."

IMO Any one who supports him is suspect of embellishing their stories as well. Why else would you take up for a liar. jmo idk

Best-selling author and former Navy SEAL adds voice to growing chorus claiming that Brian Williams lied about SEAL Team 6 involvement

Williams claimed on the Nightly News in 2011 that he had flown with SEAL Team 6 at the start of the war in 2003

Ex-SEAL Brandon Webb has revealed that that is impossible as the team didn't go to Iraq until a month after the start of the war

Webb criticized Williams for his 'narcissist-fueled campaign of self-indulgence' that he said was 'unacceptable'

He also strongly disputed Williams' claim that he was given a piece of the stealth helicopter from the mission to kill Bin Laden

So I guess David Corn (who has Mother Jones website) has called out Bill O'Relly for lying about something he said happened during the Falklands war. I've not quite figured out all of the details yet, but this story says O'Reilly did lie:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...s-coverage-expense-account-zone-war-zone.html

I can't stand O'Reilly either--major ego and a blowhard, IMO. I love to see him go too, but since his is an opinion show, not sure it will happen.

I love that Geraldo and Charlie Sheen have defended him. :laughcry:
Sometimes a defense is NOT a good thing! :twocents:

Here's the truth ... everything I’ve said about my reportorial career ... everything ... is true.

I never said I was on the Falkland Islands ... as Corn purports ... I said I covered the Falklands War ... which I did.

I'm interested in how all this plays out. Even if it turns out O'Reilly is telling the truth, I still won't like him--he just rubs me the wrong way.

The floodgates are open. They'll probably get something on Walter Cronkite.. lol.

Too funny Mr. Happy! It looks like everyone is digging for dirt on everyone!

I've been watching the Bill O'Reilly stories of the past few days and wondered if they would pick up steam. it looks like there is a lot of coverage so I'll go start a thread for him.

Walter is close but they are on bob and dan right now.

When O’Reilly filed the footage, he thought he had nailed it for sure. No doubt he would lead Rather’s newscast. “Nope,” O’Reilly wrote. “In perhaps the most stunning thing that has ever happened to me, all the videotape was taken away from me and given to a big-name correspondent.”

Engberg, however, wrote in his post that O’Reilly was overreacting to a routine editing decision. When a superior “informed O’Reilly that [Bob] Schieffer would be doing the report, which would not include any segment from O’Reilly, the reporter exploded.

“Dan Rather walked into my office and shut the door,” Roberts wrote.

(I vote for Lester)

Forty-two percent of registered voters think NBC should allow Brian Williams to anchor “NBC Nightly News,” while 35 percent think they should not give him another chance after his suspension.

http://www.politico.com/story/2015/03/fox-news-trusted-network-poll-115887.html

Maybe it's me but 42 & 35 is 77, I wonder what the missing 23 percent think. Add me to the 35 percent.

bbm

I think they should not give him back the desk. I think they should find something else for him to do at the network. A news anchor is supposed to stick to ALL FACTS. not commentary or stories of greatness.
