Yes she is. It wouldn't surprise me if this was a planned and coordinated effort. Without knowing these kids, but knowing the closeness of my own siblings in times of hardship growing up, a part of me is very hopeful about this group of siblings.

In my hometown there was a family who had an astonishing 14 children. We all, in our various age groups went to school together k-12, and the whole town knew someone in this family. The dynamics in a family that big is amazing. They were a happy bunch.

When I read that these kids were stable in the hospital, polite, sweet, hoped for a better situation, in addition to food, a part of me thinks, the part that really hopes, believes that in a dynamic this big these kids knew a closeness of love, friendship, and support with each other that sustained them to this amazing breakout point.

I truly hope they will be able to journey together as they are their only world. And now, it's like they are orphans. This is a unique case but I worry because what will be asked of them in the trial of their parents?

BBM I agree with you. I thought about the trial today and pray that the parents will just plead guilty and if they have an ounce of love for their kids. My fear is a rock star defense attorney will take this on because of the exposure, Mark Garagos or Jose Baez comes to mind. My other fear is that the kids won't all stick together and some of them will want a relationship with and want to help the parents because they are so brain washed.

Article I didn't see - BBM:
http://www.fox4news.com/news/couple-accused-of-chaining-up-13-children-lived-in-north-texas

Authorities say David and Louise Turpin still carry Texas driver’s licenses with addresses for a house just south of Rio Vista.

Ricky and Shelli Vinyard live across the gravel road. They always thought something was a little off about the Turpin family.

"Whenever we heard this morning on the news, I was 'Man, sounds like those Turpins,’” Ricky said.

The Vinyards say one of the daughters ran away while the Turpins were living here and was returned home.

Hill County's chief deputy says it may have happened, but his office only has records of two contacts with the family: once in 2001 when a 4-year-old daughter was bitten by a dog and again in 2003 when the Turpins’ pigs ate 55 pounds of a neighbor’s dog food.

Disturbing if true that that one child tried to escape previously (that we have heard of) only to be returned to that nightmare.

My fingers are crossed that they will plead guilty. Their kids have been through enough.

I finally realized who he reminds me of: Captain Kangaroo.

There you have it. I loved Capt. Kangaroo, and Mr. Green Jeans. Now this guy is who I'll think of when that little childhood memory pops up!! :gaah:

Take a look at the Vegas videos - in two of them (I only watched part of two videos) he is sweating so much he needs to wipe his face with a tissue. That happened two times, in years apart. He was not comfortable. That's not a reaction I'd expect from Mr. Patriarch calling the shots. I think he was doing what his wife wanted.

Just because I see him as a passive partner in the marriage doesn't mean he's off the hook. He is absolutely responsible just like she is. By not taking action, he was part of the problem, most definitely, 100%.

And I acknowledge I could be off base. I'll change my mind as needed. Jmopinion at the moment.

BBM I thought he was crying too.

Do you think Louise's sister was there for the conception and births? Heck if she had ever even been in the home she's a part of it all. She only knows what she was told by Louise and David, do you honestly think they would have admitted if any of the kids were the result of incest? Believe me this is one of the most urgent matters LE is assessing.

The sister has contradicted herself multiple times now. IMO, she has no credibility.

Four sons?!

RSBM

Thought that there were three sons.
Also curious if any of their children died... and it wasn't reported -- but covered up.
As in... buried quietly in the dead of night ? :(

Sorry... as of now-- I will not give these "parents' a pass at all. I believe they're evil to the rotten core.
Imagine, if you will, the cries of a child or young adult -- from HUNGER ?
Prison camps in WW2 and since then have used hunger and shackles to control and dehumanize prisoners.
How were these poor children any different ?

Growing kids need nourishment, sunlight, room to grow, and social interaction !!

The privation the Turpin children suffered likely went on for DECADES -- nearly 3 of them for the oldest daughter !! :gaah:

Some news sources claim the parents are not mentally ill. They knew what they were doing.

For now... I am uncomfortable with any of those children being placed with relatives.
29-30 years is a long time to abuse those children and not one relative took it upon themselves to take serious action !

No. No. No. No. Fingers in my ears, hands over eyes.

I loved Captain Kangaroo and this man will not sully my memory!

(Now that I think about it, I disliked his haircut even when I was a kid. Loved the show, though.)

I must’ve missed this particular photo on their FB page, but here the children are all lined up from the oldest to youngest.

Thank you so much for that photo. New baby Thing#13 so the photo is from 2015?

-the older girls all have dark circles under their eyes from starvation and they look dull-eyed, brainwashed
-they all seem to naturally pose as groups/pairs: two oldest girls #1 and #3, and two oldest boys #2 and #4; Thing#5 and #6 enmeshed; Thing #7 and 8 head tilt to each other, one mind; Thing#9 boy is arms-crossed and standalone, very emaciated but has a spark in his eyes (appropriate defiance?); Things #10,11,12 are a group.
-Thing#7 or #8 is now the 17 year old who escaped. I am betting on #8 because of her leg stance with foot out, more relaxed, the others are all stiff and at attention. I bet Thing#7 and #8 planned the escape together.

Maybe this question is too early..I'm wondering if CPS will seek to remove parental custody of the younger children, those not yet adult aged? Geez, I'd like to be sure these parents never have access to even look at them again. Extended family? Not in my book! No way, not any of them. Just my opinion.

LE stated yesterday in the presser that seven adults were together at one hospital and the others at another, the 17year old is with the minors so than maybe #8 is the shero?

"David Turpin stands with his adult offspring as he and his wife renewed their vows at a chapel in Las Vegas. The offspring were identified by Teresa Robinette, the sister of mother Louise Turpin, who also confirmed that the children are all biologically from Louise and David Turpin. In same cases only an estimated age was given and some spellings are phonetic.*via Facebook"

Ah, in the picture identifying the adults, these children, they look very sweet.... I don't think they have been to a dentist, certainly not an orthodontist. And, I don't know what condition causes the eyes to cross, or how that child is coping but he obviously has not been to an eye doctor.

This kind of neglect is so unconscionable as they were not poor, choosing new houses, cars, trips, etc...

Reading your comments and your input has given me a lot of food for thought. It's so hard to understand and realize how demented some people are in our world when you've been fortunate to grow up in a loving home and environment. So many of us on WS come here because we're stunned by a recent event and need an outlet to discuss these horrific crimes and there are many who on here who have experienced the very thing we're discussing - even though every story and situation is different. Your comments remind us how personal these experiences really are. None of us will understand exactly what those kids are feeling and have gone through, but being surrounded by people like yourself that have survived it will hopefully begin the long road to healing. Thank you for sharing, Iona. The fact that you told us how the pain comes in waves reminds me of how we grieve our loved ones deaths. We think we're fine (and we really are getting better) and suddenly a wave will hit and bring us to our knees. Different circumstances but the pain is real and raw.

I believe she tried or another sibling tried to tell someone too. She knew she had to have the proof and as a friend of mine said when we were discussing this, she had the presence of mind to know what was going on is wrong. So at some point in their life they must have experienced something more than what they were living.

Bestill... I [emoji177] your username, that is my mantra... Just , thank you , big hugs back to you and all of Websleuths[emoji847]

I believe you are right. If 7 children are in the "18 and older" group, then "thing 7" would be in that group, leaving "thing 8" as the 17 year old.

I know. I loved that show! I'll never look at Captain Kangaroo the same. Though I never did like his hair! 🙈

Sadly this reminded me of the neighbor seeing the kids spreading sod at night while the mom watched them. Ugh<br>

Not necessarily did they experience a better life. IME, sometimes you notice other children when you are out in public
and it dawns on you that not all family homes are rat's nest. You notice some other parents who seem kind ALL the time. You notice your abusive parents' public face and then their nasty, mean private face. You realize that life as you have to live is not fair and you want to try to make it FAIR. You decide to do something about it and hope it works. You take the risk to get out and get your siblings out. to make life more FAIR.
