Thanks for keeping us in the loop, @Sustained. You know I'm curious. Wasco State Prison is in Kern county and is inland from San Luis Obispo. From articles I stumbled upon, and it's no surprise, lots of gang affiliated inmates. Found an article about an inmate that came from the San Diego area and was only serving three years when he lost his life being fatally beaten by other inmates in Aug. 2024. Well, Ali Abulaban had that, what I call, "a prison tutor", and it sounds like he had better heed what he was told. ​

Feb. 1, 1991, marked the opening of the department’s first all-new reception center and prison at Wasco. Inmates arrived by bus to begin occupying the 2,484-bed facility.

The 1,784-bed reception center will provide short-term housing for inmates while they are processed, classified and evaluated to determine their security level and institutional placement.​

Wasco State Prison honors 30 years of service

Wasco State Prison-Reception Center (WSP-RC) celebrated 30 years of public service. The event featured a cook-off, cart show and carnival.
