Here's where I get stuck, though:

Scenario 1: We just saw this exact situation play out in the Rousseau case.
Husband gave a presser and said what he thought happened to his wife and daughter.
He thought they had been abducted.
He thought wrong.

They'd gone voluntarily missing.

Scenario 2: We also just saw this exact situation happen. Dude went inexplicably missing, co-worker was even here on WS posting, dude's brother was gravely ill/dying, and nobody knew what to make of it.
He was located.

He'd gone voluntarily missing.

You also have the other recent missing hiker who was out with her spouse, that Powell case.

We all know how that one turned out.

So there's that, too.

Yeah, good points. How to parse things out related to Barbara's disappearance if you consider other cases of late is anyone's guess, IMO. Still, she disappeared under unusual circumstances. With no witnesses except her dear hubby to corroborate anything, JMO

Haven't tested it yet, but was wondering if a loud scream would be heard in the conditions we are looking at. five to ten mins distance in a barren landscape. Maybe not near a busy road, but busy seems very relative in this case.

I think even a slight breeze would almost eliminate the ability to hear at any distance, except directly downwind. JMO

Not in the middle of the day when she disappeared in 90 plus degree heat in the middle of the desert. No nasty critters would be out and about then, IMO.

I've just been wondering if anyone else thinks it's somewhat unusual for LE/SAR to continue their search to the degree they seem to have, after a week's time? Considering the terrain and temps, I'm a little surprised they have not scaled way back or suspended the search for Barb yet. I'm very glad they haven't, but it'll be interesting when and if we get a more detailed update.
My thoughts and opinions are now officially going in circles. They are also going in different directions than initially.. Bump for Barbara!

There has been lots of discussion here about what BT might have actually been wearing when she went missing. There have also been questions about why RT stated ..."because, well, she WAS wearing a bikini"... as if that totally explained why someone would want to abduct her. To me, he kind of sounded accusatory, as he didn't approve of what she wore and had warned her of this very thing.

The person on Social Media (initials LRR) referring to her missing "Aunt Barbara," made an interesting comment about BT's possible clothing.

The niece's first post on her Facebook page about BT missing is July 13. In the comments, the niece posted a picture of BT wearing yellow capris. Check out the replies to that image.

She was planning a trip out of the country in a couple days and that would have been the perfect opportunity to go voluntarily missing. A woman wouldn’t voluntarily go missing without taking her expensive hair and face products and vitamins, etc.

I wish we knew when the picture of her in the black bikini top and red hat was taken. IMO She looks much younger in that picture. When the story broke it was the only photo that was released. Her description was given as wearing a black bikini, red hat and blonde hair. It was a description of her as she was in that picture, minus the sunglasses. Now her hair is obviously white, not blonde.

In the other photos, Barbara is dressed modestly. I doubt she’d be running around the desert in just a bikini. Maybe bikini top and shorts, but not a full bikini. Something’s off.

They were about 20 miles north of Interstate 40, east of Kelbaker Road.

Thomas was last seen wearing a black bikini, a red baseball cap, and tan hiking boots.

UPDATE #2:
The search is moving into the third day for Barbara Thomas in the Mohave desert. Barbara was last seen in the area of Kelbaker / Hidden Hills near the I-40. The search involves numerous Search & Rescue members, deputies, K9’s, Sheriff’s Aviation(helicopter) and Park Rangers.

There have been no sightings of her at this time. The temperatures today hovered around 104 degrees.

Thomas’ husband told KTNV that they took their trailer to the desert for the weekend. They were close to the RV when Robert stopped to take a picture.

“By the time I took the picture she was continuing on because she wanted to get to the RV,” he said. “And she rounded the corner and I lost sight of her.”

He suspects something happened when she crossed a highway. “My feeling is that she was picked up because she had to cross a highway. She was wearing a bikini and she had a beer in her hand.”

He said she may be in the Las Vegas area.

UPDATE #7
Friday, July 19th, the search continues this morning for Barbara Thomas. Search and Rescue members are utilizing off road vehicles, K9 units and hikers. The search resumed just after sunrise this morning. The search will include aerial support throughout the day.

There has been no evidence of Barbara Thomas located on previous days. Temperatures are expected to reach over 100 degrees.

Abduction theory is odd. How would that even happen? A vehicle pulls up and pulls her in? Then drives off with her. Doesn’t sound plausible unless if it was at gunpoint maybe

If that photo is not from the day she disappeared, then what? She wears that same combination a lot? Black bra or bikini top and red hat...and hubby uses it to describe what she was last seen wearing. Not necessarily strange iykwim...could be her favorite desert attire.

@oviedo - if you follow the Twitter breadcrumbs, you can find her son’s “public” statements (via his FB). I would guess the media are not reaching out to him? I would hope that LE has.

Is he repeating there what the husband is suggesting with the abduction theory? Or is that his own conclusion. I'm wondering about that.
