I've brought this up too many times. Family was heavily involved in scouting, a parent was a leader, a sibling is listed as becoming an Eagle Scout. Nothing on SW. There are some other troops in the area, so I guess it's possible. One produces a ton of Eagle Scouts. I would have expected to be able to find home doing a service project or see a mention in a newspaper.
I remember reading somewhere that it was actually his brother Clay that's the Eagle Scout.

There isn't a national directory. My nephew, who is SW's age, is an eagle scout. I know he did community projects that I thought were in the local news at the time. So I did a search of his name and eagle scout on Google, but didn't pull a single thing up.

So it's certainly possible that SW was an Eagle Scout and we just can't find mention of it.

Omg -I just remembered that Penn's campus was plastered with Nazi propaganda posters last year; this hadn't happened in a very long long time... so I pulled up pictures of them and they are from the Atomwaffen Division!!!! https://www.google.com/amp/s/cdn.re...-recruiting-posters-yanked-from-penns-campus/

This was an odd attack bc usually when the racist or anti LGBT people come to campus to spew hate, they hit all Philadelphia schools -St Joes Penn and Temple - these Nazi posters were only distributed at Penn ...

Sw was a member of this division then and He knew BB was at Penn ... wondering if he had anything to do with his group's poster attack at Penn. And it says these flyers were apparently downloaded from a gmail account ...

Yep, seems like BB was targeted by SW.

Experts possibly Anti Defamation League.

SW sources. 3 people with knowledge...detailed knowledge...2 friends...from social media...1 acquaintence.

Acquaintance, a person known slightly.

Atomwaffen uses nazi imagery. Group photo imagery a hand singal. See the photo through the belief of neo nazi, hand seen as a "salute." However seeing thru training camp detail, the response to "any questions" is raising hand. Therefore, the photographic evidence of atomwaffen is from the sources mouths.

IMO, a "news" report based on hearsay harms the legal process. LE has to waste money trying to locate the sources of photographs & confirm rather information is false or true. While defense investigators have access to question SW directly. [FONT=&amp]

You left out these referenced sources:

The young man is proficient with both handguns and assault rifles, according to one person who participated in the Texas training and watched him shoot. That person also said that Woodward helped organize a number of Atomwaffen members in California.

Social media posts and chat logs shared by Woodward’s friends show that he openly described himself as a “National Socialist” or Nazi. He “was as anti-Semitic as you can get,” according to one acquaintance.

The significance being that one source is someone who was at the camp with SW and saw him participate in training.

However seeing thru training camp detail, the response to "any questions" is raising hand. Therefore, the photographic evidence of atomwaffen is from the sources mouths.

MOO: Reasonable people are able to distinguish between a Nazi salute and three people in training simultaneously raising their hands to ask a question. IMO, the photo clearly show the former, not the latter.

To clarify, are you stating that you believe the photo shows three people raising their hands to ask a question?

<snipped> IMO, a "news" report based on hearsay harms the legal process. LE has to waste money trying to locate the sources of photographs & confirm rather information is false or true.<snipped>

IMO, the news media is reporting on SW's involvement in a hate group based on multiple confirmed sources who are friends of SW's, participated with SW in Atomwaffen training and are members of Atomwaffen. In many high-profile cases, investigators -- including investigative reporters -- need to utilize information provided by sources who wish to remain anonymous or confidential. When that is the case, responsible investigators and reporters confirm the information provided through multiple sources and secondary evidence. For a famous example of a confidential source, please see the Wiki entry on Deep Throat (Watergate).

Why remain anonymous? In some cases, the informant(s) may be guilty of criminal behavior. An informant may not wish for unsavory affiliations, such as to an extremist hate group that has been linked to multiple murders by members, to be made public. An informant may have essential information of criminal behavior by powerful people and/or organizations and thus may be a retaliation target if his/her identity is known. There are many legitimate reasons why informants retain anonymity, and why law enforcement and the news media recognize and protect confidential informants.

Finally, the news media is not an arm of the prosecution or the defense. Whether SW's demonstrated affiliation with hate groups played a role in the murder of BB is most likely (IMO) of strong interest to LE and the prosecution, so sourced reporting in the news media is unlikely to be a "waste of money." It's part of LE's separate investigation.

To clarify, are you stating that LE investigating SW's affiliation with hate groups is a "waste of money?"

<snipped> While defense investigators have access to question SW directly.

What does this have to do with news media reporting or LE's investigation into SW's murder of BB?

To clarify, are you stating that the only account you will accept regarding SW's affiliation with hate groups will be statements by his defense attorney and by SW?

Thanks, DizzyB, pamelado2 and vmmking. I tried a few searches and couldn't find anything to confirm that SW is an eagle scout. I don't have a background in scouting, though, and so appreciate the input from others with more knowledge.

IMO, I consider this to be unconfirmed, similar to how I viewed SW's membership in hate groups until his affiliation was reported by MSM.

I also consider it to be unconfirmed. One thing I found while looking for a national directory online was a scouting forum where it was being discussed. One person thought one should be created. A response to this was that if one existed, they could be sure that people against the scouts would combine the directory and report about all the unsavory folks who have been Eagle Scouts. This is probably true, and I think that most likely one will never be published. If one exists, it exists only for the eyes of scout leadership.

Just want to clarify this one thing...

If a source says, “I heard SW went to a Nazi camp” or even “SW told me he went to a nazi camp”, that’s hearsay.

But if a source says, “I went to a nazi camp and SW was there with me”, that’s not hearsay.

Sounds like the reporter may have some of each.

Ok, assuming SW would have been in the same troop as his brother, I found a share site with photos from 2011. I believe I found a photo of SW, but is it ok to post it? Since he would have been a minor at the time and I’m not 100% positive it is him.

I am a little disturbed at the stretches gone to try to defend a proud nazi

One thing that always amazes me about cases involving affluent or even wealthy defendants is the total waste of oppurtunity:

- The defendant is from at least an affluent, and possibly even genuinely wealthy family. They have the means to live in an affluent area and to send their son to out of state schools.

- I doubt the defendant ever lacked for either attention or material things. Rather, in all probably had each in abundance.

- He has not only the freedoms of the US to enjoy, but his financial back ground allows him to enjoy them in comfort. I doubt his parents were pushing a relentless study or work routine.

- These freedoms include the freedom to pal around with a huge variety of socio political extremists (definitely not recommended) in whose company one can spend long "enjoyable" idle hours chatting, ranting and drinking over any subject one wants- so long as a line into directly advocating violence is not crossed.

All that was probably asked of the defendant so far in life was not to commit any felonies, stay away from drug sales- at least the large scale ones, and....not commit murder.

Seems so easy.

I wonder why SW went to OCSA. It just doesn't seem like a good fit. Was he ever involved in the arts?

That was my thought too esp since the vast majority of Nazi flyers on college campuses this last year were from other Nazi groups -Identity Europa and Arian underground or Daily Stormer .. I can only find one other instance of hate flyers coming from Atomwaffen division and that was at Boston University years before this incident... but ALL of the Nazi flyers left at any PA school were not by Atomwaffen Division except the U Penn incidence ....

I have no idea how to contact the DA with this tip...? Any ideas?

His Facebook, Twitter or his website.

He must have been, and demonstrated some talent, or he wouldn't have gotten in.

I really can't remember where but some early story said he did an interpretive dance for a school performance his first year. Also took acting. But he was reportedly more conservative than the other students, and liked to express his views. I'm sure it didn't go over well. Too bad he wasn't more flexible and able to modify his views and fit in.

Instead he eventually found people as crazy or crazier than himself who accepted his views and took them to a really nutty sicko level. I just can't see how this happens to a reasonably intelligent kid. But it looks like he was enjoying himself in the group photos. Maybe it was the first time he had friends? Can't really see how anyone who knows a tiny bit of history can adopt these views...must be very twisted inside somehow. But I've seen friends get brainwashed (albeit all peace and love and guru worship) when they got involved with a cultish group just after the death of a loved one. Maybe something traumatic happened to Sam? just grasping at straws.

MOO
