Suspected Antioch kidnapper admits to abducting 7-year-old in exclusive jailhouse interview

MARTINEZ -- In an exclusive jailhouse interview Monday, David Douglas admitted to kidnapping a 7-year-old Antioch girl, calling the abduction a "cry for help" after his life swirled out of control.

The 43-year-old man, who described himself as homeless and unemployed, insisted he did not sexually assault the girl, as police have said they suspect. Instead, Douglas said, he spent the four hours after the abduction trying to calm her, even buying her food from McDonald's.

"It was a cry for help to get out of a situation," Douglas said numerous times during the 30-minute interview at County Jail in Martinez, although he struggled to explain what the "situation" is.

"Do I look like a child molester?" Douglas, who sported close-cropped hair and wore a yellow jail jumpsuit, asked a reporter repeatedly. "I'm not."

Comments by Douglas, as well as court documents, also allude to mental illness.

This guy is unbelievable! La Shay (spelling?) said she saw Douglas with his shirt off in the back seat. Liar.

Oh, wow.

Antioch kidnapping: Pittsburg Target store employee cracks case, police say

Roxanna Ramirez spends most of her time making sure Target shoppers don't steal diapers or beer from her Pittsburg store.

But last Friday, thanks to a "weird feeling" she got about a man in the store that morning, the loss prevention specialist figured prominently in the rescue of an abducted 7-year-old girl she has never met.

On Monday, police lauded the 22-year-old for her quick-thinking actions -- notably, recording the man's vehicle license plate number -- that helped crack the case of a little girl kidnapped Friday night from her Antioch home. Detectives have arrested David Douglas on suspicion of kidnapping, saying the homeless Antioch man

Ok. I keep running across new news. Just wanted to say that it's obvious to me now from reading fb posts of DD & this big ole story he is creating, he appears very very pretentious. Not honest and a fake. In other words lies like a dog. jmo

Good luck with that story, hope you take the stand too during trial.

Good grief...Apparently LaShay did not come on the scene till after the officers were there...Roxanna Ramirez was the true hero.

Police also clarified the role of Le Shay Burks, who had spoken to this newspaper and many other media outlets saying she came across the kidnapper and the girl and flagged down police. On Monday, Brooks said Burks did not arrive at the scene until after an Antioch investigator had taken Douglas into custody. http://www.contracostatimes.com/new...g-pittsburg-target-store-employee-cracks-case

...so apparently he was staying with his stepfather (and mother?) I assume....and they kicked him out and had a restraining order against him.His wife left him.Yet his real father is his biggest fan and seems to understand his struggles.
And here he talks about his conversations with God again,he supposedly told the little girl he was an angel send from God ....
I'm still hoping against all odds that there really was no sexual assault and that there is something mentally very wrong with this man.

On the one hand he looks to have been a good father for his son, but all those updates seem to just serve validation purposes for him... offered mostly by his father, who I would bet has done a whole lot of enabling/encouraging. Not blaming grandpa; he couldn't have seen the bigger picture until it was too late.

Vortex marketing is largely a scam unless you're willing to put in 80 hour weeks making it work for you, at which point you probably have acquired the skills to do something a little more legitimate. No offense to anyone it's worked for but it's definitely sucked some of my friends in when they were in high school. I don't know what to make of his constant career related boasting. "Everything-is-dandy" social media highlight reel syndrome I guess.

I wonder who he was trying to blame in the statement below. He seems to forget his words he's trying to convey throughout the interview... With his perfect life & his parenting skills was he trying to hard to be an overachieiver? He had been homeless for over a month and portrayed the perfect parent with good jobs. Some thought he was his childs caretaker just from reading fb & viewing all the fun things he did with his child. Looks can be decieving. For some reason, I think he might think it's everyone elses fault...

Asked why he picked that girl, he said it was a "setup," and that it was "arranged by the ..." He paused for more than a minute, saying he was searching for the right word, and never finished the sentence.

Might be why he asked for a cryptologists?

This might be one of the cases where schizophrenia rears its ugly head and delusions are the basis for the actions. Such as cult leaders who believe child brides are the way to god or something similarly delusional. I don't think it makes his actions less reprehensible it just gives me thought he might have gotten help and this would never had happened, if people knew of it

I agree.I thought this was interesting as well.
"Shankey wrote that the screaming had extended over a three-month period before Nov. 20, focusing on Douglas' anger about his job search failures and his family's failure to get him an appointment with a college psychology department."
Was he planning on studying psychology? Was he trying to figure out what is wrong with him himself? Why was he blaming his family not to get him an appointment,he's a grown up,why couldn't he do that himself?

This was posted about 15 hours ago & take it to mean more than what has been reported already.

They upped his bail $3.15 million! So much for trying to console her...bad words...

He's going to have a hard time explaining away those charges to his family & friends etc... Can't wait to hear it...

I think he is faking his 'symptoms' of schizophrenia. I think he just wants us to believe he is crazy as opposed to the horrible truth that he is just a twisted pedophile. JMO

Me too. I am always there when someone does have mental problems and it's easier to spot after seeing it first hand over the years but for some reason it's not coming across that way with this guy at all. With additional charges & the high bail, it doesn't look like they believe it either. jmo

Guess this is a teaser from this station. Charging documents, first page picture of it. I blew it up and one thing was stated that he had a pipe as a weapon.
