It would be amazing if a friend or family member recognised one of the items:

The items, which include fine china and jewelry, were released with the hope that someone might recognize these items taken by the Golden State Killer, also known as the East Area Rapist.

"Because of the fact of the age of the crimes and the age that this individual may be, certainly, this is one of our last opportunities to get this individual identified," FBI public affairs specialist Gina Swankie said. "Certainly, those people that might have the best information about our subject, they're aging as well."

I read through the whole site this week (ears-ons). Very scary. When I listened to the tape, for some reason I thought "hospital" as the back ground noises. Not sure why.

I also wonderred if parts of the tape were cut out for the investigation, causing the apparent breaks in the sound.

But, what is it with the music at the end of the tape? I was assuming the website people added that for dramatic affect, and think it shouldn't have been added. (it's dramatic enough).

I also thought of BTK with the tying knots, and how this guy apparently acted like he wanted to steal things, but never stole them - kind of a like a distraction so he could think. I think I read Dennis RAder did that or something similar.

One more thing - I did'nt see this mentioned so I assume it is ruled out. But could this be the Zodiac? Didn't he get mad and say he would kill more but they (LE) wouldn't know it was him? And Zodiac also went after couples.

I've also wondered if it could be the zodiac OR if he was inspired by the zodiac. The Zodiac also said he was going to rob 2 of his victims in order to subdue them and tie them up easier, but he ended up attacking them anyhow. The robbery was a trick to make them more willing to comply and not run away.

a Taurus is the bull in the zodiac. ;)
 
The scariest thing about all of this is that LE has his DNA. The fact that it didn't light up someone already in CODIS is bone chilling. That means Ear/Ons has likely never been arrested for a major crime and had his DNA submitted. This also means it is highly likely that he either stopped killing once DNA was collected from inmates - did he stop b/c he was killed? I'd like to think since his behavior kept escalating he likely was shot by someone during a home invasion and killed. JMO

(I can bet this is how EAR/ONS stopped killing... he died.) I am really interested in who this man was. He did do 5 years in his past so I'm not sure he could be our guy, but it still makes me wonder. If he was incarcerated between 1976 and 1986 it isn't him.

I wish I could see what Hill looked like. For the record, the orange county EAR/ONS killings/investigations began around 1980-1981 - around the time when OC police said they believed Hill began raping/robbing. The last attack was in may of 86. Hill killed himself in June of 86. Just some interesting coincidences.

On some occasions, he would enter homes when no one was home days or weeks prior to his attacks so he could learn about his future victims. He put on fake accents, like German or Chinese, in an attempt to throw detectives off his trail.

I had heard about this case, and knew they had the killer's DNA, but I never knew much about the details until reading the PEOPLE magazine article a week ago. And I just saw the PEOPLE Investigation Discovery special, too. My impression is that the killer was inspired by the Zodiac and his killings, and the way he manipulated the media–all of which was still happening in the mid 70's when he started his rape spree. But EAR/ONS could not have been the Zodiac as he was much younger at the time as his victims stated he looked early 20's in age. I also saw and read his "Excitement's Crave" poem (December 11, 1977) that he sent the The Sacramento Bee, the Sacramento mayor's office, and the KVIE 6 TV station. The poem with its peculiar strange verbiage is hauntingly reminiscent of the desk poem that was carved into the wood at Riverside Community College in 1966 after the brutal murder of Cheri Joe Bates–who police think was the Zodiac's first kill. And it was after the December 11th poem mailing, I think, is when police got a call from EAR/ONS that night saying he was going to strike on Watt Avenue. If was then, a few hours later, Sacramento deputies saw a masked man riding his bike across the Watt Avenue Bridge around 2 AM, but lost him in the chase. And then a few hours later around 4 AM, city police saw him, and lost pursuit when he ditched the bike and fled on foot. In a nutshell, I think his poem was inspired by the Bates/Riverside Desk Poem.

He also tracked down one of his victims in 1989, if I remember correctly, with a new married surname, and living out of state of CA, and called her. She told police it was him.

Also in the PEOPLE ID episode, it was stated that there was a feature about him that was related to authorities by his rape victims–that he had a short penis. This could be a driving MO behind his anger for women. That his shortcomings never helped further his natural sex life and relationships with women. And it could have been made known from other kids while growing up–causing deep embarrassment, humiliation, and teasing from girls.
 
Been thinking about this case. I wonder if there is the possibility that EAR/ONS is LISK? (The Long Island Serial Killer). He went from West coast to East Coast. EAR/ONS psychological profile states: "Engaged in sex with prostitutes."

And LISK also calls the friends and family of his murdered victims to taunt them. I wonder if the FBI has considered this since taking over both cases this last year?

EAR/ONS never was known to kill prostitues or move victims after they were dead. I really doubt LISK is EAR/ONS.
 
I'm not sure I believe he is LISK. I think EAR/ONS is likely deceased now. I believe with the rate of his attacks and how he was escalating with his crimes that it would be a matter of time before he was apprehended or killed. They do have his DNA and I believe if he were still committing crimes at the same frequency since 1986 he would have slipped up by now, leave some DNA, and been apprehended. You can't get it right every time - especially if you are a murderer/rapist/thief. I do think your theory is interesting though and it has me thinking ;) just not so sure about it.
 
oh and for clarification on why he MIGHT have had a bull tattoo on his forearm - not only is taurus represented by the bull, but also there is the chinese zodiac and the year of the ox - which could also look like a bull.


Ox is the second in the 12-year cycle of Chinese zodiac sign. Years of the Ox include 1913, 1925, 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, 2021, 2033... Oxen used to be capable farming tools in agricultural society, which attach to the symbol of diligence, persistence and honesty.

That was written by the late crime writer, Michelle McNamara, who passed away in April 2016 while writing a book on her research about the EAR/ONS case. Her husband, actor and comedian, Patton Oswalt, gave the okay for two of her colleagues to help finish the book, which is to released sometime in 2018. His interview about his wife, her passion for the case, and her death was featured on 48 HOURS on CBS and is available for free online.
 
“Hey, OK, don’t hurt me,” he said in a squeaky voice, reaching with one hand to peel off his mask. But it was a mime trick; with his other hand he fired a shot at McGowen. The bullet shattered McGowen’s flashlight, sending shards into his eyes. The Ransacker jumped a fence and escaped. The plundering in Visalia stopped. Months later the East Area Rapist attacks in Sacramento began.”

This has always intrigued me. Shooting a pistol is not easy. Especially when you are wearing a ski mask, and running from a cop that just took a shot at you!
To turn, raise a gun, and shoot out a flash light, is extremely impressive.
With his ability to get into houses, and leave the area in a stealth pattern, let alone the marksmanship, points me in the direction of a special operations personnel. Ranger, Green Beret, Seal, or Recon Marine.

Was he trying to shoot the flashlight? Why wouldn't he try to shoot McGowen?
