“San Jose police officers located Lorenzo’s deceased body around 4:38 a.m. on Saturday at a recycling facility in San Jose.”

4:38 a.m.??

I'm thinking they were looking for her 24/7, not 9-5. JMO

There are industries that don't follow 9/5 hours, and waste management is one of them in many parts of the world, because it's easier to do trash pickup when the streets are empty.

Here, our garbage and recycling pick up tends to be between four and six am.

SJPD immediately launched a homicide investigation, as it does for every child’s death in its jurisdiction, department spokesperson Sgt. Jose Garibay told The Standard.

“Child deaths are incredibly meticulous investigations that require a variety of evidence and follow-up to determine a cause and manner of death,” he wrote in an email Saturday.

[...]

“Going forward, the San Jose Police Department will lead the homicide investigation,” Fremont police spokesperson Amy Gee told The Standard on Saturday evening. “However, the Fremont Police Department will continue to support Ellie’s family and assist San Jose in any way possible with the investigation.”

Have there been any updates about the investigation into her father’s death? Was it officially confirmed to be a suicide, or was that just speculation/rumor?

Seems we’d hear more from LE if they thought it was a homicide.

"The mother of the three-year-old girl called us, asking if we can check on her welfare at her father's apartment, located here in Fremont," said Fremont Police Sgt. Kim McDonald at a late night news conference. "The mother of the child got news that the father was deceased in San Francisco and the child was not with him at that time. The Fremont police department went to his apartment in Fremont and the child was not located there."

At about 4 p.m. Saturday, a line of official cars began entering the complex. Police were seen in Lorenzo's apartment, presumedly searching for clues about how the two deaths may be connected. San Jose and Fremont police will be investigating the discovery of the child's body. At this point, San Francisco police are coordinating the investigation of Jared Lorenzo's death.

I tried so hard not to think he would kill his own baby girl. So hard. :(

According to Ellie’s mother, the little girl was killed by her father after he found out that Ellie and her mother were moving away from the San Francisco Bay Area.

The San Jose Police Department confirmed on Tuesday that Ellie’s father, 42-year-old Jared Lorenzo, is Ellie’s suspected killer.

Obi said she constantly feared for Ellie’s safety with her father, but the courts “continued to grant him partial custody and access.”

“Last week, on Tuesday I finally received confirmation that the courts would allow me to move with Ellie out of state, of which he also became aware.”

Detectives said Lorenzo and Ellie drove to Lorenzo's apartment in Fremont. Investigators said the next day, Lorenzo left his apartment just after 6 a.m. and drove to the city of San Jose where he removed Ellie's body from the trunk of his vehicle and threw her body away in a trash receptacle. That receptacle was unknowingly transferred to the Charles Street facility, police said.

Police said evidence shows Lorenzo drove to multiple Bay Area cities before finally stopping in San Francisco.

On Monday, we learned the father died by suicide in a police news conference. A San Francisco Tenderloin business owner told KTVU they partially witnessed his death on Friday when, after a loud bang and horns beeping, they stepped out of their barber shop and saw the lifeless man on the ground, just steps from her businesses' front door. KTVU learned Lorenzo had jumped off a building on O'Farrell Street at around 10 a.m. on Friday.

Her parents divorced in 2021 and had been battling over child custody ever since, according to Santa Clara County court records.

According to his LinkedIn page, Lorenzo recently studied corporate finance as a master’s student at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business.

Wow. That is some story. Amazing that they found her body, if it had been in a bag? Or just thrown her body away in the trash.

I wonder if the bio mom didn't want to let her ex take their child? So many possibilities here.
