Can you please give us more information from that report?
Multiple helicopters and search-and-rescue volunteers looked for the two over the weekend.
Elyse Johnson, a coworker of Desplinter and Wallace, said the two were hiking with a married couple and working on tackling the
Southern California Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge.
The challenge requires hikers to scale six of 12 mountain peaks in Southern California. Hikers can scale a combination of Mount Wilson, Cucamonga Peak, Mount San Antonio (also known as Mt. Baldy), San Bernardino Peak, Mount San Jacinto, San Gorgonio Peak, Mount Baden-Powell, Ontario Peak, Sitton Peak, Mount Pinos, Strawberry Peak and Santiago Peak.
“They did Mount Wilson the weekend before,” Johnson said. “And that was supposed to be the easiest one.”
“My understanding is they all got halfway, and the other two felt like it was getting too difficult and decided to turn back. Eric and Gabrielle decided to keep going,” Johnson added.
Johnson, Desplinter, Wallace and at least one of the other hikers work together at an engineering design firm.
“I know them pretty well, like I’ve watched Eric’s cat for him when he’s out of town and we’ve done work trips together,” Johnson said. “I’ve also hung out with Gabrielle outside of work.”
Authorities said the two are believed to have a limited amount of food and water.
Desplinter, who deputies say is an experienced hiker, was last seen wearing a yellow jacket and green pants. Wallace wore a gray sweater and jeans.
“Our whole office is extremely worried, but we have faith because Eric has medic training from being in the military,” Johnson said.
“It’s surprising they haven’t been found yet. Eric should know what to do. I remember him mentioning the movie 127 Hours, and saying he’d always let people know where he is so he could be located,” she added.
On Monday, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department asked for additional resources from the California Office of Emergency Services.
Monday’s search for Desplinter and Wallace ended at around 5:30 p.m., according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
While there won’t be any search parties out looking for the missing hikers overnight, a command post will be operational overnight and the search will continue on Tuesday morning.
Sgt. Jeff Alison said search party personnel will be stationed at trailheads to meet anyone walking about during the night.
Anyone who has seen Desplinter or Wallace was asked to call sheriff’s dispatchers at 909-387-8313.
