Border control and the FBI are now assisting the investigation along with homicide investigators.

JC has permissive time-off as explained in the article.

Some other cases are racapped and then much of the same we already know.

Finally someone mentioned Sheep Hole Pass by name in a news article. That was where I was alluding in my earlier posts that they were digging (the searchers) and why the car would be where it was: If he were coming back from burying her out there, then the car was facing in the right direction (rather then having to make a U-turn if coming from JTNP.)

The main business district is about 5 miles south of the base.
wth, everything is south of the base including Joshua Tree and the town of 29 Palms.
Route 40 east/west, and Mojave National Preserve are north. Palm Springs is southwest of base.

All my directions were upside down - have to see if I can correct some posts. No clue what map I looked at before.

I swear to god that they make up those awards that they claim to have. (Not a fan of Z107.7)

Call me a dunce for just realizing this, but they published the same article yesterday. Am I the only one that thought the article came out today?

"Each of the areas we are searching are treated as a crime scene," said sheriff's Capt. Dale Mondary. "We want to be careful and make sure we don't trample over the evidence. We are talking hundreds of miles that we are covering, from basically the Marine Base out through Sheep Hole pass and pretty much just the entire basin."

From your same link Woe. That explains the comments about seeing lots of cops with easy-ups, out off of Amboy Road.

Why out at Sheeps Hole Pass I wonder? I mean it's desolated, no one is likely to see you out there. But is there a pointed reason to be in that area?

MSM indicated yesterday that Erin's car was found on Valle Vista near Ranch Road.

Valle Vista and JTNP are South of the base.

Does anyone have the link to articles where the Water Dept Supervisor confirmed where the car was located? I believe there is audio of this as well. TIA.

My sister insisted we come in that way (66) to her it's the most beautiful place on earth, She loves the desert moving to JT from Whittier some yrs ago. Not a place for me, I'm a MD mountains person.

Yeah I used to be a forest only type camper until I camped in JT many years ago. It really is a whole other world, day or night. Just extraordinary. But outside of that, 29 Palms and Yucca Valley have much to be desired as far being appealing to live. Most I'm sure live out there because they have to and not by choice.

I am so late here, but, someone close to the investigation must have leaked this info to...a radio station?! I wonder why there, of all places. Perhaps someone had a friend or relative there, or they were the only "news source" willing to print a story that painted the victim in an unfavorable light?

I have been thinking about Jon, not only being devastated by Erin's disappearance, but also possibly just finding out about the affair and the baby might not be his. I remember a family member made the comment Erin found out she was pregnant on Father's Day. On one hand, Father's Day is a significant day, to take a pregnancy test and to tell your husband you are pregnant . On the other hand, Father's Day would be a terrible day to take a pregnancy test if you aren't sure your husband is the father. I get the impression Erin would be sentimental , if so, I can't imagine Erin picking Father's Day to take the pregnancy test if she wasn't sure Jon was the Father. So I wonder, where the question of Jon being the baby's Father originated from. Did Erin confide in a friend that the baby might not be Jon's ? Did Erin mention this to the boyfriend who then told investigators ? Were investigators the ones who told Jon about the affair and Jon questions if he is the father ?

I am not sure how long Jon's immediate family will remain quiet about the affair. The general public already has Jon convicted of murdering Erin and the baby. If it were my son, I am not sure I would be able to stop myself from defending him in the MSM and throwing the married marine under the bus.

I don't know if releasing the info would be with the purpose of making Erin look bad/less sympathetic. My thoughts are that this "leak" may bring forward tips from people who knew, or suspected an affair and know the other person alleged to be involved, without actually releasing his name at this point. But jmo.

IMO, finding out your wife is having an affair could be motive. It goes both ways.

I feel like that radio station story has not been deleted from the FB page for a reason.

If she DID take the test on FD and revealed the results to her husband, maybe she had decided she wanted to stay in her marriage and keep the child as their own, without trying to guess the parentage. If she told him, I assume there must have been a chance the baby was his. But then maybe something changed, if she later agreed to meet the other man and things went from bad to worse. (Assuming news of the affair is true, of course.)

The reality of possible years of child support has been a motive behind at least some of the crimes against pregnant women, not to mention the other person's family/spouse finding out, etc...as another poster said, the after effects of an affair can be so much worse than anyone imagined during the early stages of flirtation, etc...jmo

From the Desert Sun Article... if Jon is not restricted to base can one assume he is not a suspect ? Wouldn't NCIS restrict him to base if he were a suspect ?

"Cpl. Corwin is not restricted to the base and has been placed on 'Permissive Temporary Additional Duty,' base spokesman Capt. Justin Smith said. "PTAD orders are issued to military personnel for official time off. The time away from duty is not charged against the military personnel's leave balance."

My heart goes out to Jonathan Corwin, and the wife of the marine Erin was having an affair with. Can you even imagine? The distant friends of the wife are emailing her/facebooking her and saying wow what's this with your marine base? And this poor woman is thinking this whole time oh my god my husband has maybe impregnated and now probably killed this woman. And Erin's family is in knots praying against all odds she is alive, and Jonathan's family is praying for that too and also comforting him in this unbelievably horrible time.

I can't even imagine. The collateral damage here is unfathomable. My mind just keeps going back to the wife of that marine. Maybe she has kids. Unbearable pain.

I am so glad you said this. I think it's often very easy to forget (or ignore) that criminals leave behind MANY victims. Children, parents, friends, spouses... They are left with a great deal of emotional and sometimes financial trauma. Moving on after a loved one had done something so terrible an unexpected is very difficult and there are very few resources out there. Friends and neighbors talk, gossip and distance themselves. I've recently been through this and it is lonely, embarrassing, devastating, painful, infuriating, and overall traumatizing.

I wish nothing but the best for everyone hurt by this.

I don't see why two people would have to be involved in a crime against Erin. In fact, I feel like there was only one. It seems the car was left within a distance that could be walkable back to base, without being too obvious. Jmo

It would make more sense to me if she were somewhere else like that, and JT was just a red herring. However, I'm so curious why LE isn't looking anywhere other than JT!

This is beginning to reek of the McStay case, family of four who were found buried in shallow graves in the desert.
Someone set it up to look as if they drove to the border, parked their car, and walked into Mexico.
This location of Erin's disappearance isn't too far from where the McStays were found - Big Bear wasn't too far away.
I now see Big Bear isn't too far from the Marine base. I'm not suggesting the cases are connected, just that there may be a
purposeful intent for leaving Erin's car where it was found.

Now I'm beginning to wonder if she met a stranger or someone who works on base or even a ranch worker.
Whoever drove the McStay vehicle left it clean as far as we know. Wonder if Erin's car gave any clues for LE to go by.

Call me a dunce for just realizing this, but they published the same article yesterday. Am I the only one that thought the article came out today?

Well isn't that interesting!? Wonder why no one found it yesterday? They didn't double post any of their other stories (that I can tell). I guess they really wanted this info out and since no one picked up on it yesterday, they tried again today!?
