My son always reminds me, "Google is your friend." And so it is.

Here's a video about Bill Garcia's search this weekend. He's searching near Pioneertown (maybe 30-ish minutes west of 29 Palms & near the horse ranch), so he shouldn't be interfering with LE's search. Since these areas, like JTNP, are open to the public, anyone is able to go search. Pioneertown is at the base of an off-road trail leading to Big Bear and, depending on the time CL had available to him, I've always thought this trail would be a reasonable place to search. Bill Garcia states he's going to search a couple different places nearby, which also sound reasonable, but I hope someone gets to that trail at some point.

Also, someone mentioned Bill Garcia in relation to the Amber Dubois case. Here's a couple articles regarding that:

Pioneertown is VERY close to the Ranch.

:notgood: imho

isn't that Bill Garcia the one that was involved , at some point, with Amber Dubois case too?

ugh

Private detective Bill Garcia has earned a reputation for helping find missing children, including 7-year-old Danielle Van Dam, who disappeared from her San Diego-area home in February 2002. Van Dam's body was found, and her neighbor was arrested for her murder.

So it looks like, depending on the case, he's either a huge help or a quack/hinderance. I wonder which he'll be in the EC case?

But if law enforcement and the family don't want him involved why is he inserting himself?

 lol, don't ask me.

Merely supplying information on who Mr. Garcia is.

But if law enforcement and the family don't want him involved why is he inserting himself?

I don't know that he's inserting himself really. He actually sounds like a lot of us - curious about cases - but he has more experience and equipment. If I understand correctly, he's volunteering to do something he usually gets paid for, something that could possibly bring Erin home, and so far he's not doing anything illegal or interfering with LE in any way. I'm certainly not defending him in any way because I never knew he existed before a few minutes ago.

I've been to the area twice since this started, and we looked in a few places we thought were secluded yet close enough to be possible (if CL even knew they existed). We didn't trespass or do anything illegal, so I don't think we did anything wrong. If Bill Garcia does the same, I don't see a problem...so far. It does sound like he tried to speak for Amber's family, so THAT would definitely be inserting himself in my opinion. And if he does it with Erin's case, without the permission of the family, I think he's undoubtedly crossed the line. But if I were the family of a missing person, I would want everyone possible looking and I would be grateful to whomever found my loved one.

But if law enforcement and the family don't want him involved why is he inserting himself?

Did LE or Erin's family say that? LE isn't taking volunteers from the public to join their search, but Bill Garcia's not searching where they are.

Search teams are planning to make a "big push" in the search for missing Marine wife Erin Corwin this weekend, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department and a post on a Facebook page run by the 20-year-old Twentynine Palms woman's family.

"Large numbers of searchers will be out all day Saturday and Sunday as they continue to look for her," a post added to the page around 6:30 a.m. Friday said. "Please pray that the detectives and search teams are searching in the correct areas and that Erin will be found this weekend! Thank you all for your continued support and prayers!"

But if law enforcement and the family don't want him involved why is he inserting himself?

I don't interpret the FB statement from the family as "they don't want him involved", just that the family and LE didn't hire him to help with the search for Erin (i.e., they are not paying him to help -- he is doing it on his own nickel). Sometimes when a case seems to be floundering and LE is obviously struggling with resources/proof/swift resolution/justice for a victim, private investigators start doing their own work, and that is what this guy is doing or trying to do. I may be wrong, but I don't think more people (who aren't under the same restrictions as LE and are therefore more free to pursue whatever leads they feel like may be productive) looking for Erin is a bad thing. Almost. I consider infidelity more significant than an indiscretion. Other than that you pretty much have it.

Your feeling is that infidelity is not enough an iniquity to warrant feelings of resentment that would marr
someone's otherwise compassionate feelings in a case such as this? :dunno:

And the fact that others don't share your view of infidelity, as (I would guess) more of an indiscretion
than an immoral and humiliating act, is the reason why so many murder cases are happening??

Also on Friday, San Diego-based private investigator Bill Garcia traveled to the high desert to independently join the search effort.

He is not working with the sheriff's department, Corwin's family or local authorities, he said.

Garcia said he has reached out to Erin's family via Facebook.

"I haven't heard back," he said.

Garcia came under fire in 2010 when the parents of another missing person, 14-year-old Amber Dubois, accused him of spreading misinformation and speaking for their family without permission.

Garcia said he planned to drive around the Pipes Canyon area and the lower Bighorn Preserve because bodies that have been missing for a long period are often found just off the roadways.

Quoting what the admin at Locate Erin posted; Bill Garcia is not involved in the Sheriff's department's search for Erin and his services have not been requested by Erin's family or investigators.

Is there a reward, maybe thats what he is after?

Thanks, Knox! I wonder if they meant that they prefer he wasn't searching, or if they are just clarifying their lack of connection to him. It will be interesting to see what happens with his search - looks like he enjoys a little publicity so I think we'll know! lol Since families have mixed opinions about him, I'm keeping my mind open at this point and hoping he (or anyone else) will find Erin this weekend!

O/T FYI Garcia did NOT find Danielle van Dam by his wittle ole self....
"The outline for the search effort came from the Laura Recovery Center Foundation, a nonprofit group from Texas that helps find missing children."
snipped http://legacy.utsandiego.com/news/metro/danielle/20020228-9999_1n28searcher.html

more power to him though, Erin needs found, however....

Kind of the way I feel too sres! If he's not going to be in the way of LE and their searches, more power to him. I trust he knows not to touch any evidence and to call LE if he finds something.

i just hope they don't have every (imo) quack in the county/country volunteering to search like they did in Haily Dunn's case, t'was
so fubar'ed

I am still mixed on the who did it... if it was done....I wistfully want to imagine her voluntarily missing:(

Imo it is never a good idea to "join" a case if not asked...or one asks to help and is accepted.

yep Knox, no touchee!! GPS coords/note location & call LE

I hope the searchers look up...in trees too...jic self harmed

While waiting for news of Erin's whereabouts from this weekend's renewed search efforts, I thought I would post this link to MSM source that indicates JC decided on his own not to speak to the public/media about Erin's disappearance. Just something some posters were wondering about several threads back, and some posted they assumed his silence was because his Marine commander ordered him not to talk to the public/media, but this would indicate it was his own choice. Totally understood, his choice, etc., but here is what the article says at the link below:

"Authorities have given no indication Corwin’s husband, Cpl. Jonathan Corwin, is a suspect in her disappearance.

According to the Marine Corps, Jonathan Corwin is spending time with his family and is allowing investigators to do their jobs without disrupting the investigation.

“What I can tell you at this time is that on June 30th, Cpl. Corwin’s command informed him of his right to speak with the media and placed him in a duty status that would give him time off for the next 30 days,” Marine Lt. Col. Stewart Upton said via email. “Media outlets requested to interview Cpl. Corwin via the Public Affairs officer at Marine Corps Base Twenty-Nine Palms, and Cpl. Corwin declined those requests.""

Looking for the silver lining on the cloud, I'm hoping the "big push" search this weekend that the family is advertising on FB (after weeks of no updates) and the Bill Garcia involvement (looking for clues near the Ranch possibly) just starting now, 7 weeks into her disappearance, is because LE is finally ready to make a move after reviewing new data/records/interviews and is trying to "smoke out" the suspects further by acting like they have new info that will eventually lead them to the Erin/the scene of the crime, which I believe they have. Fingers crossed.
